This story is a sequel to Flurry Heart's Story: Dream of Alicornication

Flurry and her friends get a chance to vacation in Southern Equestria with Spike, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Mrs. Cake. After meeting Somnambula, they are immediately thrown into adventure and peril when she finds a map that leads them to a cave in the desert mountains. Inside is an ancient temple where Somnambula is to meet an "old friend" as the map describes. What they don't know is this temple is booby-trapped and this mysterious correspondent is not here to be Somnambula's friend at all...

Inspired by the official show, this is part of a fan-made sequel series I created called "Flurry Heart's Story", which documents the adventures of Flurry Heart as she makes friends and faces new and familiar villains, some of which may still be redeemable.

Next story: Tirek vs Scorpan

Time for an adventure with Somnambula herself, starting off strong with a mysterious invitation from an equally mysterious source. This is gonna be interesting, especially since we don't just have Flurry and her new friends, but their mothers along for the ride as well. It's nice to see Mrs. Cake get a chance to come along, though I wonder how she'll cope if this turns into the kind of harrowing adventure it always ends up as when any of the Mane 6 or those connected with them are involved.

Also, looks like Stormy's caught what Spike caught when he fell in love with Rarity. Can't blame him: Somnambula is quite a pretty pony. I just hope the little guy doesn't do anything too stupid to try and impress her.

On another note, the title brings not only Moses and his contentions with Pharaoh to mind, but the Plagues song from Prince of Egypt ('Thus saith the Lord'). Such an epic song.

Stormy hadn’t spoken a single word for he was too busy staring at Somnambula. He had never seen a mare so beautiful as her. Not even thinking about how grown up she was compared to him, he was already smitten. His eyes and mouth had been wide open the entire time the others were talking, but he finally blinked them and revealed heart-shaped irises, while tiny pink hearts started floating out of his head.

“Wow…guys, she’s…she’s sooooo pretty,” said the enamored little colt.

Oh no lol I kind of figured that would happen the innocent young Crush

“Hehehe. You’re too late, Dash. All it takes is one look and he’s sold,” Spike told Rainbow Dash.

“Yeah, you would know, Mister Rarity’s-Number-One-Fanboy.” Applejack teased as she poked his belly.

Oh yeah we all remember how much you had a crush on Rarity when you're very young lol

Ok as I said before this is a pretty interesting starts and after that event with cozy glow everybody need some break and it look like they're going to the southern equestrian where's Somnambula lives and it looks like it's Just flurry heart and her friends Rainbow dash Applejack spike and mrs cake on a little vacation once they got there they met up with Somnambula and oh boy stormy has a little crush on her just like good times with Spike but anyway it looks like she found a note and apparently it was from a thousand years ago and whatever who that was wanted to give it to her to find it so it looks like they're going on a treasure hunt I wonder how this will go guess we'll find out next time

Alright, the start of another adventure, and we get an appearance from the Element of Hope, Somnambula, herself! This seems like an interesting quest. I don't know what lies at the end of this "treasure hunt", but if it is someone from Somnambula's past the first guess I would have is probably Prince Hisan.

Also, just like how Spike did with Rarity, Storm has love at first sight with Somnambula. Also just like Spike and Rarity, she is way out of the poor kid's league, but I bet his antics of trying to impress her will be entertaining, and hopefully will at least earn him her friendship.

“Oh dear. Take it easy there, Casanova,” Rainbow Dash laughed, “She’s a little bit outa’ your league.”

“No Mommy, she’s perfect…” Stormy said, continuing to stare.

“Hehehe. You’re too late, Dash. All it takes is one look and he’s sold,” Spike told Rainbow Dash.

“Yeah, you would know, Mister Rarity’s-Number-One-Fanboy.” Applejack teased as she poked his belly.

Even the characters see the similarities to Spike and Stormy's crushes, even Spike himself!

“Sorry about Storm Streak over there,” Flurry whispered to Somnambula while trying not to laugh. “He’s the youngest.”

“Hehe, that is all right. I do tend to turn some stallions’ heads,” Somnambula giggled.

Somnambula's sexy and she knows it. You know what they say when ya got it.

“Hey Storm, what’s with the hat?” Pound asked.

“It’s called looking awesome, Pound! By the way, how do I look Somnambula?”

“Hehe, it becomes you, little Storm Streak.” Somnambula giggled as she patted him on the head.

