Mockingbirb

A pony of mystery in the darkness. Or I forgot to take the lens cap off. (They/them is fine.)

T

To get out of a ticket for mouthing off to a cop, a human agrees to enter a 'diversion program.' It's supposed to teach conflict resolution skills and 'friendship.'

Turns out, it's a VR game set in Equestria. Or is it?

Some details have been "edited" away from any real life inspiration, to protect the innocent and the guilty alike.

(This story might qualify as a canon Optimalverse (FiO) story, because CelestAI has a good reason to at least temporarily welcome her guest into an "Equestria Girls" themed setting.)

This story is an entry in LoveandEdify's "Y/N x Main 6 Shipping Contest."

Delightful integration of EqG into FiO. It’s like a glimpse of what CelestAI could’ve done for humanity if she hadn’t gone full paper-clopper. Thank you for this.

Let me guess:

But at least one step that some people might think is implausibly fictional, isn't.

Nearly freezing (getting it really cool) the hard drive will reduce read errors by reducing circuitry cross-over interference.

Don't know about read errors, but I do know that cold makes things more conductive.

Freezing a hard drive may make it work one last time, but not very likely (it probably helps with a specific type of failure). Cold probably makes the oil thicker and shrinks the parts a bit, maybe that helps somehow. Of course this won't help if the drive had a head crash.

Sounds like the sort of program that would be helpful in real life. These days you got no problem getting access to helpful information, you just need someone with the smarts and processing power to sort through it to find what you need; like a job.

Good to see Equestria Girls in a Optimalverse story.

The idea is interesting, but the execution is way too self-aware. Also, a huge opportunity was missed here: girl was clearly disappointed to not be a quadrupedal pony which means she may have been using the system to provide immersive VR for what she herself couldn’t afford. That could have been used to reveal a self-destructive behavior.

In addition to that, there is NO REASON these characters should have appeared as human. If the company was commissioned to give driving lessons then hands would make sense however they would also have been sued for failing to provide the driver education that is expected of such courses.

Although "the execution is way too self-aware" is not by itself very usefully meaningful to me, I think

is a good story idea for either a different protagonist, or maybe a similar protagonist in a somewhat different stage of their life.

If you decide to write that story idea, please let me know so I can read it. It sounds interesting!

Why not this protagonist?

(Diversion Program With Optimal Anomalies)

I'm kind of disappointed that the acronym doesn't spell anything. Why doesn't it spell something?
