Rainbow Dash lives an exciting life and is swiftly becoming the most daring, awesome pegasus in all of Equestria. She would gladly give it all up, though, just to confess her love to Applejack.
From a distance, Applejack looked happy.
Then again, Applejack looked like anything from a distance.
Rainbow Dash was finally starting to grasp that.
Still, it didn't stop the mare from perching on a distant treetop, gazing deadpan into the verdant green lengths of Sweet Apple Acres.
The farmfilly in question could be seen packing apples into the back of a wagon. She paused every now and then—if only to wipe the sweat from her brow. At one point, Big Macintosh crossed paths with her. The two exchanged glances... then a few words. A smile was shared, even a chuckle or two.
That—at last—was enough for Rainbow Dash to feel satiated. She watched the two siblings do menial work for a few more minutes...
...then at last she turned tail and flew east towards Ponyville.
Losing sight of the freckles didn't sting so much this time. Then again, it could very well have been the numbness.
Rainbow Dash stared at her reflection in the alicorn goblet. Her ears folded back. At one point, she reached her hoof towards the delicate handle of the container... but eventually retracted.
A sigh, and she turned around to face the dim lengths of her bedroom. The place was a disordinate mess, with blankets and clothes and other random items thrown across the room and furniture.
Such a fragile, precious abode... and all this time she had treated it like a landfill.
Fidgeting, the mare rubbed her numb hooves together... then eventually floated over to an endtable. There, a bag of bits rested—still wrapped in Las Pegasus burlap. She gave the satchel a little shake. Her ears tickled to the sound of jingling bits.
With a determined scowl, she tossed the satchel into a saddlebag and flung it over her flank.
The Everfree Forest opened up to Rainbow Dash as she descended sharply.
Her eyes peered into the dim underbrush. At last, she zeroed in on a lone hut in the middle of the woods.
However... just seconds before she could touch down...
...she lingered in mid-air.
She spotted two figures gardening on the outskirts. One striped and the other clad in a dark cloak. Zecora and Noir finished arranging a line of blue and green flowers. Rainbow instantly recognized the Poison Joke, and she could see that the arrangement of the plants allowed for a set of crops to grow outrageously large—extra ripe for the harvesting.
Zecora bore a proud smile. She looked at Noir, and the sarosian poked his head out of his hood just long enough to give her an amorous nuzzle. Indecipherable words echoed between them, followed by laughter. The two resumed their gardening as the sun waned on into afternoon shadow.
Rainbow lingered in place. She glanced back at her bulging saddlebag, then down at her numb hooves. The mare's nostrils flared... and she soon turned around... and drifted away.
The bell above a pawn shop's door opened.
The proprietor lifted his head up from behind the counter. He paused in polishing off a toaster and a blender, then walked towards the center of the store. "Greetings! Welcome to Ponyville Pawn! How can I help—" He paused, squinting. "...Rainbow Dash! Wow! The local speedster! Heheh..." He grinned. "Come to buy some flight goggles?"
"Sorry, no." Rainbow cleared her throat, floating towards him with her hooves above the ground. "I... uh... saw the sign posted out side. I hear that you're giving extra bits for furniture?"
"Heh. Yeah. The market's pretty slim right now." He raised an eyebrow. "You... got some stuff to sell?"
"You could say that. How much room do you have to store product?"
"Uh... it depends." The store owner rubbed the back of his head. "Just... how much furniture are we talking about?"
She looked at him dead-on. "A lot."