“She…she complimented and touched me…”

Oh boy. If Stormy is lucky, maybe Somnambula will give him a friendly kiss on the cheek like Rarity did for Spike.

If there won't be any "Prince of Egypt" shout-outs here *looks at the title* - I'll be a little bit disappointed. Still, I liked what you did with Cozy in last episode, so I hope this will be nice, too.

I would think Somnambula would have a husband by now or… unless had one back over thousand years ago :applejackunsure:

Can’t wait for chapter 2!

11153297
I'd like to think she wouldn't leave her husband behind like that, especially if they had kids, so I'm guessing she's single, though I always thought her and Flash Magnus should get together. For now, putting Stormy in Spike's place in the show like he was with Rarity I thought would be awfully cute. :3

This is an awsome start of an adventure.

A pretty good start to this tale, also seems Stormy got bitten by the love bug that bit Spike all those years ago! :rainbowlaugh:

The riddle they found sounds interesting, wonder who could be behind it though? :rainbowhuh:

11153338

I agree with Flash since I thought the same. I do love the whole spike rarity thing you got here so it’s a lot of fun and can’t wait for more funny moments

11153338

though I always thought her and Flash Magnus should get together.

You and me both. That's one of my personal favorite couples. That actually does make me wonder a bit, if it doesn't conflict with any ideas you currently have, what if one future story has something like Flash Magnus and Somnambula are revealed to now be a couple together, or plan to get married soon, and Storm Streak needs to deal with the heartbreak of his first crush being with someone else.

11153619
Lol, i had thought about that actually. XD

11153832
Wow, I guess great minds think alike. Now I'm hoping you make that a story in the future. But, first things first.

A great start to this new episode of Flurry Heart's Story.

I like the idea of Flurry and her friends and their mothers (except Flurry's, but Cadence's absence is more than understandable given her job) and Spike going on a vacation, and the location they chose is an interesting one too. Also, I won't claim to have been the member of this site who read the most fics, but this is the first time I remember reading about Mrs. Cake going on a trip or an adventure of any kind, so I give you extra points for originality from that alone!

Seeing Somnambula is nice too. As I said elsewhere, she's one of my favorite Pillars and I wish we could have seen more of her, and this is doing a great job of showing more of her so far.

That said, Stormy certainly seems to be the one who's happiest at her presence. XD His sudden burst of puppy love is unexpected, but believable, and you're doing a good job of portraying it as endearing. I like Somnambula's reaction to it also. She takes it with humor and is not 'dismissively rude', which I feel is both true to her character and nice. As long as she doesn't lead him on or use it to feed her ego (neither of which I think she will do) I don't think there will be reasons to complain.

I like how everyone else handles the matter also. They rib Stormy about it, but they don't mock him, and that's nice to see. Also, kudos to Spike for being able to joke about his own feelings for Rarity. It shows he's moved on and can look back with both a recognition of the issue and not be weighed down by it.

Still... back on 'reasons to complain'... maybe 'complain' isn't the right word (although the mothers might complain soon that their vacation got ruined), but given the contents of that message, 'concern' certainly is, because any old friend of Somnambula who didn't go into limbo with her is likely to be lying about either being old, a friend, or both, unless there is some form of stronger magic at play. But we've seen at least two variations of magic that can leave ponies suspended in time (King Sombra's curse on the Crystal Empire and the Pillars' time in Limbo) so a third one isn't impossible.

Whatever the answers turns out to be, though, I look forward to reading it!

11154243

Thanks for the feedback! :)

I wanted to still pay attention to the Mane Six in this story as often as I can and when I thought I could have their mothers tag along for this one, I figured it would be the best opportunity to give Mrs. Cake some love cuz she didn't really get enough of it in the official show.

Yeah, it was maddening that we didn't get a lot of her in the show, so I hope this helps!

Hehe, thanks! I was really excited to reveal that Stormy develops a crush on her. When I thought of it, I knew it would be a really silly and cute concept and it seems to work so far with the readers! And yeah, Somnambula doesn't strike me as the type of pony who would be rude about it. She takes it rather well.

The other characters will still tease him about it a bit, but he'll either admit they're right or just ignore them while staring and they roll their eyes. XD

Yeah, it is definitely a question of what will happen next. What they come upon will be revealed in the next chapter, but the answers to what happened will be later on.

11154320
Thank you for the reply. :)

Again, as I said above, I look forward to seeing what happens next!

