A Sherlockian Brony

Just a Brony who loves anything crime fiction...

Sequels1

T

Based on the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Sgt. Sprinkles

Being a reprint from the reminiscences of John H. Watcolt, M.D., late of the Wonderbolt Medical Department

In glancing over my notes of the hundreds of cases in which I have during the years studied the methods of my celebrated friend, Sherclop Pones, I find many tragic, some comic, a large number merely strange, but none commonplace; for, working as he did rather for the love of his art than for the acquirement of wealth, he refused to associate himself with any investigation which did not tend towards the unusual, and even the fantastic. Of all these varied cases, however, I cannot recall any which presented more singular features than that which was associated with the infamous case of Pinkie’s Cupcakes. The events in question occurred in the early days of my association with Pones, when we were sharing rooms as bachelors in Baker Street. It is possible that I might have placed them upon record before, but a promise of secrecy was made at the time, from which I have only been freed during the last month by Princess Twilight Sparkle upon her coronation as the Ruler of the Equestrian Monarchy, desiring for this particular case in which I am about to narrate to be at last be known to general public (much to the Caballus Club’s objection.) It is perhaps as well that the facts should now come to light, for I have reasons to know that there are widespread rumours as to the disappearance of Rainbow Dash of loyal reputation, which tend to make the matter even more terrible than the truth.

I see........
Good work on the references to past cases!

If this is based off of Cupcakes, then shouldn't there be a dark tag?

There are some certain flaws here and there, but I quite like it. Keep it up

Good sir, as a big fan of Sir A.C.D's orginal Holmes stories, I must say you've captured his style of writing in your story quite well. And as for the story, I say it is quite interesting and I look forward to its progress

I like how you ponified characters like Watson to "Watcolt," and Mycroft to "Myclop." That's pretty clever.

In case you didn't notice, "A Study of Magic" is a direct reference to the first ever Holmes book in which Sir A.C.D ever wrote—that is "A Study in Scarlet."

What had been once the hot-pink form of Pinkamena Diane Pie, was now, as it seemed, of a midnight black. Upon a closer inspection, I had noted that, whatever was the thing before us, it had no longer been covered by a fur coat, but rather what seemed like some sort of shell of a bug. I may add, in fact, that the creature bore very little resemblance to an actual equine but that more of a beetle and a fly

Its eyes were that of a fly’s—dichoptic eyes give the feeling of unnerving discomfort. It had the horn and wings of a rhinoceros, complete with a rounded convex back, that seemed to house its wings.

It appeared to carnivorous, for it had the teeth of a vicious cat. Its hooves were poked with holes. So many were they that if one were to lay his eyes upon such a fiend, doing so would trigger one’s trypophobia.

These suggest a lot...is Pinkie a Changeling? Quite the twist!

“ The Professor.”

I haven't read the original Sherlock stories, but I heard that Moriarty was some kind of Professor. Is he somehow behind this? Cool!

The reveal is a good one at best...looking forward on how the story goes and perhaps an explanation on how you foreshadowed the twist...and one on how could Moriarty fit into the plot.

A rather delightful twist, good sir! And with what seems to be the addition of a ponified James Moriarty in it, I shall watch the story's progress from here with an even greater amount of interest

Be assured of the latter...as well as the former. And thanks!

So, basically, this is an aftermath of Cupcakes of r something? And you ponified Sherlock to solve RD's murder? Odd but cool concept...

Ha! I knew there were Changelings! I feel like Holmes himself with my deduction skills :moustache: The story takes place during the season 2 finale eh? Good chapter though

So wait...if the Changelings are involved, what was their purpose to deliberately parody Cupcakes?

You dear sir have earned an applause. I always enjoyed Sir A.C.D's works as a child and to see it not only well written, but also kept in the spirit of Sherlock, you've have my respect. I will surely be keeping an eye on this one and future stories you may come up with.

Why, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I too am a big Sherlockian

Yep, that's Cupcakes.

YES!! I WAS RIGHT!! I WAS ON THE RIGHT TRACK!!! 😭😭😭

the wierd bit is I actually had a strange dream about a sherlock inspired fic, and now here it is.
I have been on this website far too long.

11576767
Ha, glad to sort of bring that dream into fruition

Who is Moriarty in this universe?

11583538
I haven't explicitly revealed his ponified identity yet, but he's only known through his alias as "The Professor"

im absolutely in love with this story. the idea of a pony sherlock holmes story is so charming and I think the execution here is practically perfect. i'll admit I havent read the books themselves, but I do recognize the distinctive late 19th century writing style that mustve come with them, and its a joy to read through. major kudos from me to you <3

Ayo, this made my day; thank you
I tried to write it on a pastiche level of Conan Doyle's semi-romantic, semi-concise diction, and I'm glad that you liked it.

11324487
I grew up with books on the world's greatest detective, so I hope you can make this a good balance between Sir A. Doyle and pony, which from my own meager attempts at such crossovers can be a challenge.

11314973
So does your version maybe have a teensy bit of fondness for a certain purple librarian?

118212
Glad to know a fellow Sherlockian ! As this was my first shot at a Holmes x FiM crossover, do expect the natural blemishes here and there; but I made sure to regard an intricate equilibrium of the two medias in which we are both fond of. Hope you enjoy it :pinkiehappy:

11821372
I don't quite remember explicitly stating that Holmes/Pones upholds an admiration towards dear Ms. Sparkle; but as they are both HUGE nerds, it is but inevitable for the sleuth to express some level of respect and reverence :twilightsheepish:...

“They always fill me with a certain horror. It is my belief, Watcolt, founded upon my experience, that the lowest and vilest alleys of Canterlot do not present a more dreadful record than does the smiling and beautiful countryside.”

Was it Hounds of the Baskervilles that this sentiment was brought up by Holmes, or was it another case?

11830437
Nah...it's from "The Copper Beeches," where Holmes and Watson visited the countryside (near Winchester, I believe) to solve a case.

Glad you could spot the easter egg!
