The powerful witch Thaegan and her thirteen children were all killed in the righteous fight for Deltora... granted, they weren't fighting to free it. However, like in many other universes and worlds, some beings don't simply vanish on death.
Now, Thaegan and her children find themselves in the midst of a massive nest of shape-shifting creatures and must figure out how to deal with the circumstances. Are they welcome in the hive? How will her kids take this turn of events? How will the hive's unique resident take to having new guests? And what will they do, now that they have come back to life?

I added a little more to the section you mentioned, hopefully clearing it up. Near the end it still gets a bit confusing, but that's part of the joke since even Hot and Tot aren't sure who said what by that point.
The chapter was supposed to be short, to be honest. I planned on having a short chapter for each pair of Thaegan's children, ending with one chapter for Ichabod with the Devourer and one for Thaegan and Chrysalis. After that, I intended to "get on with it" so to speak and actually advance some of the plot: right now is mostly where the Slice of Life tag comes from as we watch how Thaegan's children are dealing with living in the hive.
