Routine day with a dirt cheap brush, then a week goes by and it goes untouched. Then two, then three, then a month, and the rest of your life you beat yourself up. - Aesop Rock, "Rings"

Retirement can be difficult for some ponies. This is true whether its at a family bakery or a world famous stunt team, and whether you're the outgoing old boss or the worried new owner. Ponyville has the curious habit of bringing the right ponies together, and on one thankless Thursday morning of sibling stress, it does just that.

Old mares can't learn new tricks, but they can sure teach them.

This is an entry in the Snippet Series, an anthology of old oneshots that I (and my good buddy Str8aura) wrote based around interesting pics I found. New ones will be posted every other Thursday for the foreseeable future.

How old is everyone supposed to be here? Doesn't seem like Spitfire should be as old as you've made her.

I really like what you did with Spitfire’s name here.

Per the “Lil Cheese moved away” line, this fic takes place a little after the Last Problem episode. I wager that featured the Mane Six in their fifties, so Spitfire is probably around sixty-five here.

Meanwhile, the Cake Twins are either in their late late teens or early twenties.

Even more truthfully, Supermarine "Marina" Spitfire knew her reasons

I am legitimately upset with myself for not coming up with that.

Nice little start you got here. I absolutely love fics set in the future. It's a treat to see where people see the characters ending up. I especially love ones that feature the Cake twins. Crying shame the show never showed us them growing up and kept them as alien-eyed infants for seven years.

Eager to see where this goes! :pinkiehappy:

It's fun to imagine the "older" (child, not baby) voices Tabitha St. Germain and Andrea Libman could have given Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake, respectively.

Hm. Have you simply forgotten to put out the rest of this story, or is that not going to happen at this point?

Ack! Completely forgotten. There was a second half I planned to have that follows Carrot Cake's side of the story, but it lacked oomph so I never got around to penning it. I'll give it another try this weekend and see if I can put some spit and polish on an old Snippet.
