One day, Princess Twilight and Spike woke up to find Ponyville plagued with a plethora of puzzles. What could be causing all of the ponies' puzzling problems? Why is everyone speaking in riddles and brain-teasers?

"A true princess always puts the needs of others first, Spike!"

Professor Layton-style puzzling in the land of ponies. Interactive!

Chapters (14)
Comments ( 138 )

warehouse A should have shady clouds
warehouse b should have fluffy clouds
warehouse c should have rainy clouds
warehouse d should have thundery clouds

If I got the solution right, I want to see Lyra's house. If that is not an option, I want to see Fluttershy's Cottage.

Now for my opinion. I like this idea! Mixing puzzles and story in an interactive format sounds wait for it twenty percent cooler. Sorry, I had to say that. In my Favorite's folder now.

Zocarik's got it, although you can also reverse the order, with thundery in A, rainy in B, fluffly in C, and shady in D.

Thundery affects both fluffy and shady, but not rainy, so that forces thundery to be in A or D to keep it isolated and only touch rainy, which goes next to it. Rainy messes up shady, so shady then goes in the other corner, with fluffy between it and rainy. The fluffy is not affected by either, so all is well.

The animated versions are still pending, but, sadly, that is

This puzzle is now worth 13/15 bits.

Solution has been moved to next chapter.

Twilight Sparkle's Saddlebags:
Hint Coins: 3
Bits: 13
Mysteries: None yet

2268590 Now I feel dumb. If that was not the solution, I have no clue what it could be. I cannot put shady near thunder or rain, so it can only be next to fluffy. That locks shady in a corner (A or D) with Fluffy right next to it. Fluffy cannot be near thunder, so thunder has to be in the warehouse on the complete other end from shady so that it is not near fluffy (which has to be next ot shady to protect shady from rain or thunder). That leaves rainy in the last spot. So the order I gave, or its mirror image are the only two options I can see, unless there are other conditions I did not notice.

I do not want to spend a hint coin.

:derpyderp1: I just don't know what went wrong.
(GAH! Why can't I stop it with the quips from the show?)

2268733
Don't sweat the hint coins, since it's been solved. You're right in that the order you gave would keep the clouds intact. What you missed was that there was a more efficient way of storing them (the aforementioned reverse order) so that the clouds RD uses most are slightly closer to Ponyville.

Go with Zocarik's ideas for next location, if applicable, otherwise, perhaps a cup of coffee and a snack at Sugarcube Corner will help Twi get the brain going for all these puzzles.

I knew there was an element that I was missing when there were two "safe" answers to the puzzle; I was so intent on finding a working answer, I neglected the efficiency. The only reason I mentioned the reverse was in case there really WERE two answers.

Silly me.

Okay, Lyra's place is next on the agenda!

Rephrased the riddle for clarity.

Given the rephrase, I have deleted your guess. Please take a look at the new phrasing.

A is the correct lyre with the new conditions. B has too many strings and C lacks the curls at the ends.

If I got it right, Sugarcube Corner is the next destination.

Should I leave the next riddle unsolved so others can try for the solution?

Solution removed and put in next chapter beginning.
The next riddle will be slightly delayed anyway, as the art for it is barely a quarter done. Also, it's a main plot location, so the chapter should have some more meat to it as well.

2270234 If you have something special planned for the Corner, and you want it to happen at a specific time/after a specific number of riddles, go with Vinyl Scratch's place. I don't mind.

Still love this story.

2270274

Actually, the Corner is Puzzle 02 -- I just need to finish the image. As for Vinyl's place? Nopony home right now (because the riddle I had planned isn't anywhwere NEAR ready).

2270362 Okay. Pinkie's place it is! I was just saying that if Sugarcube Corner was inconvienent for you, I would not mind somplace else.

2270234 Arrgh, I'm good at puzzles, but they got solved before I could comment... Oh, well... Life happens, I guess. :ajsleepy:

2271249
Yeah... It was a factor of when I updated.

2271286 Aye, true true... But don't worry, I don't blame you.

Assuming equal pieces for Mr. and Mrs. Cake, the twins, and Pinkie, each needs to be 5 units, with 2 of the more prevalent decoration, one of the other, and two blank squares. There you go!

If Carousel Botique is across town, then the marketplace where the Apple Family has eir booth should be on the way...

And, considering I'm posting the picture off a Tumblr, I wonder if anyone can reverse navigate and deduce who I am...

Wow, you're fast!
Fun fact: There are at least three other solutions, as this one differs from my planned solution in two areas. I could fix that by shifting two gumdrops up one space each, but I think I'll leave it as is, because I like that you found a solution I hadn't planned for.

Marketplace is the next destination!

