Okay, let me explain where this came from real quick. Backstory time.
So as my present to myself, I bought the id Complete Pack on Steam. (I’m a huge id Software fanboy, by the by. What, you thought I called myself ‘Doom Pie’ for nothing?) So naturally I’ve been playing an unhealthy amount of Quake III recently.
As I was beating the ever-loving crap out of Uriel in Tier 5, I couldn’t help but think of narrations for every little thing. Many of the descriptions you see in this story, as well as two or three entire scenes, were thought up as I was playing. Typically, when that sort of thing happens, it’s my brain telling me to write a story.
Here’s the interesting part: the first 2,500~ words of this story, I don’t remember writing. I had a wicked bad cold when I started it and I was in a trance from having played so many hours straight of Quake III. The next day, I honestly went through half of the day thinking the story was a dream or a half-formed idea until I checked my Documents folder to see that I had the damn thing 2/3 the way done. After reading it (because a lot of it was foreign to me) I realized that I really like the direction it was taking, so I finished it. It just ended up being a pony fic because… well, I find that I love writing about ponies and all of the neat challenges that go with it (like the harness thing, that was a pain to work out in my head) so I apologize if this doesn’t seem specifically related to the show. But it is about ponies.
So that’s that. This is definitely a one-shot. I mean, if it became super popular I would consider writing one for each Tier leader (in order being Sarge, Hunter, Klesk, Anarki, Uriel, and Xaero, if I remember correctly) but the little self doubt that remained after the Great Ego Boost of ’08 tells me that that probably won’t happen.
Anyway. Done rambling. Any and all comments are appreciated, seriously. I love talking to people. And though I consider myself a good pre-reader, even I make mistakes, so feel free to point out any errors – especially look out for non-pony language, as I have yet to get used to that.
