One day Rarity feels like she doesnt want to be a mare anymore so she changes her gender to the utter confusion of the townsponies and her friends

"If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago, I could be flying up there right now. With her, with them, the Wonderbolts. But... would I be better off for it?"

After being expelled from the Wonderbolts Academy, Lightning Dust traveled around Equestria in search of herself. Then, many years later, after a hard day of working she went to a bar and ran into the last pony she ever expected to meet again.

Who is jealous of who, though?

It's hard to adjust to a new life.

That's what they say, anyways. This was not so for Vapor Trail: she adapted easily to life at the academy. That wasn't the problem, though, the only problem others notice is how she adapted: sticking to the sidelines while cheering him on.
