This idea came to me as I was watching Hearth's Warming Eve some time ago. Two things in particular struck me. One, that history may have been much more complicated than the play presents. And two, that characters may have been flanderized by history as many people in real life have in historical texts and works of fiction. I didn't mark it as one since there's no hugely radical change, but feel free to consider this an AU history for all intents and purposes if you wish, since I know I'm not good at tonally keeping with the show. I promise I won't go all grimdark on you, though!