I will difeat this riddle by having twilight use a memory spell to help rainbow dash remember which sign goes where its that easy and cheaty I guess but oh well

And, dammit, 2271937 beat me to it! I was gonna suggest somepony else, but AJ's fine too, I guess... :facehoof::ajsleepy: She would be the logical next stop, since it's on the way to the boutique.

2271998 Mine's different than yours, as well... Why can I never be first to see the chapter? Like, seriously. What the hell. :facehoof:

I just had come back from a shopping trip, finished putting away groceries, fed the cat, fed myself, and decided to log in for a moment. I guess it was just random luck finally tuning in first. I'll step back for a chapter or two, although I might jump in if everyone else is stumped...

2272072
It's like they're just refreshing the table of contents going "Is there a new puzzle yet? How 'bout now? Now?"
2272097
...or pure coincidence.
2272067
This makes a total of five possible solutions for this puzzle. Way to go, pones! I'm going to have to find a way to reward you all... Hmmm...

2272097 Eh, not complaining to or about you. It's just that in high school and below, whether it be a word problem or a mind puzzle, I was almost always the first to figure it out. Here's an easy example:

Doctor
Doctor

What does that mean, can you tell?

2272105 Yeah, srsly. I detest of puppy-guarding.

2272128
Careful, there. You could collapse the space-time continuum with that paradox.

S
T
ORE

:twilightsheepish: oh a mystery I simply love mysteries
Twilight, ever since you broke the fourth wall to fix pinkie's mouth, you have been going nonstop as it is!

:twilightsheepish:Sorry Claw I can't help it I love a good puzzle

You want a puzzle here's this one (How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood)

:twilightblush:Oh that's easy 42 duh everypony knows that:twilightsmile:

Twilight stop being so smart, everypony is glaring at you

Sorry claw its my nature to be this way

2272134 Aye, told ya that one was easy! I was the only one to get it, though not surprising since it was only 4th grade. Now, gimmie a minute to figure that one out.

2272139
Actually, there is an answer to the woodchuck question. It is, itself, another tongue-twister (though not as smooth):
"A woodchuck would chuck as much as he could if a woodchuck could chuck wood."

*updates user page for first time* There, now folks will know who I am, if they care.

And the shopping I needed to do was much farther than the corner store...

Note: I've stopped describing Spike finding Hint Coins. He finds one per chapter. We've pretty much covered that. Just take it as read.

First ever post on this site. And it's for a layton crossover....nice!:moustache::moustache:

Now then....Snips and Snails are our culprits.

Even: Snails, Diamond Tiara, Dinky Doo
Odd: Snips, Silver Spoon

Snails, Dinky Doo, and Diamond Tiara have an even amount of letters in their name, so if the spell was cast correctly, they should be telling the truth. However, their statements cannot all be true (dinky and snips did it, but diamond tiara says snips is innocent while dinky says she was the only one who even touched it). Therefore, the spell was miscast, if cast at all, and the odd letter names should be telling the truth.

So, assuming the spell was even cast, snips and silver spoon are telling the truth. The result? Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara are innocent, as is Dinky (unless she used her magic...?). So, Snips and Snails are guilty.

Oh, and Davenport is telling the truth, since his name had an odd amount of letters.

How about a trip to Rarity's, then? We're heading there anyway....

2277302
Nicely reasoned! Davenport did not, in fact, cast the spell on himself, just on the foals.

Solution:
i.imgur.com/Ee2ysrS.png

Well done unscrambling that particular mess!

Since Davenport miscast the spell, only Snips and Silver Spoon were telling the truth, exonerating Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon, and Dinky Doo.

The statements "Snips is completely innocent" and "I'm innocent", being lies, point out the guilty parties: Snips and Snails.

Maybe Davenport should leave the spellcasting to the unicorns.

Next Stop: Carousel Boutique.
Warm up your image editors, ponies, it's another draw-on-the-lines puzzle!

Oh, hey, you forgot Colgate's House/Dentistry, and Time Turner's Clock Tower. The clock would make for an awesome puzzle, I'm sure! :rainbowkiss:

2278337
I will quite gladly come up with puzzles for them and add them to the "map" as soon as I do! Thanks for the suggestions!

Not a single guess so far, huh? Hm. I may have to rework this puzzle a little. :applejackunsure:

Maybe it's just timing. I can see the answer staring at me. I'm sorry I didn't get to see the insane version.

I'll give everyone else 12 hours to find it before jumping in.

Considering the site loading difficulties, I'll lay off answering until tomorrow morning, my time. The original version still has the one visual cue that I needed to find the solution; however, the original and updated versions have one other difference - the pattern help in the upper right.

2285168
Yeah, I thought that might be part of the problem: the original image's sketch was a general guide but not anywhere near an exact match.

Okay, time for a new chapter.

With all the problems popping up everywhere, disrupting everypony's lives, I'm surprised there isn't a huge crowd outside of Town Hall, forcing Twilight and company to stop and see what's happening...
