A story of Twilight's and Fluttershy's love for each other and a small orange Pegasus pony
The events of the story take's place at the end of "Shadow play- part two"
At first Twilight dismissed her feelings for Fluttershy as just a really strong friendship, but after she realises that if the plan hadn't worked she would have lost Fluttershy forever and she soon begins to be by her side day and night but how can she tell the timid Pegasus pony that she.... Loves her
The Princess of friendship lay on her bed reading a book she had never thought she would need, it was a book about the way a pony feels when they fall in love. At first the purple Alicorn had thought that her strong feelings for Fluttershy were because of the Strong friendship they had. However over time she had found her self wanting to be alone with Fluttershy more and more, up to the point where she had embarrassed herself when they were alone in the castle after Fluttershy had asked Twilight if she could borrow a book, Twilight had replied "Of course you can Flutterbug" which caused both Twilight and Fluttershy to Blush and avoid each other for the rest of the day.
A month on from this incident Twilight had decided to read up on feelings and had discovered very little, until tonight that is. The book listed several things that pony's felt when in love they included; wanting to be alone with the mare or stallion they loved, wanting to look after them when they fall ill (As Twilight had when Fluttershy had sprained her wing once) and wanting to protect them form harm no matter what. This is what had made Twilight realise she was truly in love with Fluttershy when Twilight had Jumped in to the pony of Shadows to save Stygian it hadn't been for Equestria, but to protect Fluttershy from harm. With out realising it Twilight had got out of bed and started to pace her room Wondering aloud , just how she was going to tell fluttershy of her feelings. "oh what if she Rejects me?" she whimpered to herself, "what if fluttershy doesn't love me" she was about start a mini rant when she heard somepony gasp outside her door. she froze for what felt like hours to her even though it had only been a minute, once she unfroze she wrenched the door open with her magic to find Starlight about to knock on her door. at the site of Twilight she recoiled into a ball and began to cry.
"Please don't hate me Twilight, i didn't mean to over hear you i was only coming to check if you were alright i could hear you pacing from my room!" Starlight let out before letting her sobbing get the better of her. suddenly she felt soft Pegasus feathers wrap themselves around her and opened her eyes to see Twilight embracing her with a worried and caring look on her face. They got up in silence and twilight lead starlight to her bed where she embraced again before speaking.
"Starlight why would i hate you for something you accidentally overheard?" Twilight asked her amazing student, however she did not wait for a reply and went on to say "i could never hate you starlight glimmer no matter what, now you get some sleep you'll need to set off early if you want to get to Canterlot before noon" she finished giving Starlight one last hug before tucking her into her bed and leaving her room owing to the fact that she herself was now wide awake and decided to go out for an early morning flight which she rarely did. She decided she would go to the Everfree Forest to read some of the old books in the castle of the two sisters.
On the way to the castle she spotted the last pony she wanted to see with her current emotions... Fluttershy! When Twilight spotted her she Dived into the nearest tree to avoid be spotted by her crush, who was walking underneath the canopy talking to the one animal Twilight was petrified of... Snakes! She seemed to be talking to them about somepony.
"Oh how do i tell her i love her serpentina?" Fluttershy asked the grass snake slithering along side her to which the reply was two short meaningful hisses. Fluttershy just looked on with a sad smile. "your right i do need to tell her... and soon" she said after a short pause of what Twilight could only call awkward silence. Twilight had decided that now was better than never to tell Fluttershy her feelings, however as she took flight her mind made a split second decision and decided against it, snapping her wings shut in midair, the last thing she thought before she was blacked out was 'oh Celestia, don't let Fluttershy see!'
When she woke she was in an unfamiliar room and could feel something tickling the back of her neck, as her eyes began to focus she looked over to find that it was Fluttershy's shallow breathing, she looked like she hadn't stopped crying until she had fell asleep. Twilight felt terrible she had upset her friend all because she had backed out of saying three little words 'i love you' she thought in her mind, so why was it so hard to say out loud, However she was soon brought out of her reverie when she suddenly heard the timid Pegasus do something Twilight had thought impossible, she had purred like a little kitten. As Twilight was looking round to find out the source of Fluttershy's sudden purring she brushed her wing over Fluttershy's flank eliciting another purr from the Pegasus pony 'Oh my goodness, did i just do what i think i did' her mind began to panic , a thousand scenarios flashing through her mind all of which involved losing Fluttershy as a friend. Slowly the lavender unicorn began to sob and shake into her pillow as she realized just how close she had came to losing Her crush forever... Again. She was about to start a fresh bout of tears when a soft yellow wing wrapped around her barrel and she heard Fluttershy whisper soothingly into her ear
"Ssh, it's okay Twilight i'm here for and i will never leave you... ever" Fluttershy cooed, she smiled warmly as Twilight stopped sobbing and fell asleep in the embrace of her secret crush. Fluttershy smiled warmly at the sleeping Princess cuddled into her and there lied her problem. If it had been hard to tell Twilight of her feelings for her before she became an Alicorn, it was now next to impossible.
A single lone tear escaped her eye as she leaned down and gave Twilight a gentle kiss before falling into a dreamless sleep completely unaware that the Alicorns smile had grown ever so slightly after the kiss
When Twilight woke early next morning she tried to get up but found she was impeded by yellow hooves, as she turned over she saw that Fluttershy had fallen asleep exactly how she had been while awake, embracing Twilight. she blushed when she realized just how close she was to Fluttershy, she could feel the timid Pegasus pony's breath tickling her face. she knew she had to wake Fluttershy up but didn't want to disturb the sleeping Mare. However she didn't have to wait long before the rays of Celestia's sun woke Fluttershy up instead.
"Oh good morning Twilight, i hope you slept well" she said as she got out of the bed as if she hadn't just being cuddling Twilight at all. She walked into the bathroom, leaving a confused Twilight to wonder if Fluttershy had actually realized she had been cuddling her at all.
"Oh, Celestia what did i wake up to!?" Fluttershy asked herself in the mirror, a lone tear escaping her cyan eyes "She probably hates me now, me and my stupid crush on her" she continued before she decided to brush her teeth and go talk to Twilight, however when she opened the bathroom door Twilight was gone! "Twilight!" She shouted down the stairs, hoping to hear her friends voice.
"I'm down here Fluttershy!" Twilight replied, she had forgotten how sensitive Fluttershy was, she probably thought Twilight had left without saying goodbye. she trotted half way up the stairs before a yellow blur knocked her back down them and landed on top of her, pining her to the floor before suddenly being wrapped in warm, soft yellow feathers.
"Oh Twilight, i thought you had left without saying good bye!" She began to cry into the lavender alicorn's mane, shaking with relief and fear, fear of losing the pony she loved most. "Please don't scare me like that again" Fluttershy whispered into Twilight's ear, sending a shiver down Twilight's spine.
"I'm sorry Fluttershy, i didn't mean to scare you i just wanted to cook you breakfast" She replied softly, stroking Fluttershy's pink mane, her cheeks beginning to burn as her blush grew from such close contact with her crush. she was about to ask Fluttershy to get up when she realized that she had let her hoof slip over Fluttershy's cutie mark. Both she and Fluttershy let out small 'eeps' of shock before settling back down though Twilight found it hard to keep stroking Fluttershy's mane for fear of the earlier incident. "Umm, Fluttershy can i get up now?" Twilight asked as Fluttershy tried to get more comfortable and fall back asleep.
"Oh, yeah sorry Twilight!" Fluttershy said as she began to get up and blush, suddenly a small smirk lit up the Yellow Pegasus pony's face before disappearing as quickly as it had came. "You know you make a really comfortable pillow Twilight" Fluttershy managed to say before bursting into giggles, Twilight despite now blushing furiously manged to giggle as well.
"Come on, i had just finished making breakfast before you shouted, hope you like it" Twilight said as she used her magic to levitate a plate with pancakes on it, out of the kitchen and over to the two friends. Fluttershy smiled at Twilight as they began to eat breakfast in companionable silence.
