Three years after the Royal Sisters are overthrown by a distant cousin, the Mane Six are banished to deep space. Applejack, now a grizzled veteran of war turned smuggler-for-hire, takes her friends on as her crew in an attempt to rescue the missing loved ones of her family and friends, all while trying to survive the enemies of her past as well as the new foes that the unforgiving and unknown realm of the Equestrian Galaxy presents.

199252 I'm trying to be very careful with this project so I have the right blend of Firefly and MLP. I've gotten a bit of feedback that Applejack might a little too much like Captain Mal right now. I'll take all the criticism I can get, and for now I'll just thank you for being willing to give me a shot.
Anything you might want to suggest? Chapter 2 is in-development but it's not too late for me to incorporate anything.
199347 I'd actually say that Applejack isn't enough like Mal yet. Not enough snark. She's closer to Mal in "Serious Mode".
I'm seeing Pinkie as River's equivalent, and maybe have Big Mac as Jayne. Inara is probably Rarity, though it would be interesting* to have Fancypants take the role.
One big question is how/if/when the Reavers will show up.
Overall, though, it's still very good. I'd be fine if some of the iconic crew is missing, as long as the spirit of them is still there (Where would we be without Book telling us about the Special Hell?)

202234 You hit the nail on the head with some of the roles. I had it laid out so each pony inherits characteristics of the Firefly crew without completely becoming them:
-Applejack is basically Mal because both characters possess an element of honesty, though Mal's is a little more blunt.
-Pinkie Pie is essentially River, thanks to her Pinkie Sense. I will say that she underwent experiments, though not necessarily brain surgery.
-Rarity is the equivalent of Inara, although she serves as a fashion critic and designer instead of a sexual surrogate.
-I gave Big Macintosh Jayne's role just because it made the most sense.
-Fluttershy replaces Book in the sense of having a diplomat or a voice of reason. She's not a shepherd because I still
-Twilight and Kaylee are both fairly socially awkward characters with a brilliant knowledge of a particular field. In this instance, Twilight knows a lot about magic as well as mechanics.
-Rainbow Dash is of course, Wash.
-I pulled Spitfire out of a hat to replace Zoe
-Nurse Redheart for Simon. I almost thought about making Big Macintosh and Apple Bloom take the roles of Simon and River, but Mac isn't a doctor. It seemed a little out of place, so I stuck with a pony whom I knew possessed medical knowledge.
I feel like I'll give away too much if I say more. And yeah...Reavers...I gotta think of a good name for them. They'll be fun when I get to jumping that hurdle.

But yeah, seriously I am loving this so far. The ponies fit just about perfectly with their Firefly counterparts while still remaining somewhat true to their original selves. I am definitely going to keep track of this and I hope to see more chapters in the future.
