The scene with Applebloom and Obvious Reference was a deliberate inversion of the Monty Python skit (similar to how Monty Python was a deliberate inversion of its predecessors, or how the Alternative Comedy movement, eg Rik Mayall, was a deliberate inversion of the innuendo laden class comedies that came before them)
