I'm suspending work on Paladin until I can come up with a more robust mythology and get a firmer grasp on the characters. The current chapter as it stands is a fair example of the style I'm going for and how want to portray Equestria and a reassurance to myself that I can actually turn out quality work with this theme in mind. However, I cannot in good conscience continue to write without a firm plan of what I want to do with the story. As a friend once told me, "You can't write something

I have done some minor revisions based on feedback both from FiMFiction.net and elsewhere. The story is now appropriately marked incomplete, though readers should expect several more revisions to go into this particular chapter before the final product arrives. My original concept utilized one of my very first OCs, an officer in the Royal Equestrian Army. A retiree, Aristotle is the typical veteran officer, with a bit of trolldad thrown in for good measure. His relationship with Celestia is strictly professional, though because of how long he's been in the service and the fact that he's worked with the Princess on a regular basis, he's a little looser in his conversation than the average butter bars fresh out of OCS.

Once again, I'm reminded of why it takes so long for me to finish any work and why it's so difficult for me to declare any of my work "complete."

If university has taught me anything, it's that good work takes time. Good work takes effort. Most significantly, good work takes time. There's no such thing as a rush job. Even on my 8 hour writing binges, I'm not going to churn out anything of particular value on the first pass.
