Yes. The Cases refer to the rules of the internet, and the story continuity doesn't place the Rules in the original order, often with good reason. For instance, the five Anonymous rules will be spread out, letting the story expand more between them.
I would be an interesting challenge to write the cases in the same order as the original rules, but it just doesn't work out with the way I have in my head.

I'm glad everyone likes this story so much... it was one of those "I'll just do it for the amusement" and everyone seems to love it. And if they don't, well, they don't seem to take it out on this story, which is good for me!

It's not that they're being trolls, it's that they've been told by their princesses that Twilight is going to be sent through a rigorous set of tests. Even Twilight knows this to some extent, as in the original letter from Princess Celestia, tasking her with "researching" these events.
Things are changing slowly--the detective never solves the case on the first clue.

I am starting to think that when Twilight finishes all these cases and learns the truth, she is going to unleash Pinkie on them, while Pinkie is hyped up on five or six energy drinks. Either that, or Twilight will utilize her knowledge of magic to hit them with magical pranks on a scale that will scare Discord.