"Well i should get back to the castle, Spike must be worried about were i am am." Twilight sighed as she finished drying the plate they had used for the pancakes, she walked over to Fluttershy and without really thinking embraced her in her wing and whispered "Thanks Flutters" before she walked to the front door and teleported back to the castle of Friendship.
"Your welcome" Fluttershy whispered to the place Twilight had been stood moments earlier.
Back at the Castle Twilight was staring in disbelief at the state of the throne room it looked like Spike had a party while she was away. She caught sight of her number-one assistants tail disappearing through the door to the kitchen "Spike what's with this mess!" she shouted after him, though she knew full well he wouldn't answer her she was about to chase him down and find out what exactly had happened when a knock on the front door distracted her "huh, i wonder who could that be" she mused to herself as she trotted out of the throne room and towards the door. When she opened the door she was surprised to see Princess Luna on the other side. "Princess, what are you doing here!?" Twilight exclaimed as she bowed.
"Please Twilight there is no such need of formality among friends, just call me Luna" Luna replied nuzzling Twilight gently on the cheek "And i am here to help with your Pegasus problem, if you get what i mean" Luna continued giggling at Twilight's shocked face
"wait how do you know i like Fluttershy!" Twilight began to panic, had she made it that obvious to everypony. If Rainbow found out and didn't accept Twilight for being a fillyfooler, well it was the sort of thing that didn't bear thinking about. However Twilight soon found herself embraced in midnight blue wings.
"Dearest Twilight, i know you love Fluttershy because she is all you ever dream about" Luna told the younger Alicorn immediately soothing her nerves, though she still looked very worried about something though the moon goddess could not quite tell what.
"How do i tell her, i mean if i can't even talk to her without freezing up then how will i ever tell her!?" Twilight asked as she began to silently sob into the older Alicorn's wings. Suddenly an idea formed in her head "Luna, could you make the stars say i love you tonight?" Twilight asked as she looked into Luna's eyes
"Of course Twilight, perhaps you should go ask Fluttershy to join you in stargazing now" Luna said as she smiled and her horn began to glow and the stars slowly started to move.
Twilight stood up and began to focus her magic, her horn slowly brightening with each passing moment before she finally disappeared with a loud pop. Reappearing just outside of Fluttershy's Cottage with another loud pop. Twilight took a few moments to re orientate herself before she walked up to Fluttershy's door and knocked three times
After a few minutes silence the door slowly opened to reveal a rather tired looking Fluttershy. "Oh..Twilight what are yo doing here so late?" Fluttershy asked as she opened the door for her friend to come in. "Nothing bad has happened has it!?" Fluttershy quickly asked.
Twilight Smiled at the butter yellow Pegasus pony's typical reaction to friends turning up unexpected. "Actually Fluttershy, i was wondering if you would like to come stargazing with me in the park?" Twilight asked with a hopeful smile.
"That sounds lovely Twilight, of course i'll come stargazing with you!" Fluttershy exclaimed excitedly as she rushed to get her scarf.
Twilight and Fluttershy walked to the park in companionable silence allowing the night air to relax both heart and mind. When they finally reached the hill Twilight had said was perfect for stargazing, they found a picnic blanket laid out on the ground with enough food for both ponies. Twilight made a mental note to thank Princess Luna for her help tonight. "Well it will be a few more minutes before we can actually see all the stars so shall we have something to eat?" Twilight asked nervously.
"Um, yes... i am a little hungry anyway" Fluttershy replied before her stomach growled and she blushed "OK... maybe i'm more than a little hungry she giggled as she began eating a lettuce sandwich, Twilight giggled softly at Fluttershy before starting on her own sandwich. As time went by the two ponies found themselves shuffling closer and closer to each other until Fluttershy was snuggled right up against Twilight.
"Fluttershy look up and tell me what do those star's say?" Twilight asked her friend in a gentle voice barley more than a whisper, looking up and smiling herself at what she could see.
If Fluttershy thought the request was odd she did not show it as she looked up and read out loud "I love you!" Fluttershy couldn't believe it she didn't dare upon her eyes, surely this was a dream.
"Fluttershy...i love you" Twilight whispered into her ear, before lifting Fluttershy's head with a hoof and kissing her dream mare on the lips. The kiss only lasted a couple of seconds but to Fluttershy it felt like an eternity before they broke apart smiling.
"I love you too Twilight" Fluttershy said in an almost normal voice, hugging the lavender alicorn with hooves and wings. after a few minutes of silence Fluttershy broke the night silence, with a question that made both ponies blush lightly "Um... Twilight i'm awfully tired, could i sleep at the castle tonight, please?" the timid Pegasus pony asked her marefriend.
"Of course FlutterBug... would you like to share a bed with me?" Twilight asked the last part coming out as a quiet whisper, the question making both pony's cheeks an even brighter shade of red
"Um... yes please" Was all she manged before she suddenly fainted from the excitement
"Fluttershy!" Twilight exclaimed as she used her magic to stop her from hitting the ground. When Twilight leaned down to see if she was still breathing, she heard small snores confirming what she had expected, the usually timid Fluttershy had fainted from over excitement "Oh, bless her, well at least i know i'm the reason she's so happy" Twilight said to herself as she levitated Fluttershy onto her back and took flight back to the castle. Once Twilight arrived on her bedroom balcony she gently nuzzled Fluttershy awake.
"Huh... what happened the last thing i remember is saying yes to sharing a bed?" Fluttershy asked Twilight her cheek's beginning to glow at the end of her sentence.
"You fainted from excitement, silly filly" Twilight playfully giggled into Fluttershy's ear before leading Fluttershy to her bed and settling herself down on it, lifting a wing up so Fluttershy could snuggle right up against her. Once both ponies were settled Twilight used her magic to extinguish the single candle that had been lit for when twilight returned by her number one assistant.
"Goodnight Fluttershy" Twilight said once she finally felt sleep overcoming her.
"Goodnight Sparky" Fluttershy giggled as she kissed Twilight on the lips, before resting her head against Twilight's chest and allowing the beat of her Marefriend's heart to gently lull her to sleep.
Unknown to the new couple both Spike and Princess Luna had been watching through the keyhole, and were both wearing pleased smiles. "Well i think my work here is done" Luna proudly claimed as she stood to her full height and spread her wings ready for flight "Oh, and thank you for the tea spike, you really are Twilight's number one assistant" She continued bowing down slightly to give spike a quick nuzzle of thanks.
"Aw... Shucks it was nothing Princess Luna" he replied blushing lightly at the praise.
"Please Spike just call me Luna, we are friend's after all and goodnight" Luna said as she took flight and silently flew out of the window and turned in the direction of Canterlot castle
"Goodnight Luna" Spike said as he closed the window and went to his room to sleep before he ended up curled up outside Twilight's door again, he really didn't want her to think he'd been spying even though he had.
The next morning Spike was woke up to the sound of his big sister calling his name from downstairs.
"SPIKE WAKE UP PLEASE!" Twilight shouted up the stairs knowing he would complain if she let him sleep in again, he might have liked sleep but he enjoyed work more.
"Coming sis!" He replied jovially as he waddled down the stairs and gave her a hug
Twilight giggled at the sudden display of affection but returned the hug with just as much enthusiasm as Spike "I see somepony woke up on the right side of the bed this morning" she chuckled as she finally broke the hug "come on Spike, i have a surprise for you!" she continued as she began to half walk, half skip to the dinning room.
Spike chuckled softly to himself as he followed after his big sister, as he came into the kitchen his eyes were greeted by a mound of gem pancakes and a delighted Fluttershy who quickly came over to him still wearing her cooking apron and give him a quick nuzzle. "Good morning Spike" She cooed in a sing song voice as she led him over to the table.
"Good morning Fluttershy, you didn't make these just for me did you!?" he asked her excitedly as he hopped up onto his chair while Fluttershy pushed the gem pancakes towards him.
"Yes i did Spike, i just wanted to do something nice for everypony today so i cooked everypony some pancakes" she replied as she walked into the kitchen and brought two plates of regular pancakes back to the table for her and Twilight.
Half way through breakfast Spike noticed how close Twilight and Fluttershy were sitting each other and decided to get the confession out of them now rather than try to hide the fact he already knew.