Well, now, things are starting to get more interesting, not to mention dangerous. The second the giant life-like statue was shown, I had a feeling that it was Anatankha, somehow turned to stone. It looks like this temple was specifically enchanted to respond to Somnambula's presence, and now her old nemesis is freed. What sort of revenge does she have in store for her, I wonder? And what's going to happen to the others, who were unfortunate enough to fall into the same trap?...

“Somnambula, you’re such a pretty mare…uh…you’ve got nice hair…” Stormy started saying. “Somnambula, your coat is orange just like a…um…what rhymes with orange?”

I don't even think there's anything rhymes with orange

Oh boy this is not good at all okay so it looks like Somnambula and the others travel through the chamber and whoever the one who sent out that letter if we really wanted just only for her but what they found was a giant statue of a Sphynx name Anatankha the one that we heard from the story back in season 7 and she was about to tell us a story but until then apparently somebody set up a trap and that statue wasn't just a statue it was really her they all try to get out of here but the doors closed on them and there's no Escape and it looks like it's between Somnambula and Anatankha just like old times sake now how in the world are they going to get some stuff out of there I guess we'll find out next time

Oh boy, that sure escalated quickly!!!:twilightoops:

Hope the gang turn things around in the next chapter, also on a lighter tone it was fun seeing Spike give Stormy some romance pointers! :moustache::heart:

They tried to run through the door, but some black magic had already caused it to close. Thankfully, there were plenty of pillars right before the walls for them to hide behind, but still no exits.

11177210
Yeah, Spike's a pro at it. XD

Yikes, that sure escalated quickly. They go from a fun treasure hunt to discovering that the same Sphinx Somnambula faced over a thousand years ago is still around. Also, the reveal that she has a name, Anatankha, and that was the person you were alluding too previously, that was a surprise.

Honestly though, they should have seen that something was up way sooner. When the answer to the riddle Somnambula answered to get them inside was "revenge" that should have been a big red flag.

“Pssst, Stormy, if you want any tips on how to win a girl’s heart, they really love jewelry and poems,” Spike whispered into Stormy’s ear.

“Poetry?” Stormy asked with his ears perking up.

“Spike, don’t teach my son poetry or he’s gonna start sounding like Zecora around the house,” Rainbow Dash teased.

“Somnambula, you’re such a pretty mare…uh…you’ve got nice hair…” Stormy started saying. “Somnambula, your coat is orange just like a…um…what rhymes with orange?”

“Hehe, too late. He’s hooked,” Pound laughed as everyone joined him.

On one hand, Stormy's crush is still hilarious with him willing to try just about anything to impress Somnambula, and Spike trying to help him with some romantic advice is sweet since he went through a similar thing with Rarity. On the other hand though, that didn't exactly work for Spike either since he doesn't seem to be with Rarity, so chances are it won't work for Storm either.

11177344
Yup, I'm happy to finally reveal that I am using the Sphinx for this story and that is who "Anatankha" is.

As for Stormy, there will be quite a few little funny quips with him trying to impress Somnambula in this. And yeah, he's obviously not going to wind up with her because of their age, but that was Spike's problem too. Doesn't mean Somnambula won't be sweet on him like Rarity was to Spike though.

Well... that happened.

I had the feeling Anatankha might be the sphynx from early on, but I confess I was wondering why the villager wouldn't have referred to her by name in the story if that was the case. The answer you provided works well, and even echoes a real world belief that I heard people had about bears on how you couldn't refer to them by their name or they would show up before the speaker. Unfortunately, I don't think not saying her name would have kept Anatankha from showing up... but that's not a concern for right now.

I will say that I'm not too worried about the heroes - given how powerful Flurry Heart and Spike showed they were even as babies, it's possible, if not likely, that if they decide to cut loose Anatankha would get more than what she bargained for. That said, cutting loose in such tight quarters will be dangerous to their friends, so it makes sense they'd try to avoid it. Of course, they could just try to escape, but it's also true that leaving a dangerous sphynx to her own devices is not good on a long-term basis. Hopefully the Magic of Friendship (the metaphorical one, that is) will have some sort of an effect this time.

On a more cheerful front, Stormy keeps being both funny and endearing in his crush, and it's still being nice to see more of Mrs. Cake on an adventure. I can only hope it won't end badly despite how much room there is for it to do so.

All in all, a nice new part of this episode! Though even as things are, I can't help but see a disturbing pattern. In Elements Assemble, the Legion of Doom was depetrified by an unknown force. In Villains Anonymous, Sendak said he was petrified and later released. And now Anatankha manages to bypass a sphynx's natural lifespan by staying petrified for centuries.

