I find the story well written, but the fact that it rewrites scenes from the show itself kills it a bit for me.
Also the story was a bit short and this was mainly because you rewrote some scene and thus didn't have the choice of how long you could stretch it.

Sadly, its my belief that Celestia sent them because she didn't want to risk the lives of ponies. I've always seen Celestia as the root of the racism issue in the country. After all, if she saw it as evil, she would have fixed it long ago, yet racism is endemic, even among the school system. So it makes sense to me that when given a choice between sending ponies into a lethal situation and sending a squad of foreign nationals, she sends the griffons/minotaur/humans. Oh and sacrificing yourself, or saving someone who see you with hatred or distain, doesn't change their view of you. It just makes them right.
It's still a dam good story.