"Say, you two are sitting awfully close this morning is there something you want to tell me?" he asked in his most innocent voice.
"Well Spike you see..." Twilight started but soon faltered too scared to tell him, after all she was the element of magic not honesty however Fluttershy had no problem in telling Spike the truth.
"Twilight and i are dating now Spike" she told him as she wrapped a wing around Twilight and gave her a light peck on the cheek, her own turning slightly red afterwards.
"Oh my gosh that is so amazing you two are perfect for each other!" he exclaimed as he jumped up on the table and pattered across it to give both mares a big hug, which they gratefully returned "You two need to tell the girls" he continued in a slightly more serious tone.
"We know Spike that's why we invited the girls over for the morning" Twilight said as she gave him a quick nuzzle before taking hold of the dirty plates in her magic and taking them into the kitchen.
"Um... Spike is something wrong?" Fluttershy asked the dragon once they were alone. "You usually get excited when you find out Rarity is coming over" She continued when he didn't answer.
"Yeah i'm fine, it's just i have a crush on somepony else now" he smiled sheepishly as his memory wandered to the time he spent last night with Luna.
Fluttershy smiled back at Spike before softly whispering "Has somepony fallen in love with the night?" into his ear.
"What no, i haven't fallen in love with Luna!" he exclaimed a little to quickly to be true, his bright red cheeks did nothing to help his case either nor the fact Twilight had just walked back in to the room and had heard what her marefriend had said to the young drake.
"oh Spike that is so adorable!" She exclaimed as she gave him a quick hug as brother and sister embraced Fluttershy had a stroke of genius.
"Say Twilight why don't you ask Luna if she needs somepony to help her for a few nights, i'm sure Spike wouldn't mind helping" She said though she could not refrain from giggling at the last part of the sentence.
"That's a wonderful idea Flutters, i'll send a letter later, right now though we should go to the throne room to wait for the girls" She said as she walked over to Fluttershy and combined here tail with hers and placing a wing over Fluttershy's back.
As the the Two ponies left the young dragon to his thoughts, they realized that there was a commotion going on in the throne room.
"Sounds like the girls are already here" Twilight giggled as she heard the distinct southern accent of Applejack
"Ah told ya sugarcube, if you wouldn't get outta ma tree i'd buck you out of it!" She shouted to the cyan Pegasus who was currently hovering inches away from the ceiling.
"Yeah well i didn't think you were being serious!" Retorted Rainbow Dash as she flew down towards her throne and landed next to it with a small sigh "Look lets just forget about it OK, and sorry for yelling at you" She continued as she sat in her throne and rested her head on the Cutie Map.
"I,well, ah..." Applejack began to stutter Before a double death glare from Pinkie Pie and Rarity told her exactly what to say. "Apology accepted sugarcube and your right lets just leave the incident in the past." AJ said as she smiled warmly at Rainbow who had perked up slightly after her apology had been accepted.
After which everypony settled down into a comfortable silence, which was soon shattered by Twilight and Fluttershy walking into the throne room, Twilight's wing still draped over Fluttershy and their tails still entwined.
Almost as one Rarity, Applejack and Pinkie Pie exclaimed "Who asked who!" then stared at Rainbow who had suddenly taken on a thoughtful look.
"I reckon it was Twilight, i was stargazing last night when i saw the stars form the words 'I love you', over the park hills" Rainbow stated with a serene expression on her face.
"Yes it was Twilight who asked me Rainbow" Fluttershy confirmed for the rest of the girls before continuing "but how did you all know we had become smitten?" She asked curiously gazing over her four friends.
"Well darling it was more of an assumption than definitive knowledge, but pinkie sense is never wrong" Rarity said smiling at the pink party pony who was currently hovering off the ground with all the excitement.
"Should have know i couldn't fall in love without pinkie sense finding out!" Twilight exclaimed dramatically before bursting into giggles along with everypony else.
"well i'm guessing the reason you invited us over was ta announce the relationship to us Twi?" Applejack asked once she could breathe properly again, Sitting up in her throne her eyes automatically gazing to the image of Sweet Apple Acres.
"Yes Applejack it was if you girls are busy don't let us stop you from going" Twilight replied giving Applejack a knowing look that said it all for the apple farmer, but before she could say anything more Rainbow Dash was up and by her side.
"Climb on my back AJ, i'll fly you back to the farm that way you won't have to make up for the lost time from walking back" Rainbow said as she flexed her wings so they were ready to take off, even with the extra weight.
"Are you sure Sugarcube?" Applejack asked, her cheeks taking on a light hue of crimson
"Of course i'm sure" Rainbow replied though if a pony looked close enough they would be able to spot the smallest tinge of red on her cheeks.
"Alright Sugarcube, lets get going" Applejack said as she trotted over to Rainbow Dash and gently climbed on her back without getting in the way of her wings. once Applejack was on her back and Dash herself had adjusted to the extra weight she took off from the floor and flew straight out the open door, with Applejack giving off a big shout of excitement as they took off in the direction of the front door of the castle and Sweet Apple Acres.
It had been Five minutes since Rainbow Dash and Applejack had left but everypony was still in stunned silence, Twilight and Fluttershy for one reason, Rarity and Pinkie pie for another.
"wow girls, do you realize Applejack just accepted help, from Dashie no less!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed as she randomly started to cartwheel around the Cutie map before pulling a cupcake out of her mane and scoffing it whole before finally bouncing to a stop in her original next to Rarity, though she seemed to be ever so slightly closer to Rarity.
"Um, that's not why were shocked Pinkie" Fluttershy said a small blush beginning to creep its way on to her cheeks as she continued explaining why she and Twilight were shocked. "You see Pinkie in Pegasus culture, to allow another pony to climb on your back and fly is a very, very intimate thing, usually only done by very special someponys" Fluttershy finished before burying her head into Twilight's mane out of embarrassment.
"Well darlings if Rainbow Dash and Applejack are dating we must simply wait for them to tell us, and if Rainbow is doing it to show Applejack how much she cares about her, she is doing a fine job if you ask me" Rarity said with a proud smile on her face before turning to the now silent Pinkie Pie and adding "Now we must be going dears i promised Pinkie i would help her bake cakes for the filly's and colts at the hospital" when she was finished she and pinkie exchanged silent goodbyes with Twilight and Fluttershy before they too left.
"Twilight is it OK if we lie together and read in bed for a little?" Fluttershy asked Twilight, once she was sure Rarity and Pinkie Pie were out of ear shot, giving Twilight a gentle kiss on the tip of her horn.
"Of course we can Flutterbug, well if you can catch me!" Twilight replied gently kissing Fluttershy on the lips before galloping off in the direction of her bedroom.
"Oh it is on Sparky!" Fluttershy actually shouted, which was such an achievement that Twilight had almost stopped to give her marefriend another kiss, but before she could recover she had been tackled to the ground by Fluttershy who was now laid on top of her, her legs tucked underneath herself like a cat. "Got you!" She exclaimed proudly before giving Twilight a kiss and laying her head down onto Twilight's chest. "You know maybe i'll just stay curled up here, on my comfy lavender pillow" Fluttershy said getting into a comfier position
"Well don't get too comfy Flutterbug, cause i want to go for a walk in white tail woods with you while the sun is still up, we can read later" Twilight purred into Fluttershy's ear, while gently stroking her mane with her free hoof. "Because i know where to find a water fall where all the animals go to drink!" Twilight continued building up her tone in excitement. Twilight smiled as the gears in her Marefriend's head began to turn and Fluttershy's smile began to grow.
Suddenly Fluttershy jumped up off of Twilight and began to fly around her in a circle saying "My Marefriend is taking me to see my second-favorite thing in the whole of Equestria!" In a sing song voice as she settled down a little she land next to Twilight who immediately draped her wing over Fluttershy.
"Come on if we set off now, we'll get there just as the animals arrive for their morning drink!" Twilight said as she led Fluttershy up to the bedroom balcony. "Before we go i have too know, you said animals were your second favorite thing in Equestria, i thought they were your favorite outright, what changed?" Twilight asked cocking her head quizzically.
