Finally took the dive. · 5:42pm Feb 3rd, 2013
I've had a story idea rustling about in my head for, oh, the last decade or so. Originally, it was supposed to be a comic book, but as it turns out, when it comes to drawing things, I'm so paranoid about quality that I never actually, uh, draw things. I haven't drawn something for years. (The picture I've used for my one submission here is actually one of the last things I drew, and I never even finished it.) When it comes to writing, that paranoia doesn't exist. I realized a while ago that the ending to the story in my head allowed for a crossover with Equestria, so I figured, why not? I had a story with a bunch of characters knocking around in my noggin, demanding my attention, yet I hadn't given them the time of day. Why not write out a bit of fanfiction? (I only started reading the fanfic a few months ago, by the way.) Assessing my deep knowledge of the fandom, as I have my fingers on the pulse of the community, and to assure my success, I immediately settled upon a HiE, overpowered OC protagonist fic. Everyone will love that!
Actually I knew it would bomb. I've only submitted one chapter and its dislike to like ratio is over 9000. It's still going to bomb. This is a story that will probably never be featured. I could always write well, but I don't recall ever spinning a yarn more entertaining than most of the stuff this community puts out.
But, I'm going to write it anyway. Nix's story is one that starts a very, very long time before he ever hits Equestria, but it's one that ends with Equestria. And who knows? Maybe, with enough practice, I can finally spend my life doing something I enjoy--writing--and taking this first small step might give me something other to do than going to work, going home, getting drunk while I uselessly browse the internet, passing out, rinse-and-repeat, day after day.
Probably not, in all likelihood. But Nix, Odin, Lucy, Loki, and who knows how many other characters have been railing in my head for some modicum of a voice, some tangible expression in reality, for over a decade. I figure I should at least give them something for distracting me from my boring life, right?
But, I'm drunk, and I still have half a chapter to write. Even if most everyone dislikes the story, it's still nice to know that others don't, right?
Like jumping off a cliff with a parachute that only has a 50% chance of functioning. You don't know until you truthfully try for once.
That, and the fridge with all my beer is at the bottom, and climbing down mountains is hard as fuck when you can just jump. BRB beer, I'll have a story update when it's ready.
