    I'm alive.

I'll continue work on Memories, shortly. Hell, the next chapter's been halfway done for at least a year, now.

In the meantime, you should probably check out the story I'm about to release. While not canon, it is set in the same multiverse as Memories, and you'll most definitely encounter a familiar face. (Not Nix...).

    Tortilla Land Revisited: The Tortillaning

Take Me To Tortilla Land is probably one of the weirdest things I've ever written. It's a gigantic in-joke, a jab at one of my friends and coworkers, and so despite having ~1kish views, it only ever got 20 likes or so. (I like to pretend most people open the story, start to read it, and then quickly close out of their browser as their eye twitches.)

    Mixed Blessings...

I had hoped to keep Memories as close to show canon as I could, mainly using characterizations to fill in the blanks here and there (I've done pretty well with Tia, honestly, considering her continued exuberance over avoiding boring social schmoozing). The major show events would happen offscreen, with Nix otherwise occupied with different things. Yes, Discord's reform is an example.

You probably already guessed it by now, but I figured I should put it into words to make it final.

This post has been a long time in coming. I finally mustered up the courage to post this yesterday, actually, but I didn't think anyone would take me seriously. I know my updates have been terrible. It's been almost a year since the last Memories update. My presence on my blog is almost non-existent these days, I don't hit up the forums and engage with the community like I used to, and

If you're trying to add me on Steam, message me here first.

I denied a few 'random' friend requests before I remembered I had my steam info up on here. So, if you tried to add me and I ignored it, it's probably because I thought you were an Anonymous Chinese Superhacker™ trying to get in close to ninja my account out from under me. I may or may not have imagined myself dodging your imaginary snippets of hack code like I was in the Matrix,

Hell, It's About Time · 2:58pm Feb 7th, 2014

It's shorter than I would have liked, and doesn't have certain elements I was going to use to expand the story and make it epic—those can come next chapter, so long as I put them in there at this point rather than springing them out of nowhere later in the story—but honestly, you all have been waiting long enough. You guys have been awesome to me and deserve something after all this time.

Even if it's mostly just crass sexual humor. (DId I overstep my bounds, there? Lemme know if I made things...too weird. )

But, still, this story is not on hiatus, and I'm not going to leave you all with an unfinished narrative, come Hell or high water. I give you my word, which is the most a poor-ass, blatantly honest bastard like me can afford, anyway.

1806864 But *sniff* it doesn't have any of the world-building I told you would be in it. I mean, I left out a really integral part with Discord and your Eight Bits Bar that's important. And other things that are important. And I'll just have to do them in the next chapter and all you guys get is a paltry 9k words.

9k words. After 3 fucking months. I used to spit out chapters that length after 3-5 days...

Seriously, Aku, I'm really sorry. At the very least, I can hopefully get a laugh out of some of my readers for this.

Dude your grammar and perfect sentence structure is phenomenal, don't feel so bad that you have make us wait - longer. :ajsleepy:

1807451 There's a lot of stories that have near perfect grammar that are boring as all Hell, and just plain bad stories. Like Living In Equestria. Like I always say, just being able to write well isn't the same as being a good storyteller. And one of these days, I might get the "storyteller" part right. :twilightblush:

Honestly, so long as you enjoy the story, that's the best I can hope for. And I still need to get around to downloading some of your stories to my kindle, but long work hours and crap mean I get to read almost nothing, these days. I have about ~600 "Favorite updates" that I can't really get to until they hire more people at my job. But I will.

Honestly, not just in regards to my story, I really do feel like I've fell behind on a lot of things. Hopefully, my job will finally get enough people hired that it can go back to a tolerable meal ticket I simply tolerate in between bouts of periodic freedom.

That, and hopefully bees won't crawl out of my damn ceiling this year. That always sucks.

Bee problem? Yeah, I hear to that, where I use to live, for years we always had bees buzzing in our porch, and we went to see in the vent that was open above the porch, and sure enough a nest was buried there, my dad just shrugged and stuck a foamy in there, and nailed it up with plywood. They all died by winter I believe.

My stories are honestly something you might not enjoy, my issues are pretty much described throughout the comments. Usually it is stated that my grammar is bland, but the story itself is where the 'gold' is. So, I got something right, you however? Nah, you achieved both, so stop beating on yourself.

Your job, really, I mean really, really, really sounds like crap.

1807503 Spring of last year, I noticed a lot of bees flying around my apartment balcony. Now, I'm terrified of the things. If it flies and it has a stinger, I have a phobia of it. Wasps, hornets, bees, you name it. But, I figured, live and let live. I stopped smoking out on my patio, and started taking my smoke breaks in my bathroom with the bathroom vent whirring loudly, accusatorily.

One day, I found a bee buzzing around inside my apartment. Completely terrified—phobia of bees, remember?—I killed it. The next day, I found another one inside. Killed it, too, managed to not hyperventilate. The next day, I found several crawling out of a crack in my ceiling, and pretty much lost my shit. The next two months involved me wrangling with my apartment managers about utterly destroying the goddamn beehive that had grown into my ceiling and into my apartment.

And yes, my job is shit. Knew it when I took it. But I took it because the only paying job that'd ever give me pleasure is one where I can write my stories. This one isn't too bad when there's enough people, honestly. I get to be a night owl, I only get 30 hours a week or so, and as soon as my job is done, I get to go home.

For about the last year, though, we've been shorthanded and I'm unfortunately competent enough to not leave early.

Seriously, Super, unless you've landed the job of your dreams, take my advice: do what's required of you, and no more. Most jobs will just take advantage of your competence, and if you don't enjoy the work, it's not worth it. Better to find a job you enjoy than one that pays better, honestly.

And I'm still gonna read your stories. If your stories are bland, but you get the "story" part right, you're halfway there. I, on the other hand, can usually avoid being bland, but get the story part wrong.

Great stories isn't just great writing, it's also great storytellinging. There's a distinction. You can tell a great story without being the most articulate of writers, and you can wax eloquent greater than Shakespeare and still have a story fall flat. The biggest obstacle to becoming an author isn't whether your grammar is good (although it should be), it's whether your stories are compelling.
