Oh it's okay, I didn't need to see clearly anyway, these tears are all just fine and dandy.

That aside, very well done. I Like the idea that Spike and Discord stayed friends throughout the ages, even past the death of their loved ones. I also like the idea of Discord just casually watching the new generation's antics with popcorn and 3d glasses.

Awww I hadn't intended to make this a sad fic! Maybe I should add a tag. Thanks for the fav! Glad you enjoyed it!

Oh it wasn't entirely sad, it was happy and hopeful, but I'm VERY prone to nostalgia, and that bit at the end made me almost break down crying because I am WEAK.

It's a great fic tho! <3

“It shouldn’t have been lost in the first place,” Discord scoffed. “If Twilight had bothered to—”

“Twilight was my sister, Discord,” Spike warned, his voice rumbled with anger.

Might just be my own biases coming into play, but Spike's retort here hit surprisingly hard. I liked your characterization of him and Discord overall, but that was probably my personal favorite moment.

Point being, I enjoyed this story a lot. Nicely done!

This was great. I always love it when Spike grows up all wise and whatnot. A fine contrast to the sometimes snotty nosed kid he was. Actually, Sunny running into Old Spike was the one thing I really wanted out of G5 but knew I'd never get. His banter with Discord was great. They genuinely sounded like two old war buddies who gathered at the grave of a squad mate who died way back when. I liked how both of them got "that button" pushed. Just a tiny reminder of how old they are.

The tone wasn't sad, or even bittersweet, really. I actually felt a touch of hope in the melancholy. Like Spike has accepted that his time in the spotlight has passed, and he's confident the new generation will live up to the legacy of he and his friends.

Great job, my dude! :ajsmug:

Thank you! I really wanted to capture their friendship overall, especially after so long but also to illustrate there was still sore spots. I'm glad you found the tone hopeful, as that was my intention, a passing of the torch kind of feel.

Glad you enjoyed it! That was one of my favorite moments of the story when writing it. Even after all this time, the bond between Twilight and Spike has never wavered.

That really hit me in the heart; sad to see the mane six gone, happy to see new beginnings and happy to see Spike and Discord still around.

This definitely struck me like a conversation between a brony who's optimistic about the new series and a brony who really misses Friendship is Magic.

LOVED the dialogue between Spike and Discord after they found out about the return of magic. And, yeah, seeing the changes they both went through over a period of thousands of years makes sense. Glad to see Spike and Discord still staying friends after all this time, even with the touchy subjects of their other friends. And it is understandable that Spike would take the more optimistic side (while also being very much wiser) and Discord would stay out of it only to honor his final promise to Fluttershy. But, of course, they both accept that, for the most part, while they might watch and occasionally help out with the really big stuff (discreetly), most of the adventures are going to be for the new crowd.

there needs to be a sequel wherein Discord looks in on the adventures of the Heirs of Harmony

This brings about a melancholy of what once was and the hope of a brighter future. This was a good read that brings a gentle sort of ache.

“Not Equestria, just the leftovers,” Discord snorted dismissively, crumpling up a map of Equestria he had produced and tossing it away dramatically. Spike shook his head in disagreement.

Honestly, even though I accept and like G5 now, I agree that it still feels like leftovers from G4.

Very nice little story! Thorough and to the point.

Old-Wise spike has been done plenty of times but, I still very much so enjoyed his portrayal here. Despite the sadness of realizing Discord and he were all alone, there was a genuine undertone of hope throughout it. It makes sense for Spike to hold within his hoard such deared possessions.
Discord being a discombobulated observer that's been able to reunite with Spike was also nice, though I'm a sucker for hugs and hyperglycemic love so, I would've liked to have seen more emotions out of their reunion outside of mostly anger and frustration.

I enjoyed it very much!

Funnily enough a lot of the feelings and dialogue in this story was based on my own inner debate about the merits of G5, so in some ways it is!

Glad you enjoyed it! :pinkiehappy:

I did try to insert a bit a bit of happiness with the ‘hug’ but I do understand that both of them being annoyed with each other can be disheartening. Discord has always been a cynical character so I wanted to show his snarkiness related to G5 in contrast to Spike’s optimism. Really glad you enjoyed the story!

I liked this story more than I though I would have. 👍

Spike, The Magic Dragon?:fluttercry:

Good one shot Mate! Though I'm pretty sure if Celesta and Luna are gone in that world then Spike would be long dead as well. cdn.drawception.com/images/panels/2014/3-17/WfxY64St6s-2.png

This was wonderful, a simple conversation between two ancient friends talking about the future.
Characterisation was on point, and i really like your portrayal of an older Spike.
Great work

And I'm crying this was beautiful and it hit me like a truck X'D

I just can't really get into Gen 5. It breaks my SOD instead. There is no way Equestria could have really fallen like that. I simply cannot believe it. Gen 5 is just somepony's bad dream. Maybe it's Roseluck. Or another of the Flower Trio instead. They can come up with some pretty wild stuff. Wonder where this dream will wind up taking things.

It’s ok not to like new things. You don’t have to feel bad, and don’t let others make you feel bad about it.

Quite emotional... Is it okay if I use this Spike as inspo for a potential oneshot? I like that's he's just a super big ole wise dragon.

Me encanta!!! Espero que en G5 Spike sea un mentor para Mane 5 , Spike es el mejor Personaje de la franquicia CHANGE MY MIND<3

What a beautifully sad thing.