"They were, until you came into my life!" Fluttershy replied kissing Twilight on the lips before taking flight with Twilight taking off seconds after her. As they happily chased each other across the morning sky towards whitetail woods, not knowing that there was a little Pegasus filly sat at the waterfall crying or that the filly would change their relationship and their life forever.
An hour later Twilight and Fluttershy were walking towards the waterfall when they heard a little filly crying which didn't faze them as much as when they saw who the filly crying was "Scootaloo what's wrong!?" Twilight and Fluttershy asked in unison as they both rushed towards her and each wrapped a wing around her.
"No pony loves me!" Scootaloo Manged to say before breaking down into more tears, snuggling into Mares wings. once she calmed down slightly Scootaloo knew she would have to explain what she mean't "Before you guys say it i know all my friends love me but i mean love as in loving your daughter, i live at the orphanage on the outskirts of Ponyville, and all the other orphans bully me and the staff don't do anything, heck i have been missing since yesterday but the staff don't care about me enough to come looking for me."
After exchanging a silent look of knowing with Fluttershy, Twilight stood up and used her magic to place Scootaloo on her back "You can stay at the Castle with me, Fluttershy and Spike tonight" she said as she used her wings to form a protective blanket around Scootaloo. Once Scootaloo was safely wrapped up on Twilight's back, Fluttershy stood up and lightly kissed the Pegasus filly on the forehead.
As Scootaloo felt sleep slowly begin to overtake she whispered gently "Thank you Mommy's" before her eyes finally shut and she began to snore quietly into the back of Twilight's neck.
Even though she had whispered it both Fluttershy and Twilight had heard what Scootaloo said "Twilight when we get back to the castle i think you, me and Spike need to have a talk" Fluttershy whispered not wanting to wake the sleepy Pegasus on her Marefriends back
"Agreed" Twilight whispered back before teleporting them back to the castle
Once the three ponies where safely back at the castle of friendship, Twilight went straight up to their bedroom to put Scootaloo in bed, while Fluttershy went to find Spike and explain what was happening. As Twilight tucked Scootaloo up she gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead and whispered soothingly "Sweet Dreams sweetheart"
As Twilight trotted back down to the throne room she heard Fluttershy and Spike talking. "I'm completely fine with that Fluttershy, i'll go get Rainbow dash and Applejack so they can help me decorate the spare bedroom just across the corridor from yours!" She hear him say before he pattered out of the throne room and headed to the front door.
"I take it you want to adopt her Fluttershy?" Twilight said as she hugged her marefriend before sitting in her throne, giving her a gentle but none the less serious look. "You know looking after a filly is completely different than looking after an animal right Flutters" she continued gently.
"I know Twilight and yes i wan't to adopt her" Fluttershy replied kissing Twilight on the lips "I want to give Scootaloo the life she deserves, and i want you to help me do it please!" Fluttershy continued in a pleading tone gave Twilight the largest, saddest puppy eyes she had ever seen anypony do.
"Alright Flutters, we'll take her to the orphanage to adopt her tomorrow, right now she needs rest and a nice warm meal when she wakes up" Twilight said as she hugged Fluttershy tightly "Scootaloo's really lucky to have such a caring mother" Twilight whispered into Fluttershy's ear.
"You mean Mothers" Fluttershy whispered back, before breaking the embrace and intertwining their tails "Come on lets check on our daughter" she said as Twilight happily let Fluttershy lead the way to their Bedroom to check on Scootaloo.
Unnoticed by the Happy couple their four friends and a little dragon had all been watching from the side door. "Aww, that was so cute!" Rainbow dash quietly exclaimed.
"It sure was Sugarcube, though i wish you would give more warning before you somehow jump us from the park to here pinkie!" Applejack said as she dusted off her stetson. " How do you do that anyway?" Applejack asked with a curious glance at the pink party pony
"I can't tell you Applejack, that knowledge is strictly between me and Lovingshield16" Pinkie Pie Replied to Applejack
"Who the hay is Lovingshield16!?" Applejack and Rainbow Dash asked in unison, both confused
"The Author of this story" Replied an now bouncing Pinkie Pie
"Yeah well lets just end that conversation there and go and decorate Scootaloo's new bedroom" Spike butt in before everypony got even more confused than what they were now.
"Quite right Spike dear" Rarity replied as she began trotting towards Scootaloo's new bedroom. While Spike and the others started decorating the bedroom, Twilight and Fluttershy wen't to check on Scootaloo.
As they approached the door to their bedroom, they could hear small hoof steps, pacing back and forth. However they came to an abrupt stop when Twilight and Fluttershy entered. "Scootaloo we have some good news for you!" Fluttershy cooed excitedly.
"Come on Fluttershy, i know your taking me back to the orphanage, don't try to soften the blow."
Fluttershy for once was not fazed and continued "Well yes, but we need you there if were going to adopt you,you silly filly!" she continued as she and Twilight walked over to the bed and both patted the spot between their out stretched wings.
It took a few moments for Fluttershy's words to sink in before Scootaloo tackled them both onto their backs shouting "I finally got a family!" Between sobs of joy, Twilight and Fluttershy just smiled and embraced their new daughter with their wings.
As Scootaloo got settled down next to Fluttershy she decided that she would write a letter to princess Celestia. "Um Mummy, can i write a letter to the Princess pwease?" Scootaloo asked in a cute, irresistible high pitched voice.
"Of course you can darling" Twilight chuckled softly as she levitated a piece of parchment of and a special self correcting ink bottle over to Scootaloo before passing a very, very special quill to Scootaloo, a quill made from one of her mummy's own feathers.
As Scootaloo began writing her letter to the Princess there was a knock on the door. "Come in!" Fluttershy's voice peacefully sighed through the door. As the door opened a pleased looking Spike walked in and gestured for Twilight to come over so he could tell her something.
"Don't ask me how, but the girls have finished Scootaloo's room already!" He whispered excitedly into her ear.
"That's great news Spike, Once she's finished writing that letter could you send it to Celestia please!" Twilight whispered back just as excitedly.
"Sure thing Twi" he replied ending their hushed conversation, and right on time too.
"Finished Mummy!" Scootaloo shouted in triumph, Frightening Fluttershy awake, who had been dozing off with her daughter snuggled into her side. "Sorry Mommy" Scootaloo added in a softer tone, kissing her mommy on the cheek.
"That's OK dear" Fluttershy Replied as she nuzzled Scootaloo lovingly along her back.
"Come on Scootaloo we have another surprise for you" Twilight said as Spike picked up the discarded letter and sent it to Celestia as Scootaloo and her Parents began walking across the corridor and into the room opposite the last thing Scootaloo had been expecting was for all of her Mummy's friends to be stood in a room filled with Wonderbolt Memorabilia and bed spread, at first she thought Rainbow Dash would be living with them but then it clicked, the bed was filly sized, this wasn't Rainbow Dash's room, it was hers!
"Do you like your new room darling" Rarity asked as she smiled at the awe struck little filly.
"I love it, thank you so much Everypony" Scootaloo replied as she gave a hug to each pony and Spike when he came back in the room.
"Hey mommy, can we go to the park, i kinda wan't to get some fresh air" Scootaloo asked shyly peeking out from under Fluttershy's wing ,which she had hidden under when Rarity had commented on how cute Scootaloo was being, to look at her mum's face.
"Of course we can sweet heart" Fluttershy smiled as Scootaloo's wings began to buzz with excitement.
"Well i think that's our Que to leave darlings" Rarity said as she intertwined her tail with Pinkie Pies, much to everyponys surprise, just as Twilight was about to ask how it happened Rarity stopped her by saying "It is a story for another time darling, now we must be going" after which she and pinkie gave everypony hugs before leaving.
"ah reckon we ought ta get going too Surgarcube" Applejack said to Rainbow Dash who proceeded to wrap her wing around AJ protectively.
"i reckon ya right Jackie" Rainbow Dash replied in a pretend country accent "do ya want ta walk or fly?" she continued as she gave her a light peck on the cheek
AJ's eyes light up with excitement as she gave her one word reply "Fly!" and with that she leapt on Rainbows back, carefully avoiding hitting her wings and they flew out of the castle together, giggling like little filly's
After everypony had said goodbye and went back to there homes Scootaloo and her moms where about to set off for the park when Spike came running into the room with a letter for Twilight.
