I'm almost certain I've seen this fic before. I mean, a MLD spin-off featuring Octavia. Am I hallucinating or is the author just that unoriginal?
I'm interested to see where you take this. I like stories like these, but everytime someone tries to write one, people talk shit and make the writer stop. So PLEASE don't stop writing this!! Octavia is also not only best background pony, but my favorite pony.
To the story though. I think it was a little to fast paced, and the main character was too accepting to see Octavia. If it were me, i'd be freaking out like, "Holy shit! It's mother bucking OCTAVIA!!!"

We got a teenager who loves My Little Pony. He is bullied by people because of that. His father calls him a faggot, you know, because he's a bad man with an alcohol problem. The teenager is apparently stronger than an adult and punches his lights out. Then they call the cops, smart, considering you could have done that before. Later he hears something crash into his backyard, which NO ONE else seems to notice. Ooh and did I mention that it is his favourite pony and she survived falling like a fucking meteor from the sky? Yes, she only has a couple of bruises.
Before you're gonna jump on me, let me make one thing perfectly clear. I have nothing against teenage angst, but only when it's either:
1. Well explained or,
2. Something unique.
You have got neither going on, it's typical and uninteresting. And your logic is... well, you punched a full-grown man unconscious, Octavia survive her fall (seriously, how does that work?) and no one, and I repeat, NO ONE, hears the crash?
I showed my reasons why I don't like this one. It's typical teenage angst mixed with wish-fullfilling logic. I won't say 'TAKE IT DOWN!', but I will say that it's bad.

You seem to be missing something here. The quality or likeability of a story often times has little to do with the story itself but the person writing it.
You used "My Little Rarity" as an example but the person that wrote that seems to have a big following and he's come up with a rather novel idea. It's not your standard, "find a little pony in a box and raise her as your own" type story. Yes, there is that element but there's more going on than just that.
Personally I've got a special dislike for "My Little Dashie". Not because of the subject or the quality of the story but because it's so cliche. Person with nothing in their life finds a baby, raises it as their own and through that child becomes a better person. Child is taken away, everybody is sad. Manly tears are shed. The end. It's been done before and it will be done again. I will give the author of that piece props for the simple reason that he managed to find a way to dupe so many people.
Then there's a special hatred for people who try to capitalize on that fame by writing their own watered down version of "My Little" whatever. The setup to those stories is always the same. Guy has a bad life, finds a pony inna box and magical things happen.
What this, and other authors, need to do is to find some new way of bringing this to the masses so we're not always faced with the same, bland, watered down stuff that has been peddled a hundred times before and will continue to be a go to piece for people with no imagination or skill in writing.

Forgive me but I've heard this all before.
"Oh no, my story is completely different! Just keep reading and you'll see." You can also replace "completely different" with "going to get better" & "just warming up" for variety but the problem is you've already failed to grab an audience. Think about it. If you watch a TV show for the first time and by the first commercial break you're bored silly do you say to yourself, "maybe it'll get better by the second half'? No, most people will turn it off or change the channel at that point. The same goes for any story like this especially those that want to follow in the footsteps of "My Little Dashie", "Cupcakes" or "The Rainbow Factory". All you're doing is tying your story to a much more popular or infamous story in an attempt to ride their coattails to fame.
You can't tell me that "My Little Dashie" was not an inspiration to write this just like other more famous stories have been inspiration for others to try their hand at writing something similar. It's been done a thousand times before and you're not going to be the last one to do so.

That's the only thing that is the same. Now if you have a problem with that than you don't have to continue reading it. Some people like this story of mine and others don't and i'm ok with that.