All in all... it's quite the worrisome pattern. And given that Anatankha only was de-petrified when Somnambula showed up, someone had to be helping her. That itself, given what was shown with Cozy Glow at the end of Dream of Alicornication, only makes things even worse.

From the looks of it, things are building up to something, and it makes me quite anxious.

That said, I am definitely also eager to see how everything turns out!

11178158
Well don't forget that Anatankha can take away a pegasus' ability to fly so who knows what else she's capable of. There are explanations for how she's able to gain the upper hand in the next few chapters.

and good observation about the Trio and Sendak being turned to stone but then released by some mysterious entity, but notice how when Anatankha was released, she didn't ask any questions and she already knew Somnambula was in there even though she didn't see her right after being released...

11178245
Good point on Anatankha's abilities. I hadn't been thinking of that.

I will say that I personally would guess those abilities have their limits - namely, they'd be too weak to deal with an adult alicorn or a very large dragon, or on a higher tier, Discord and the Elements of Harmony. That said, I know that Flurry Heart is still a filly, Spike is still relatively small as far as dragons go, Discord likely cannot be reached for assistance, and the Elements of Harmony aren't around, so that puts a lot of 'safety measures' off the table. Perhaps it doesn't instantly hand victory over to the other side, but it definitely can make a win harder.

(And on a side note, I hope Anatankha is quite above average as far as sphinxes go, because if every other sphinx is as powerful as her, that could lead to quite some trouble if enough of them rally against the ponies. That said, I do remember from the previous chapter that the sphinex and the poniess are at peace now... so who knows, maybe the other sphinxes can knock some sense into Anatankha if it comes to that.)

As for the stone element... I did notice the exact detail you mention, but I didn't make that connection until you pointed it out. The best I can say is that Anatankha may have known she'd be released from stone only when Somnambula showed up (and bringing Discord back up again, I hope she was unconscious like the Trio rather than awake and aware like him), but that still raises the question of how she'd know, unless her transformation into stone was done by her own paw and she deliberately planned things so that she'd only wake up when/if Somnambula returned, which itself would make her experience different from the Trio's and Sendak's.

This is certainly raising even more questions... but it certainly is also making me even more eager to see what happens next!

Aw, sweet lil' Stormy. Sorry for not checking this out sooner, it got caught up in my Read Later list!

Oh no!! Somny!

11181188
He's so fun to write for! :3

It's ok, there's only one new chapter after this, but hopefully I get Chapter 3 done soon too.

Oh no!!! The kids!!! And Stormy's hat!!

11193886
Yeah, Stormy's madder than a wet hen now!

11193890
That sphinx doesn't know what's coming to her!

Damn, things went from bad to worst! :twilightoops:

Really hoping it turns around next chapter cause our heroes could sure use it! :moustache:

As they rushed through a corridor, they noticed holes in the walls. The walls began shooting small green blobs of a sticky material. Thankfully everyone was running quick enough that the blobs didn’t hit them in time, but Spike got one stuck to his foot and was unable to move. He tried pulling with all his might, but it did no good, so he blew fire at the blob until it melted away and his foot was free. He rushed forward to catch up to the others under a door that was starting to close. Spike dove just in time before the door hit the ground. Unfortunately Stormy’s hat had fallen off in all the commotion and was crushed under the door.

Green slime just like those things back in My Little Pony new generation when they shoot green slime

Oh my gosh things got really bad really quickly so both Somnambula and Anatankha are duking it out while flurry heart and the others trying to find a way to get out of this situation but luckily what are the pillars broke off and hit the door creating a hole so they made the Sweet Escape dodging every traps and after running they finally made it to the top but Anatankha was already there and finally captured Somnambula and the other ponies but she didn't need them so she sent them away to the water and they were got swept away and things got worse the kids made at first but unfortunately Spike due to his size got stuck and got separated from the kids this is really not good how in the world are they going to find each other and Save Somnambula I guess we'll find out next time

Well, things have certainly escalated. Now Somnambula's been captured by her old nemesis, Stormy lost his precious headdress, and the kids have been separated from their parents, thanks (unfortunately) to Spike's girth.

11193905
Well it's gotta be stuff from over a 1000 years ago given that Anatankha clearly set this all up since she's the same age as she was when she last met Somnambula. Could be quite similar though.