...She's leaving? No. No way. That's not our Rainbow Dash. She might be proud enough not to want to mooch off of her firends, but moving away is basically abandoning them. That just isn't Rainbow's thing. Has to just be nabbing a passing cloud or something and simply deciding not to have a home in another fit of self destructive loyalty. She cares about Ponyville too much to ever move... Right?
...Right?
Moving to a new place is the best way to get over heartbreak. It feels like running away at the time, but if you stick around you just get stuck in a neverending rut. Rainbow needs to move, hopefully somewhere with a zebra shaman that can make anti atrophy potions though.....
*hears about story*
Oh that could be interesting and funny
*sees almost 1000 chapters and apparently not even close to the end*
We'll I'm sure it takes time to truly develop a relationshi-
*hears Applejack and Rainbow still aren't together*
Maybe next time.
What? Is she moving away? No, Dashie, no.
Hey Dash...shit's bad right now, I get that, but please.. don't sell your trophies or the Goblet.
You still have to apologize to Epcot and you said yourself, the name on those trophies is the only thing you have left of your parents.
Please Dash... you're going to regret it if you do.
7275918 It's... not the first time she's done so remember?
She did leave Cloudsdale after breaking up with Gilda.
and iirc Shy said she stopped hanging out with her when she didn't reciprocate the crush Dash had on her.
Shy know's what's about to happen. That's why she kept on hugging her.
Ho boy.
Okay yeah Stu definitely found the letter
The question now is why hasn't anyone in town noticed that Dash is being evicted?
I know we should probably be all sad about Rainbow selling all her furnishings, but... after today's episode, is Link now a canon background pony? Maybe Rainbow can go on an adventure with him to get enough of the bits to pay for a new house. That's what she's doing, right? Getting ready for an adventure? Not picking out a cardboard box to live in?
A million words and still no cuddles.

I get the feeling that she's just moving out, rather than moving away. I don't think she'd up and leave her friends at this point, especially Applejack, but her house is a great hassle simply for her to pay for, and it's full of her own misery. I think she'll try living without a house for a while. She's been on like twelve or so adventures with Lancie, so she already has some practice with the general idea.
Moving out, not moving away. Maybe she's finally gotten up the nerve to change her situation, instead of just wallowing in it. Change is good.
Ground house ground house ground house apartment?
Yet another curious chapter. Dash only just arrived back, so I doubt she'll move far if she does. In fact, I'm willing to bet she's planning on just living off the land for a while. Still, she's pushing everyone and everything away and it's beginning to take its toll not only on her but on her friends too. I'm just waiting to see how everything falls together (or apart) from here.
7276131 It's not for everyone, certainly.
It's a story about one person's life; you can't easily condense it into a summary or quantify it with any sort of concrete, satisfactory meaning.
Dash will get an apartment, a wacky roommate (please be Lancie), and canned laughs.
A friendly reminder that this is the element of loyalty we're talking about. She's in a rough patch, but she won't give up on her life in Ponyville... completely.
7279755 Just tell me this friend. Is this the kind of story that could have been wrapped up if Dash had just spit it out? And if it is, does that happen more than four times? If I forgave The Things Tavi Says for that, I can forgive this one.
Or does the author find a way to go deeper than "Rainbow can't express her feelings"?
7280564
yes.
Haaaaahahahahahahahahaha! only 4?
And yes. so much introspection.
Congrats on breaking a *million words* on this one.
7280564 There are some times in this story where most of us probably wish that Rainbow would just hurry up and spit it out, but of course we'd be missing the epic journey, then. It's not about the destination, after all.
That being said, it is something that happens so if that's the kind of thing that frustrates you, you might not make it. The arcs are all very interesting and many of them are HILARIOUS. Beyond that, though, there are many moments of serious emotion and some really good stuff about Rainbow's character. It's kind of difficult to explain.
7276619 Actually, Lyra and Bon Bon just gave us the cuddles we were promised a few chapters back.

From what we have seen, RD doesn't have many close relations and tend to push even his acquiances (aka as "friends") at hoof lenght.
she has also been pretty much absent from town and home most of the last months. Why would anyone go to her house ?
My predictions on what will happen.
RD will move out of his house. Wont tell her "friends" that she is homeless and unenployed. Will live off the land and sometimes crash on his friends houses (flutter, the bar gals). In one of those nights we will be remembered how much Caramel Wants his operation. we will see how AJ and Stu are slowly falling apart. RD will Confront Stu and find out that he found out that RD has a crush on AJ and as the noble character he is and out of loyalty for the mate who helped him so much he breaks up with AJ. The foreshadowed charity race will take place and RD will win it. With the money she will be able to buy her House back but she will give most of her money to Caramel and barely keep her house, mantaining a difficult economic situation. She will finally try to console a distraught AJ, who will lash at her for being absent and give hints on how she has missed her. Then, an adventure arc will happen, but its too far away to predict.
Don't you frigging dare get rid of the thing.
Please at least nuzzle Epcot first
