    300 views in three days!

I’m no longer very active on social media, so it’s been a while since I felt the giddy rush of affirmation! :rainbowkiss: But since I posted my most recent story it has gotten over three hundred reads in under three days and a whole lot of comments. So color me dopamine and serotonin flush!

Another year, another story (part deux)

I’m finally finding some more time to write. I was inspired to finish writing this story by Bicyclette’s Sci-fi Contest III, but missed the deadline by 40 minutes (as they say, read the fine print!)

By the way, I began writing this story almost a year ago based on some real life events that many of us share ever since COVID changed how the world meets. I hope you enjoy it!

    Another year, another story

It’s probably not the best thing that I need the motivation of a group activity (Jinglemass) and a multiple-day-off holiday to get me writing again. But this is where I am, and that’s how it is. I Hope you’ve all had a great holiday season so far, and best wishes for a safe, healthy, happy and prosperous New Year!

My experience with Obsolescence's OC Slamjam Contest · 4:23pm Sep 6th, 2015

I can finally reveal what I was up to these past twelve weeks that took all my available writing time. I took part in Obsolescence's (i.e. he moderated the contest) OC Slamjam Competition (click this link to get to the stories). In this contest, writers were asked to submit an Original Character Profile, and then the participants were paired off to each anonymously write a story featuring both of their OCs. The authors were sworn to secrecy for the duration of the contest, as the winner of each round was declared by vote of any interested party, and Obs wanted this to be a writing competition, not a popularity contest. The winners of the round were then paired off for the next round. We started off with 63 authors, which meant totally 6 rounds, or over 12 weeks as each round required a week for submissions and most of a week for voting. In case you were doing the math, yes this means that I managed to make the finals, and take second place! :twilightblush:

So which OC's author was I? There was a lot of speculation and guessing the identities of the authors.

Firefly's Author, at your service!

BTW - My daughter, the mystical, magical Mythee, drew this wonderful picture of Firefly.:heart::heart: The gorgeous colouring was provided by the totally awesome Nevina.

If I managed to go so far, it was in a very large part thanks to my absolutely wonderful editors, Sharp Logic, TotallyNotaBrony, Mythee and Nevina! I also got some assistance in Olde Equish from Aedina and Chatoyance. Enormous thanks to all of you!

Overall This was a great learning experience. It was a tough slog, and I had to put off almost any other writing during the run of the contest, but it truly was worthwhile, and I hope Obs will consider doing this again in the future!

A few words to my fellow authors: man, what a ride! It was an honour to engage many of you head-to-head, and I thank all of you for what you've taught me through your inspiring examples!

Congratulations!
Where can I read those stories?

Hello 3373315 !

You can find them here.

Just look for the stories by "Firefly's Author". It was a real major ride, and I never thought I'd be putting my other writing projects on hold for three months!

It’s taken me a loooong time to comment on this.

If you don’t recall who the hell I am. Say hello to Falcata’s author from the OC slam jam. Better known asveen55 author of the Princess Celestia the Changeling Queen series.

Yeah I know. It’s been two years. Of me mainly being busy with academic work. After re reading the entries though, I Thought I actually tell you in detail that it was wonderful to actually face you off and see what you did with my character even in the semi finals. This was chiefly because before you versus me, every single author I went up against defaulted or got themselves disqualified. As Present Perfect jokes about, Falcata seemed to have an author assassination ability. Needless to say, I wasn’t exactly.... happy at the end of the contest and didn’t take part in further discussions with the other authors because of the constants defaults, despite my best efforts and only had the heart to congratulate you, inform you who I was and wish you good luck.

considering what you did with Firefly and Falcata, and doing justice to her in a way I never was able to, i definitely going to be reading up on your work.

Thanks for the feedback, even after all this time. I’ve also been writing less since the contest, but in my case due to work.
I’m really glad you like what I did with Falcata, but a big part of it is simply due to how well you constructed the character and presented her in your stories. She is my favorite of all the OCs from the contest without a doubt!
There is also enormous scope for great stories exploring her adventures before and after her petrification, relationships with the sisters as well as other show-historical figures, and I so hope you’ll be bringing more of her to FIMfiction!

4697491 Thanks! I'd like to, but i'm working on an original novel at the moment. Perhaps she could come into that novel in some form *shrug*.

Wow, I am envious! Please keep me in the loop on how it’s progressing as I hope to write a novel for publication in the next few years.
