Funnily enough I was very much inspired by a musical piece for this

Thanks for sharing though! Great music!

“And what do you know?” Cozy snapped. “Some spectre of some dead mare.” Cozy breathed heavily out. She let her anger stew for a moment as Twilight continued to stand impassively. As Cozy slowly calmed down, she spoke once more. “I haven’t spoken to Tirek or Chrysalis in years. They are more concerned about themselves than anything I have to say.” Cozy’s muzzled dipped slightly, as did the harshness of her tone. “Even if it’s the end of the world.”

I wounded how they’re doing.

“I am sorry friendship failed you,” Twilight whispered. She brought a hoof against her chest. “I failed you, Cozy. And now, because of my failure, I have failed everyone.” After a brief sad look, she closed her eyes and bowed her head.

Are you sure it wasn’t the other way around?

No, Harmony sees the best in creatures and of Cozy. Harmony blames itself for not being able to convince Cozy to change her ways. It may not be a logical position to a neutral person but to an entity that is powered by friendship, it sees the end of the world as a failure to teach others the value of friendship.

Ohh. Because, I kept thinking about it and came up with nothing.

“An Empress has no friends, only followers or foes,” -- I remember a Twilight Zone titled "The Mirror" with that exact same thing. (Episode 71)

Funnily enough that line was a reference to the movie Henry V (2019). I was not aware it had been referenced elsewhere. Interesting.

"Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"

“I don’t want anything from you, Cozy.” Twilight shook her head vigorously. Eventually, she stared straight into Cozy’s eyes. “I just want to say I am sorry.”

“Sorry?”

“I am sorry friendship failed you,” Twilight whispered. She brought a hoof against her chest. “I failed you, Cozy. And now, because of my failure, I have failed everyone.” After a brief sad look, she closed her eyes and bowed her head.

AS much as I want to hear that to prove that magic isn't always perfect. This story is so tragic, that anyone can't help to weep by it beauty

Should probably have a "Tragedy" tag on this.

So depressing I'm forced to break the Prime Rib directive.

"Captain, we have transporter lock. Beaming her aboard now."

"The storm is growing captain, it will engulf the planet in less than two minutes."

"Target aboard!"

"Good. Helm, get us out of here... MAXIMUM warp."

I did debate on whether such a tag was necessary because one part of me believed that this was deserved and that there was no tragic aspect because everything is a consequence of Cozy’s actions. But then again the genre of Tragedy is often based upon the fall of the main character which I suppose is very applicable here so I may change it. Shame you’re only allowed three tags would have loved to have kept the drama tag.

It fits more than the Drama tag. Furthermore, while fall of the hero is what the term "tragedy" means most of the time, on this site, the "Tragedy" tag is simply defined as having a downer ending. Of course, both definitions apply here.

the tragedy is for everyone else

Could also see it a reaching a “Bad” and tragic end for equestria, in that sense. I could see it either way. Yeah she got what was coming to her but that doesn’t help the millions of now dead ponies, you know?

That is true. A lot of this story tied in with Tolkien's view of evil being self-destructive which would tie in with the tragic aspect of Cozy Glow's choice.

It's rare that I can add a story to my 'Tragic' bookshelf.
I can only wonder what the storm was... and that wonder is killing me.

I've always disliked when the 'good guy' entity uses the form of another to be seen and heard. It's hardly something I would call the actions of a well-meaning and all-good creature. Many tv-shows, movies, and books do that; however none of them really justify permitting the 'force of good' to essentially use identity fraud to manifest.
With that said: Either that was Twilight speaking through Harmony, or it was wrong of Harmony to speak to Cozy using Twilight's form.

A lot of what I wrote here is for reader interpretation, specifically on the spirit of harmony and the storm itself. I wanted people to come to their own conclusions. The storm was influenced by Lovecraft in the sense that we don’t know exactly it is and this because of that it’s scary.

However in an early draft that is still applicable I had wrote that this whole story is going on in Cozy’s head, Twilight represents Cozy’s humanity, the current Cozy represents her own self identity and the storm represents the monster she has become. The storm ‘kills’ her at the end representing her ultimate downfall into self destruction.

This is one of those one shots that could be made into a fully fleshed out story that would likely be amazing.

It’s good but there’s something about the word usage that I can’t quite nail down.

I actually briefly considered sequels with Chrysalis and Tirek but I’m pretty content to leave this as a self-contained one shot

Fantastic alternate ending. It feels very true to how things would end up if Cozy won.

It was her choice but sadly she was not given many to choose from, locked In tartarus and forgotten about until used as a pawn by mad god, friendship did fail her

Thats what I considered myself. Often these stories tend to highlight. A odd binary. You bad and you good. But like what if she was a child? Thrown in prison?

Or what if she saw the hypocrisy in Twilight and them?

The story did not do this, necessarily. But those thoughts remain? What if like Luna and more then likely Celestia? Cozy learned?

It always strikes me even in fanfics? That sometimes Luna can have been Nightmare. But be forgiven but a child could not? Or but another way...a better way?

Why is their definition of life more valuable? What if one wants to live alone with two friends or only family?

My point lazily made...is it seems like often being redeemed just means to be friends with Twilight and co.

Like what if Cozy, Tirek and Chryssie where friends? Is that not the magic of friendship? Should not friendship be what you define it as?

I like it. It links two mostly disparate idea together very well, which here means two ideas I honestly hadn't considered linking before. It works extremely well.

But even so, I'm still going to embrace my (inferior) fan ending where Cozy looks up at it from the bottom of Pandora's Box and says, to no one in particular, "One last move...." Mostly, I think, because I prefer to look at everything from the bottom of Pandora's Box.
