Progress update. · 8:50am Feb 6th, 2013
Chapter 3 is already at 3,600 words, and I'm not even sure I'm halfway through it or not... I said I needed a lot of practice at writing, and one of the biggest things I need to work on is pacing. I'm going to finish this chapter in the next day or two (should probably end up at about 7k-10k words), and then I'll decide if I submit it as one chapter or split it into two. I'd rather leave it intact since the first half is mostly exposition and character building, and I'd prefer my chapters to have a mix of that and moving the narrative along, but we'll see. I'd also like to keep injecting these first few chapters with some modicum of humor, which is difficult as Hell without moving the plot along and while the main character is...indisposed, but I'll do my best to try to make things funny even if the plot requires I avoid referencing memes outside the MLP universe. (I can only make fun of Celestia's love of cake so much, after all...)
At the very least, it should provide some insight into the lore of the story, and an interesting new character that popped up out of nowhere, kinda like Ridge Dancer did when I wrote the first chapter. Seriously, I kinda created her on the fly, and now I can't wait to see how she plays into the larger story I've got in my brain and how she develops.
I'm pretty drunk and just procrastinating writing the rest of the chapter with this post. Since only about 3 people will ever see this, I feel no shame at all.
Really just wanted a reminder up that I'm not quitting this story even if it's unpopular, only succinctness isn't my forte so you get this word-vomit-explosion of a blog post. I blame the drunkenness. Hope you like the next chapter I'm writing, it'll be fairly large! Ish.