"Twi, you got a letter off the Princess's!" He said excitedly.
"Thank you Spike" Twilight replied calmly as she took the letter in her magical grasp and began to read it to herself, she smiled over at her Marefriend and Daughter before saying "I think we might have to go to the park tomorrow instead"
"AWWW, but i was looking forward to going!" Scootaloo sighed miserably.
"I know Sweetheart but the Princess's want to come and spend time with you" Twilight replied gently, nuzzling her daughters cheek "Wait, the Princess's, you mean Luna and Celestia want to come and see me!" Scootaloo exclaimed bouncing up and down with excitement
Twilight chuckled softly before replying. "Yes scoots they want to spend some time with you" She replied to her excited little filly.
As Twilight was about to continue there was a gentle knock on the door, before either Fluttershy or Twilight could react, Spike was out the room and half way down the stairs. "Come on slowpokes, that's probably them now!" Scootaloo shouted as she zoomed out of her room towards the front door.
As Twilight and Fluttershy walked out of their daughters bedroom, their tails intertwined, they could hear Celestia greeting Spike and Scootaloo. "Good morning my little pony's, i see you two are excited today" she softly chuckled as she and Luna trotted into the castle.
"Why wouldn't we be, it's not every day you get to hang around with the royal sisters!" Scootaloo exclaimed, her wings buzzing with excitement. Any further words were cut off as Luna scooped her up and gave her a big hug.
"Aww your so adorable Scootaloo" Luna said as she felt the little filly nuzzle further into her chest, noticing Spike standing awkwardly to the side Luna unfurled her wing and pulled him into the hug as well, a faint blush visible on both of their cheeks, which did not go unnoticed by Celestia who gave her sister a knowing smirk before becoming speechless at the sight at the top of the stairs.
Twilight and Fluttershy both stood at the top of the staircase, Twilight wearing her crown and Fluttershy her element necklace. Twilight also had her wing covering Fluttershy's back protectively while the shy Pegasus Nuzzled into Twilight's mane smiling affectionately down at the scene below.
"Hello Celestia, Luna" Twilight chirped as she and Fluttershy began to walk down the stairs.
"Hello Twilight dear, i see you and Fluttershy have grown close" Celestia replied as a smile formed around her muzzle.
"Yes we have" Twilight replied as she gave Fluttershy a gentle kiss on the lips, causing them both to turn a light shade of crimson.
"wow, i mean't closer as Friends but this is even better my little twilight finally has a special somepony!" Celestia exclaimed as she gave the couple a big hug with both her wings. Luna just chuckled at her big sister, she might have been the older but at times like these you wouldn't know it.
Celestia looked at her sister with a quizzical look, one that asked why are you acting like you already knew. "Because i did already know sister, i manipulated the constellations so Twilight could express her feeling to Fluttershy." Luna told her sister as she used her magic to lift both Scootaloo and Spike onto her back. "Now am i right in guessing you don't have any toys at the moment?" Luna asked Scootaloo, who nodded slowly not wanting to upset her mommy's.
"It's OK Scootaloo you don't have to be afraid to be honest" Twilight gentle cooed over to her daughter after she had noticed the hesitation in her response, Scootaloo smiled and visibly relaxed after that.
"Well my sister has somethings to discuss with Your mum's, so i thought i would take you two toy shopping" Luna told the two little ones on her back who both began to beam with joy. "if that's OK with you two?" Luna asked Twilight and Fluttershy who both nodded their consent. " Well then we haven't a moment to lose she exclaimed dramatically as she ran over to the door, though not so fast that Scootaloo and Spike would have a hard time holding onto her.
After the others had left Twilight, Fluttershy and Celestia had moved into the throne room so that they could sit down. "So what did you want to talk to us about Celestia?" Twilight asked after she had taken her seat at her throne with Fluttershy leaning against her like a big fluffy pillow.
"Well after Scootaloo sent me and Luna the letter i quickly visited the orphanage to get all of the paperwork sorted out, so you won't need to worry about that." Celestia told them.
"Oh that's wonderful Princess, Scootaloo really didn't want to go back to that place at all and now she doesn't!" Fluttershy exclaimed happily "Thank you" She added in a gentler tone after her initial excitement died down.
"Your welcome Fluttershy and please call me Celestia there is no need for formality among friends" Celestia replied to Fluttershy before turning her attention to Twilight who had become unusually quiet, however as both she and Fluttershy looked at Twilight they saw something they weren't expecting to see, she was crying!
"Twilight Darling are you okay" Fluttershy asked her marefriend, who looked up at her and smiled.
"I'm more than alright sweetheart, this is the happiest day of my life." she replied between shaky sobs of happiness " I woke up to find the most beautiful mare in Equestria cuddled into me and now i have an amazing daughter as well, my life is perfect" She finished softly before leaning into the affectionate nuzzles that Fluttershy was giving her.
"Well i must be going, i have to entertain an ambassador from saddle Arabia" Celestia said as she got up and began to walk away from the beautiful scene she had just witnessed. "oh, and don't worry about the little ones Luna will bring them back once their done." she continued when she saw a small hint of worry seep into Twilight's smile. As she reached the front door she decided to have a little fun with her old student. "Twilight, be a dear and send me a letter so i know when the wedding is!" she shouted before quickly teleporting away.
Both Twilight and Fluttershy sat there in pure shock, they hadn't even went on their first date yet, and the sun goddess herself had just asked when they were getting married. Suddenly the lovers realized just how hectic a day it had been and broke out into uncontrollable laughter.
"Were here little ones" Luna informed her two little passengers, both of them had their jaws dropped when they saw where Luna had taken them, they had thought they where going to the small toy shop in ponyville but Luna had brought them to the massive one in Canterlot.
"Wow Princess i thought you where just taking us to the little toy store in Ponyville" Scootaloo said in awe as she hopped of the Lunar Regents back.
Luna chuckled at the awe in Scootaloos voice before giving her a reply "Oh little one, why would i take you there when you have so much choice here?" she asked as they began to trot through the entrance.
Once they were inside Scootaloo and Spike raced off along the different aisles leaving Luna to trot along the first aisle idly waiting for them to turn up with the first things they wanted, and while her big sister had told her not to spoil them with anything they wanted, Luna had every intention of doing just that.
As Spike raced down the power pony aisle, Scootaloo turned into an aisle she knew a certain Cyan Pegasus mare would be just as giddy over as she was, honestly Rainbow might have been one now but she hadn't stopped seeing Spitfire and the other bolts as her idols. As she walked down the aisle looking at all the different Wonderbolt figures including one of Rainbow Dash herself something caught her eye, it was in the section titled Wonderbolt approved, as she got closer she realized that what she had saw was a scooter helmet completely plain except the wonder bolt logo on either side. Once she reached it she picked it up and read the label.
'The Creative Wonder was created by Dash as a way for young pony's to express themselves while staying safe riding their bike or scooter, thanks to a special spell what ever you decide to do with the helmet be that paint it or color it with felt tips once the color has been applied it won't wear off.
After reading the label and deciding she would get it Scootaloo knew what her next port of call would be, if she was going to get a new helmet she might as well get a new scooter "Oh Luna damn it" she muttered under her breath when she realized that she would probably need a basket to carry around the different things she wanted to buy.
"Sorry i can't damn thin air little one" Luna whispered into Scootaloos ear playfully, earning a small eep from the startled little filly. "why don't you put the helmet in this basket and then we can go look at the scooters together" Luna said as she levitated a basket off of her back and in front of Scootaloo.
"hehe sorry for cursing Princess Luna" Scootaloo replied smiling sheepishly up at the Lunar Princess, who to Scootaloos surprise was now trying to hold back a chuckle.
