065 The Great Tag Overhaul

Hello everyone, how are you doing on this fine day?

The recently added variety in the story tagging system encouraged me to take a look at my writing. Unsurprisingly, it turned out that some of my stories should get additional tags, some should have them removed, and some swapped for those shiny new ones. Now, I haven't made any changes just yet, so everything what you'll find below the break are rough ideas on how to make use of the new labels, so that the fine denizens of FIMFiction could get precisely what they asked for while searching for stories. If you're getting this message in your feed the chances are you know at least some area of my writing, quite possibly better than I do, which is why I would like to ask you to join me in this tag overhaul. Go below the break, find that story (stories?) you've read, then leave a comment if you feel like the change is indeed warranted, or please suggest another course of action!

On a separate note, would you be interested in me doing one of those Ask Me Anything blogs?

Edge of Reason [Adventure] (no changes)
Conceived, written, and meant to be an [Adventure], much like its two subsequent sequels.

Shadows of Canterlot [Adventure] (no changes)
Check Edge of Reason above.

Arcane Equilibrium [Adventure] (no changes)
Check Edge of Reason above.

Mirrorless [Horror] (previously: [Dark][Adventure]) (overhaul complete)
Wiki defines [Horror] as fiction in which events evoke a feeling of dread and sometimes fear in both the characters and the reader. This story creeps on you slowly, and it was meant to make you feel uncomfortable and lost at its end. You’re not scared? You will be. You will be…

Rumbling Rhymes [Comedy] (previously: [Comedy][Adventure]) (overhaul complete)
Dropping [Adventure], because there’s no grand journey and no great discovery involved. [Comedy] isn’t the best tag here either, something like [Humor] would be better to indicate the theme of this story, but we have to work with what we have.

Batman: Marekham City [Adventure][Crossover] (no changes)
Right tags at the right place.

Twilight and the Art of Fingering [Sex][Equestria Girls][Romance] (previously: [Sex][Alternate Universe][Human][Romance]) (overhaul complete)
Ah, the good old days when we had no idea what to think about the students of CHS. Are they humans? Anthros? Abominations to kill with fire? No, they’re simply [Equestria Girls], and the recent addition of the tag allows me to drop two others. A fine deal, I say!

Duty to the Last [Gore][Dark] (no changes)
Pretty much an attempt at [Gore], so tags are likely to stay.

Reformed 101: Triscord [Comedy][Romance] (no changes)
Cancelled at an early stage, this story barely touched its [Comedy] and [Romance] parts, but it was intended to do it.

Fading Away [Sad][Tragedy] (no changes)
You don’t really know what your story is about until you’re done writing it. Part of me feels [Drama] would be nice here, considering the highly emotional relation between Twilight and Spike presented in the story. At the same time, does it feel like a [Tragedy] to you? I find this tag quite difficult to define, so I’d welcome suggestions regarding changing/not changing the labels here.

Dreamlocked [Adventure][Alternate Universe][Dark] (no changes)
[Thriller], perhaps, to swap out [Dark] which is a bit less descriptive? Could use a second opinion on this one.

Of Lilies and Chestnuts [Slice of Life] (no changes)
You’d gouge my eyes out if I changed it, wouldn’t you?

Cheersalis [Slice of Life] (previously: [Random] [Slice of Life]) (overhaul complete)
Dropping [Random]. I realized that while the idea sparking this story was random, the execution overall, including the portrayal of the characters and lots of interesting tidbits about the changeling culture and customs, is pretty well-reasoned. It's Cheersalis who's random, not Cheersalis itself.

Dreamlocked Chronicles [Adventure][Alternate Universe][Dark] (no changes)
This pretty much hits the same strings as Dreamlocked, so check above for possible changes.

Dune Goddess [Adventure] (no changes)
The definite example of an [Adventure] story.

Expulsion [Drama][Equestria Girls] (previously: [Slice of Life]) (overhaul complete)
Adding [Equestria Girls] for obvious reasons, and swapping [Slice of Life] for [Drama]. There’s a lot of emotion in this story, from Sunset’s talk with Principal Celestia to her meeting with Sonata Dusk, which separates it from your regular [Slice of Life] tales, its sequel included.

Icebreaker [Equestria Girls][Slice of Life] (previously: [Slice of Life]) (overhaul complete)
Also adding [Equestria Girls].

Snowboardling [Slice of Life] (no changes)
Like I said above, [Slice of Life] stories aren’t all equal, and most of them will lean towards some thing else. This one is a really light-hearted one, perhaps even funny at occasions, but since it was not intended to be a [Comedy], I guess the tag stays. Unless someone had a really good time reading it?

Where Fillies Fear to Tread [Adventure] (no changes)
Those who say no adventure takes place in this story are old geezers!

Stage Revival [Slice of Life] (no changes)
Definitely [Slice of Life].

Starlight Glimmer's Shop of Sameness [Slice of Life] (no changes)
Much like around Rumbling Rhymes and Snowboardling, this could use a [Humor] tag. Unless someone feels it’s amusing enough to be warranted a [Comedy] tag?

Arcane Realms [Slice of Life] (no changes)
This one is in a good spot right now.

Tantabound [Slice of Life] (no changes) (overhaul complete, swapped to [Drama] in the end)
It is a likely candidate for a [Drama] tag swapping out [Slice of Life]. Opinions? Think about this, Icebreaker, and Snowboardling. They're all [Slice of Life] at the moment, yet they are very different in theme.

Dichromatic [Drama] (previously: [Slice of Life]) (overhaul complete)
Just like around Expulsion earlier, this story was intended to be more emotive that your average [Slice of Life], which is why I’m swapping [Slice of Life] to [Drama].

The Royal Daughter [Sad][Slice of Life] (no changes)
This one's still too fresh for me to understand it, but I think there's no need to change the tags here.

[Thriller], perhaps, to swap out [Dark] which is a bit less descriptive? Could use a second opinion on this one.

I'd stick with [Dark]. I don't think it quite hits what a story needs to hit for [Thriller].

Thanks, I wasn't really sure about that. I wish the site's FAQ had tag descriptions like in the old days!
