So, since I received a few complaints about not mentioning this in earlier chapters, I will do so now.
For those interested or unaware, I have made a sequel to this story, you can find it here; The Watcher: Rise of the Purveyor
Sorry for the late update, enjoy the rest of your day ^^
Have a wallpaper as an apology.
Great, i got excited for a second there when i saw the star..... oh well.
Is that the Purveyor?
2623959 It's something I did before the story, but I think it suits the idea quite well (except some clothes on him would have looked bettter maybe ^^)
2624002 Other than the background, i like.
2623714
As much as I know that feel, Gnoll is awesome with updates for the better part.
Zero pomclaints here.
Awesome fic
Never mind. He is a Dota amalgamation. Looks like Arc Warden, powers like Abbadon, attitude like Outword Devourer.
Huh. This was definitely an interesting story, but I'm unsure on if I liked it or not. I expected Humanity to die since the mention of Plan Zero, but it doesn't really evoke much from me. The guy we know is justifiably cynical and really hasn't done much to get me to sympathize with Humanity. What parts are in his perspective do show that he's lost people because of his actions, but it doesn't feel like it matters. You lost your daughter, you created the method that killed about 99.9% of your species and rushed the death of your planet, you have personally overseen the death of thirty-four worlds while still caring enough to learn the local languages. Those are big points, but it doesn't feel like it mattered from reading it.
I also find how their numbers worked to be confusing. Early on it seems to point that there is a very finite amount of them, a mere thousandth of their original species, with only one way to gain more of them. A very costly method that may or may not be dictated by luck at that. Then there are supposedly trapped souls in a purgatory of sorts where they live out their final moments until someone decides to build a body for them, and from what I understand there are the souls of countless worlds in it rather than the souls of humans.
Socio-Economics. Not my best subject (Next to no experience with it) but the biggest thing I take away from it here is that this is a collapsing America. There are some people who see problems with our energy use, but the overwhelming majority don't care. Our "oil" is running out but we are actually ramping up in the use of it for the sake of convenience. When it hits people that we're running out of it, instead of agreeing to cut down on "oil" use to preserve the stores available, they demand that we turn to alternative methods of gathering it, like frakking. It's a death by decadence, as those who don't understand the consequences attempt to cling to their comforts and end up damning their futures.
Humanity was screwed, the government in place was not one that could survive these conditions. The balance of power was too fragile, the public was poorly informed of how things were, and the purveyors did not have enough authority to maximize their profits. Logically, any threats to the effective yield of the planet (Changelings for example) should have been removed as soon as it is noticed. The purveyors carried the weight of their entire species on their shoulders, and shackling them to non-action is a mistake.
Now, potential. The Equestrians are possibly the best option available for introducing to the void. To start with, they can create an entirely new governing body or reforge the one they have over time since the Alicorns are (realistically) Ritual Sacrifices for the future. Even ignoring that there is a method of creating new Alicorns, there are three of them which can create a star, so energy (In the short term at least) is not a factor. Their own planet is not yet dead, so they can use some of the ones that aren't Voided to seed planets with low yield as a sort of frontier initiative. (There is a guaranteed way to bring someone over to the Void, but it's expensive apparently. Unsure if this works for Voiding them) They can do the same with other species as well. Basically, they could be better at the whole "Running from Entropy" thing and also save other sapient species on a more regular level. This would depend on some assistance from the MC to get started, but there is potential for a better system than what there was before, while also stopping them from dying out.
Huh. I expected him to look more... skeletal. ANd less like a rock. Still very cool tho.