"Oh little one do not fret, you would not believe how many times i can curse in an hour" she said to the now awe struck filly stood in front of her, who no doubt now had images of Luna swearing swirling round her head. "Though don't make a habit of it, i would rather not have to explain to your mum's that i let you swear OK?" Luna quickly asked Scootaloo who was finally out of her trance
"OK Princess" Scootaloo replied before trotting towards the Scooter aisle, where believe it or not Spike was stood looking at the Different Scooters himself. Once Spike noticed Scootaloo was trotting over to him he grinned enthusiastically at her before pointing to a orange and purple Scooter next to him that would be just the right size for either of them.
"I reckon you should get that one Scoots" he said as she came within earshot. "it's the newest model of it's kind" he added after rereading the information board next to the display.
Both Spike and Scootaloo where very giddy about the Scooter until their eyes fell on the price, 500 bits.
"I can't ask the Princess to get me something this expensive" Scootaloo said softly.
"Yeah, i was going to ask for one too, but we can't ask her to spend a thousand bits on two Scooters." Spike added sullenly.
"Nonsense, a thousand bits to me is like a single bit to anypony else!" Luna exclaimed to the two of them causing them to jump slightly. Luna chuckled at their cute reaction to her little scare before adding "Scootaloo why don't you and Spike look around the rest of the store while i buy you both a Scooter and the protective gear to go with them." Spike and Scootaloo nodded in agreement before both disappeared down a toy isle together while Luna went back to the Wonderbolt aisle to get another creative wonder helmet and find some knee and arm pads for them.
Half an hour later, with two brand new Scooters and all the gear to safely ride them, as well as a set of action pony figures each and an overwhelming gift of two thousand bits each to spend when ever they felt like it. The three ponies where walking from Sugarcube Corner where Luna had bought them all lunch, when she used her magic to assemble the two scooters their packages vanishing out of existence and passing the safety gear also now devoid of packaging to the two little ones.
"Why don't you ride your Scooters the rest of the way, you can give your mom's a surprise." She said to Scootaloo who smiled up at the Princess as she clipped her helmets strap into place under her chin. "And i'm sure your sister has never seen you ride a Scooter before Spike imagine the look on Twilight's face." Luna added to Spike as he got on his Scooter and they began to move again Scootaloo and Spike always just slightly ahead of Luna.
As the castle came into view Spike dropped back to ask Luna something that had been bothering him all day. "Luna whenever i'm with Scootaloo you call me a little one, you don't really see me as a kid,... do you?" He asked hesitantly, almost fearing the answer.
"No Spike i merely call you little one so Scootaloo feels like she has someone closer to her age to confide in, even though you were born when twilight was seven, which makes you about fifteen in pony years and thirty in dragon years." she explained as she give him a light nuzzle "and don't worry your secret's safe with me" Luna cooed quietly before giving him a light peck on the lips and winking.
Spike just smiled he finally had a Marefriend, and it was the Princess of the night.
After quick embrace, Spike and Luna turned the corner to find Scootaloo looking at them with a knowing smirk "Don't worry your secrets safe with me too, if you can beat me home!" she exclaimed as she hopped onto her Scooter and propelled her self towards the castle of friendship like a torpedo, her wings buzzing loudly from the speed she was beating them at.
"Your on!" Spike shouted to the little orange blur in the distance, before zooming off after her himself.
Luna knowing she wouldn't be able to keep up with the two scooters speed decided to teleport ahead and drop off the other toys and gifts before sitting on the front steps with Twilight and Fluttershy both of whom had been given reprising looks since she told them about how much some of the things cost however her answer was quite plain and honest "Well somepony has to spoil them" to which all three began to laugh just as Spike and Scootaloo pulled up in front of the Step and dove onto them, giving the three of them the biggest embrace the two of them were able to, in spite of their smile size.
"WERE BACK!" they both exclaimed loudly before bursting into giggles, the three older mares soon following in their wake.
"We can see that!" Twilight giggled as she Felt Scootaloos feathers tickle her sensitive belly. As everypony got up from their positions on the floor, a bright red flame flashed in front of Luna, before a scroll fell to the floor.
"It would seem my Sister has decided to give me the week off" Luna said after she had picked up the scroll and read it.
Twilight spotting a glance between Spike and Luna, saw that they both looked extremely happy at the news, Twilight knew why Luna would be glad to get some time off, but she didn't understand why Spike would be just as happy unless...
"Om my gosh, you two will make such a perfect couple" Twilight exclaimed as she brought both Luna and Spike into a big hug.
" Were we really that obvious?" Luna asked shyly, Spike wrapping a claw around her hoof for comfort.
"No, I only figured it out because Spike was just as happy as you were that you got a whole week off" Twilight told Luna kindly. "But you two shouldn't have to hide that your in love with each other!" Twilight added passionately as an afterthought.
"Really?" Spike and Luna asked in unison.
"Of course you shouldn't hide your love for each other, nopony else has the right to tell you who you can and can't love!" Fluttershy replied while giving Twilight a loving nuzzle.
"Thanks for being OK with us, Big sis" Spike said as he embraced Twilight.
"Your welcome little bro" replied Twilight as she gestured for everypony else to join the embrace.
They remained in a silent embrace for what seemed an eternity to the happy family until a bitter wind began to bite at their fur and steal the warmth away from the group hug.
"Come on everypony, let's get inside before we end up catching a cold" Twilight said as they began to shiver. Everypony not wanting to stay out in the cold quickly trotted back up the stairs and into the warmth of Twilight's castle.
Once they were inside they all decide to to have a hot chocolate and sit around the fire cuddled up in a blanket. As Luna, Spike and Scootaloo got cozy under the blanket, Twilight and Fluttershy entered the kitchen to make everypony's hot chocolate.
"Twilight Darling, I was wondering if we could go on our first date tomorrow?" Fluttershy asked as she finished stirring Scootaloos hot chocolate.
"Of course we can but we'll have to find somepony to look after Scootaloo" Twilight said as she gave Fluttershy a gentle nuzzle, eliciting a small giggle from the shy Pegasus pony.
"We could always ask Rainbow Dash" Fluttershy suggested as she regained her composure and placed both her own mug and Scootaloos on the tray.
"yeah your right, once Scootaloos in bed i'll pop out and ask her, i'm sure you'll be fine with Luna and Spike till i get back" Twilight replied as she hovered the tray in front of her. "Come on lets get these drinks to the other and get warmed up ourselves.
Later on that evening, once Scootaloo was asleep Twilight set off towards Rainbow Dash's cloud house on the outskirts of ponyville, whispering to herself bitterly as she wen't. "Oh, sure Twilight offer to go and ask Dash to mind your daughter in person, it's so celestia damned cold out here you should only freeze into a pony pop once you reach Rainbow's house!" Once Twilight reached Rainbows house she flew up to the door to find a note on it. 'Staying over at AJ's.'. The note finally broke Twilight's nerves "Oh come on, what am i supposed to do teleport there!" She nearly screamed in annoyance, until she realized that she could teleport there. "He he, sooo glad no pony saw that" She said before Teleporting to sweet apple acres. Once Twilight arrived she knocked on the door expecting Big Mac to answer it, but was instead greeted by Rainbow and Applejack themselves.
"Hiya Twi, what can we do for ya?" Applejack asked as she and Rainbow stepped to the side to allow Twilight to enter the house.
"Well me and Fluttershy were going to go on our first date tomorrow, and we wondered if Dash would watch Scootaloo for us tomorrow, and of course you're welcome to help too AJ" Twilight replied cheerfully as warmth began to seep back into her body.
"No problem Twi, me and AJ will be over around Five o'clock, that sound good to you." Rainbow Replied, Applejack nodding her head in agreement.
"Yeah that's fine and thanks for doing this on such short notice you two." Twilight said as she gave her friends a good bye hug.
"No problem Sugarcube" AJ replied as she tipped her stetson at Twilight, before the purple alicorn teleported back to her castle.
Once Twilight was back everypony decided to go to bed. Once Twilight and Flutteryshy were snuggled up in bed, they decided to read for a bit as both of them were excited for tomorrow.
As the night went on Fluttershy began to wonder where they would go for their first date and eventually decided to ask Twilight.
"Twilight sweetheart, where are we going to go for our first date?" Fluttershy asked her marefriend, a cute, quizzical look on her face.