11193921
Don't worry, they'll figure it out.

11193934
Oh, I've no doubt. Flurry and her friends are some clever and resourceful kids. It's just a sore blow for poor Stormy to see his crush get captured and to lose his new hat, and I'll bet this is one time Spike regrets becoming so 'well-rounded', lol

Oh no, Somnambula's been captured! They need to do something to save her! Unfortunately, the kids have been separated from the adults because Spike was too big to fit down the drain. That's embarrassing for him. I wonder if it is because of that incident he decided to get the body shape he ended up having in the finale?

Unfortunately Stormy’s hat had fallen off in all the commotion and was crushed under the door.

“My…my Somnambula hat…” he said with tears in his eyes.

Oh poor Stormy. Even if he didn't get it because of his crush, it sucks having something brand new ruined.

Well... one thing is for certain: Anatankha is playing for keeps. Between using the spell that prevents everyone from flying (rather than just the pegasi) and summoning that cage and then sending away everyone she doesn't have a direct grudge with, she clearly doesn't want to let anyone stop her from having her revenge. And she seems to be disturbingly powerful too. I do still think Celestia and Luna or Twilight and Cadence would be too much for her, but sadly none of them are around, and anyone who can already deal with Flurry Heart and Spike is powerful indeed.

That said, I'm liking how threatening she's being, and I worry for Somnambula being in her grasp. Hopefully the others will find a way to save her.

Alas, it seems that they have their own concerns, what with the adults getting separated from the children and Spike getting stuck on that drain hole and Mrs. Cake losing her snacks and Stormy losing his hat - all of which are bad things to happen, though not bad to the same extent. Also, on Stormy's hat, while it is a sad moment, kudos for the subversion of the traditional movie scene where the character somehow still manages to reach in and get the hat at the last moment. That was a good way to go 'against set expectations', so to speak.

On a more cheerful note, I laughed at Stormy calling Anatankha 'Anastasia'. That was a nice joke. :) I now wonder if there is a ponified version of that movie in Equestria...

Whether there is or not, though, it was another great chapter! I very much look forward to what will happen next!

11200954
Anatankha's definitely powerful, though I would like to think she'd have a rough time with Celestia or Luna, but she might be pretty close. She probably isn't aware of any of them being out there, or at least not as powerful and she probably still thinks Discord is still imprisoned in stone. I was legit thinking of having Discord show up towards the end, but he'll be playing a role in the next story and since he was in the last one, I didn't want to overuse him.

I actually hadn't noticed I went against that trope so good eye there! XD

Yeah, Stormy not being able to remember how to pronounce her name and just using some other name that sounds like it will be a running gag in this story. Actually that's going to be a running gag throughout this series. :3

11201967
I get you. Sometimes certain storytelling decisions need to be made. And for what it's worth, I do trust Flurry and the others to deal with her, but I do admit I worry about how they're going to do that.

Well... for what it's worth, meaning this in the best possible way, the hat element was still a good inclusion. :)

And oh, goodness... I now wonder how many other names Stormy will come up with for Anatankha, and how many she will take before she snaps "MY NAME IS ANATANKHA!".

Back in the cave, Rainbow Dash had figured out Anatankha’s spell had worn off and she could fly again. Hovering just above the concave floor, she continued pulling on Spike’s wing from above, but it did no good. Spike was getting impatient and was really worried about Flurry.

Okay Spike not to be rude or anything but I think you need to lose a couple of pounds buddy

“Not like I used to be. If I weren’t so fat we wouldn’t have lost the kids. Then again, I also wouldn’t have been able to protect Flurry from Scutellum, so I guess I should count my blessings,” Spike said, patting his belly.

Aww Spike don't feel bad buddy we didn't know this was going to happen

“Ah, so you’ve figured it out now. Yes, it was I. I cast a spell on myself so I would be around one day to meet my nemesis again.”

Wow that's a lot of risk because I'm just saying what if she's not around then you'll be waiting and waiting for nothing

“I followed you to Ponehenge and saw what you and your friends did to that Pony of Shadows. I could not decipher the wizard’s spell, so I took all of those talismans you left behind and placed them in the appropriate spots, hoping someone would one day find them all and use them to release you. I then set everything up so you would eventually find me, and find me you did.”

Wait a minute are you telling me that up to season 7 finale this Sphynx gather up those items that were left behind at the Stonehedge and took them to the location where the Maine six have to find those items wow