"That's a surprise cutie" Twilight teased as she lit her horn and moved the books they had been reading of the bed and onto the bookcase before stretching her wings around her marefriend and cuddling into her.
Between Twilight's cuddling and and the warmth of the sheets Fluttershy was soon fast asleep herself and dreaming of what tomorrow's surprise could be.
Later on in the night Scootaloo came into her mum's room and Curled up in between her parent's wings, just as she was about to fall asleep however she noticed a shooting star and made a wish, that she could find love and happiness with her crush. The same way her moms had.
The next morning everypony but Spike and Luna woke up early, which didn't really surprise the others. After all Luna was the Princess of the night and Spike just liked to sleep in. so Twilight left a note on the breakfast table in the kitchen letting Spike and Luna know that they were taking Scootaloo to the park for a little bit.
On their way there they bumped into Rarity,Pinkie Pie and Sweetie Belle, who where on their way to the park as well. so they all decided to go as one big group with the two little filly's running ahead of the adults. As the group walked towards the park entrance they noticed that there was a sign next to a bed of roses which read; "Please take a rose and share your love with somepony".
Just as Twilight was about to pick a rose for Fluttershy, she and everypony else saw something very unexpected. They saw Scootaloo pick a rose and put it in Sweetie Belles mane, causing both fillies to blush and the older mares to giggle. "Aww how cute!" Rarity and Pinkie exclaimed in unison causing Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle to blush harder.
"Please don't tell Rainbow Dash!" Scootaloo quickly exclaimed, worried that Rainbow wouldn't want to hang around with someone so sappy.
"Tell me what?" asked a voice from across the rose bed. To Scootaloo's horror Rainbow Dash was stood on the other side of the rose bed with Applejack and Apple bloom. "that you have feelings?" Rainbow continued as she bent her head down and plucked a rose out of the bed, before placing it gently into Applejacks hair. "there's nothing wrong with that" she finished once she had placed her wing around AJ.
Everypony giggled at Scootaloo's shocked face, however they soon recovered and all decided to carry on to lake inside the park but not before Twilight and Rarity both picked a rose and gave it to their respective partner's. once they had reached the lake the Crusaders went to play on the shore while the older mares sat underneath a tree on a hill overlooking it.
"So who do you think will ask the other out first, Sweetie Belle or Scootaloo?" Rainbow asked her best friends once they where all comfortable.
"Hmm, i'd say Scootaloo would, after all she does like wining just like her idol" Twilight said before giggling at the light blush Dash's cheeks.
"What's the matter sugarcube, ya don't normally blush at being praised" AJ teased Rainbow, cuddling into her and giving her a nuzzle causeing Rainbow to blush harder.
"yeah well, maybe i'm in sappy mood" Rainbow replied kissing applejack on the cheek causing the orange farmer to blush brighter than her big brothers coat.
"You owe me twenty bits darling" Rarity told Pinkie who had been lied down next to her, nearly asleep.
"Uh Rares am i missing something, Rainbow kissed me and now Pinkie owes you twenty bits?" Applejack asked still slightly flustered but more than anything confused. "wait where you two betting on who kissed who in front of everypony first?" she added when she saw them begin to smirk,to which they broke down into full on laughter.
Once they recovered from their laughter Rarity decided to make Applejack and Rainbow Dash feel better by giving a kiss to pinkie pie to which their where two audible gasps.
"Wait did yo two already know about Rarity and Pinkie Pie?" Rainbow asked Twilight and Fluttershy who where both just sat smiling at the current converstaion.
"Yes, Twilight noticed it when we announced that we where together and i already knew because Rarity had told me on our weekly spa trip" Fluttershy explained giggling at Rainbows shocked face.
"Hey Mum, miss Rarity is it Ok if Sweetie Belle has a sleep over with me please!" Scootaloo shouted over as she and Sweetie Belle ran over to them.
"What about Apple bloom?" Twilight asked the two of them, though it was Applejack who replied.
"Apple bloom is having a sleep over with Silver spoon tonight." Applejack informed Twilight.
""well then i don't have any problems, but me and Fluttershy are going on a date tonight, so it will be Rainbow Dash and Applejack looking after you." Twilight told the girls, after which their smiles grew, knowing Rainbow would let them stay up late.
"I too don't have any quarrel with you two having a sleep over" Rarity added smiling at the two little fillies.
"Yay!" They exclaimed in unison, before rushing off to play down at the waters edge with Apple bloom again.
an hour later everypony decided it was time to head home for the day,Rarity and Pinkie had offered to take Apple bloom home so Rainbow and Applejack could go back to the castle with Twilight, Fluttershy,Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle. once they where back Twilight went into the kitchen to make everypony some hot chocolate while they all played games in the games room, which Rainbow Dash had assured Twilight already came with the castle.
at about four-thirty Twilight and Fluttershy began saying bye for the night. "We'll see you when we get back and thanks for coming over earlier than planned" she said to Applejack as she gave her a hug.
"It was nah problem Sugarcube, you two enjoy yourselves tonight" she replied as she walked them to the door.
"We will, don't worry!" Twilight shouted back up the steps before turning to face Fluttershy.
"So sweetheart are you going to tell me where were going." Fluttershy asked her marefriend while giving her a kiss on the lips.
"Not yet no, just hold on tight dear" Twilight teased as her horn began to glow.
"OK cutie" Fluttershy replied before there was an audible pop and they both teleported away.
When Fluttershy regained her focus, she realized that they where stood inside twilight's old house in canterlot castle. when she looked to her right she saw the only source of light was coming from a candlelit table with her favorite meal on it, Vegetable casserole. "Oh wow, you did all this for me Sweetheart?" Fluttershy asked in awe as she pulled her marefriend in for a hug.
"Of course i did all this for you cutie" Twilight replied kissing Fluttershy passionately, before breaking the kiss and leading Fluttershy to her seat. once they where both seated they began to eat in companionable silence.
Back at the castle Applejack was making everypony diner while Rainbow kept Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle occupied by playing games, most of which involved the little filly's throwing pillows at Rainbow and pretending to knock her out of the air. Spike and Luna had come down to inform them that they would be eating out, so AJ wasn't too worried about others being caught in the crossfire, though she herself had to duck on several occasions.
"You got me!" Rainbow cried dramatically as she landed and fell onto her side, pretending to be unable to get up, before she could do anything else however, she was suddenly set upon by Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle who both started to tickle her. "Haha s-stop, that tickles!" She cried out in laughter as she started to tickle the filly's back. soon the castle was filled with the sound of laughter as the three continued their tickle fight. Eventually Applejack called them all to the dining room for diner and they all settled down to eat.
"Mmmm your cooking's really good Applejack, could you teach me to cook like that one day!?" Scootaloo exclaimed as she devoured her vegetable soup.
"Hehe sure thing sugarcube" Applejack replied as she began to eat her food herself. "Your awfully quiet Dashie, something wrong?" AJ added as she arched her eyebrows at Rainbow Dash.
"Nothing's wrong AJ, just enjoying your cooking same as Scoots and Sweetie" Rainbow replied as she gestured to the two filly's sat on the other side of the table.
"Oh, really Sugarcube, so why are you starting ta blush?" AJ questioned nuzzling Rainbows muzzle.
"I'll tell you after the girls are in bed" Rainbow replied as she nuzzled back
"Ok Sugarcube" AJ replied as she stopped teasing Rainbow and tucked into her dinner.
Once everypony was finished their dinner, Rainbow Dash cleaned the dishes while AJ took the girls up to their room to get ready for bed.
"Hey Applejack, can you tell us a bedtime story, please" Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo asked simultaneously
"Sure, thing girls, Scootaloo why don't ya go get Rainbow for me and she can mimic the people in the story for us" AJ replied.
As Scootaloo walked back into the kitchen, she noticed that Rainbows right wing was bleeding, and her largest primary feather was on the floor next to her. Not wanting to scare AJ or Sweetie, Scootaloo rushed to the cyan Pegasus mare
"Rainbow are you alright!" she asked quietly but panicked.
"Yeah, I'm fine Scoots, i did it on purpose" she replied through a sudden wince of pain.
"W... W... WHY!" Scootaloo almost shouted in shock and worry as she gently lifted Rainbow, who had now slumped on to her right side back up to her full height.
"Because Scoots this is how we Pegasus propose Marriage to their Special Somepony" Rainbow replied, as she scooped the primary feather off the floor in her still intact wing. "Can you help me walk get up the stairs please scoots"
"Of course, Rainbow!" Scoots exclaimed as she got super excited at the prospect of seeing her Idol propose in front of her.
back in Scootaloo's bedroom AJ and Sweetie Belle were beginning to worry as they hadn't heard anything since Scootaloo loudly exclaimed something, though they had thought her and rainbow where just messing around. However, when they heard hoof steps on the stairs they calmed down and waited patiently. A few minutes later Scootaloo came in, smiling from ear to ear. "AJ Rainbow said she wants you to hold out a hoof and close your eyes" She giggled as she went and cuddled into Sweetie belle, whispering into her loves ear, who also began to beam with joy.
"Okay Sugarcube" Applejack replied, doing as she was asked thinking this was one of Dashies playful jokes.
Scootaloo gave a little nod to the Rainbow who, the primary now in her mouth by the tip, walked up to her Special somepony and placed the feather in her outstretched hoof. "You can open your eyes now my love" Rainbow said even more cutely and shyly than she normally would.
Applejack opened her eyes and looked at what was in her hoof, before immediately crying and diving into Dash, yelling "YES!" over and over again. eventually Scoots and Sweetie couldn't take it anymore and dived into the and started to congratulate them both
"OH MY CELESTIA, WHERE SO HAPPY FOR YOU BOTH!" they exclaimed in unison. They all giggled and cuddled on the floor before sweetie Belles curiosity piqued. "Wait how did Applejack know what the feather meant?" She asked with giving AJ a curious look. "Well, suagrcube Rainbow and I used to discuss the differences between Earth pony and Pegasi traditions when we first met each other" she smiled as she nuzzled under Rainbows head. "Proposal was one of the things that came up and I always thought that the Pegasi tradition was really darn sweet" Applejack finished.
As Flutteshy and Twilight left Twilights old room, the clock tower chimed Midnight "Are you sure we should be walking around the Castle this late at night sweetie?" Fluttershy ask nervously as she walked next to her Marefriend, wrapped beneath her soft, violet wing. "Yes, I am my love, there's something special I want to show you in the gardens" Twilight replied, lighting her horn and gently Nuzzling against Fluttershys neck. "Oh, okay darling" Fluttershy said as she relaxed under the soothing glow of her Marefriends soft, shimmering light.
As they slowly walked down the path to the gardens, Fluttershy noticed that there didn't seem to be any royal guards at all. "Twilight sweetie, why aren't there any royal guards?" She asked giving an adorable inquisitive look "There are darling, they just prefer to hide in the shadows, theirs's a reason Lunas night guards call themselves the Soldiers of the night" Twilight chuckled, waving to a Shadowy figure that seemed to appear out of nowhere "Princess Twilight, Miss Fluttershy" The figure said as they bowed respectfully, revealing themselves to be a muscular bat pony. "Good evening Silent Shadow" Twilight replied smiling at him "Fluttershy and I will be in the royal gardens should anypony need us" she continued as he lifted up from the bow. "Understood Princess, I hope you both have a lovely night" he answered as he spread his wings, readying them for flight. "Thank you, Captain," Twilight said as he took flight, on his regular patrol of the Canterlot sky.
"Come on sweetie, it's not far now" Twilight said to Fluttershy as she intertwined their tails. "Oh okay" she said as she looked in the direction that Silent Shadow had flown off in "Are you okay sweetheart?" Twilight asked sensing something was up with her Marefriend. "It's just I've never seen anypony who looks like the captain, was there something wrong with him" Fluttershy stammered nervously "There's nothing wrong with him darling, he's a bat pony he was born like that, all of Luna's Guards are" Twilight calmly explained as she they began to walk slowly towards the gardens again. "Oh... like when that spell backfired on me?" Fluttershy asked innocently, though Twilight winced at the memory, it was something she had never fully forgiven herself for, though she quickly regained her composure "Not exactly, while they share the same features as you did, these ponies are born this way and were found by Luna when the sisters first explored the mountain that Canterlot would eventually be built on, seeing their love of the dark and their loyalty to others, including any ponies who got lost in the caverns, seeing this Luna allowed them to become her Royal Guard!" Twilight geeked out, eliciting a chuckle and kiss on the cheek from Fluttershy "you're so adorable when you geek out darling!" Fluttershy giggled.
At last, they rounded a corner into a beautiful ornate garden with neat flower beds, beautiful pines and a small lake. "Oh my, this is such a beautiful place Twilight!" Fluttershy exclaimed, gleaming with joy. Twilight sat in the middle of a small circle of flowers as she watched her marefriend happily hover about talking to different night critters and smelling the different flowers and blossoms. "Oh, I could spend the whole night here just talking to these amazing animals!" Fluttershy squealed as she sat next to her Marefriend, wrapping her wing around her. "Though I've never seen these before" she continued, looking curiously at the circle of flowers they were sat in. "These are the special thing I wanted to show you" Twilight replied, extinguishing the light of her horn. Suddenly the flowers, that had been hiding inside their bud's moments ago sprung to life, deep lavenders mixed with bright yellows. Fluttershys eyes began to water slightly "their beautiful my darling!" she said as she cuddled into Twilight and kissed her on the lips. "Would you like to know what they're called cutie?" Twilight asked returning the kiss. "Mhm" Fluttershy replied in a happy daze "There called sparkling night Shys" she said, as if on cue the flowers began to sparkle like stars "OH MY GOODNESS!" Fluttershy exclaimed they're absolutely beautiful and amazing, bringing Twilight into a deep kiss, wrapping her wings around their faces to hide them from view and light them up with the sparkles. "I love you my Princess" she said as she pulled back from the kiss "I love you too my darling Pegasus" Twilight replied pulling her back into the kiss. As their kiss finally came to an end, they sat, hoof in hoof and wing in wing, smiling away happily at their beautiful surroundings.
A short time later Silent Shadow landed in the gardens and sat at the edge of the lake, staring into the crystal-clear water "Are you okay Captain?" Twilight asked as she and Fluttershy stood up and walked other to him. "Yes Princess, I just like to spend time in the Gardens" Twilight raised her eyebrow "Silent, I know you too well, you never sit still unless somethings wrong, so I'm asking as your friend to tell me" Silent Shadow chuckled lightly "never could get anything past you Twilight, I received a letter from Cloudsdale flight rehabilitation centre" he sighed "oh I'd forgotten that was part of your responsibilities to see what's wrong with Pegasi who miss their appointments" Twilight replied sheepishly "so did I if I'm truly honest, but that's not what's bothering me, it's the pony the letters about" He answered nervously "What do you mean Captain?!" Fluttershy asked nervously. "There's no easy way for me to say this so I'll let you both read it for yourselves" he replied with a trembling voice, laying the letter on the floor. Twilight began to read it aloud "Dear Captain Shadow, we apologise for this letter coming more than a few years late, however this file was only recently recovered from our burnt down office but it has come to our attention that following our initial meeting the young filly named Scootaloo has not attend her follow up appointments, sadly however we were able to confirm all those years ago that this young filly will never grow into her wings and thus never be able to fly. Please would you be able to bring her for an appointment if possible. Sincerely Dr Feather Rest
"Thank you for bringing this to us Silent Shadow" Twilight said through teary eyes as she hugged him "you should get some rest, it will be morning soon" she added seeing his weary eyes I think I'll stay here a little longer, I'm so sorry Princess, Miss Fluttershy" Fluttershy hugged him tight before letting go "it's not your fault Captain, I'm just glad we know the truth, please get some rest soon" she told him "Goodbye Captain" Twilight said her horn lit up and she and Fluttershy were Teleported back to their room in the castle of friendship, where they fell asleep in each other's arms in silent tears, Twilight hiding the letter on top of a bookcase so no pony would find it
