“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.” - Patrick Rothfuss

For the holidays, Rarity has said that she wants to get a kiss under the mistletoe from her marefriend.

One would expect this to be a simple thing to accomplish.

Applejack can attest that it is not.

I'm impressed with AJ efforts.
Changeling, masked as mistletoe - good way to get some love, indeed.

This was adorable.

What was the promo for this one? :p

Both a sweet story and an origin for Kevin XD I love how much Applejack works to show her love, and how much Rarity appreciates it.

Sweet, funny, and terrifically well structured!

And just why did the changelings not come up with this on their own sooner?
I mean, when they think they are a delicacy because THEY ABSORB THE LOVE
of ponies kissing underneath . . . then why NOT CUT OUT THE MIDDLEMAN?
A Tiny Town like Pony-Ville could probably get them enough love to feed the
Hive in that time.
Not to Mention places like canterlot, where there would be more mistletoes.
Even if there might be less love in a noble household, it can't be that bad in
the entire capital <.<
And then there are still the other settlements.
And they could make money as well by selling themselves disguised as the
mistletoes and . . i am ovrthinking a stupid cartoon show meant for little girls
again aren't it? x.x

AJ's efforts were commendable, and perfectly in character for her. This was fun.

Also, I felt for AJ when she was explaining to Dash the morphological differences between mistletoe and holly. They don't look anything alike outside of basic angiosperm morphology.

Well, this is a perfect bit of farcical Rarijack hijinks. Well done!

Kind of quirked a brow when it was set in the library, actually placing it in a specific point in the show's run, but I saw why ya did it in the end.

Thanks for writing it!

More than happy to. It was a fun write, and I'm glad it was enjoyed. Have a happy holidays, Tumbleweed.

That was quite the adorable, wacky story :derpytongue2:

I enjoyed how each scene flowed into the other through dialogue, and gems like these-

"Rainbow Dash."

"Yeah?"

"Did you just ask a farmer how she'd be able to identify a plant?"

Dash's voice shrank away the same way she did. "....Yeah?"

snrk- ahem, gems like these, lets the characters shine their very best.

I'm touched to see what was a random idea I blurted out expanded on, and that's an interesting spin you've put on it.

A lovely Rarijack piece, all in all

I like how you formatted this one. The constant use of em-dashes to start/end scenes gave this an even more comedic feel, I think. Especially how the scenes flowed into each other at points.

I was expecting the plan to unravel pretty fast. However, I didn't expect a Changeling eating all the mistletoe to be the reason behind its sudden shortage. My thought was that Rarity had bought them all up to set up herself, in order to make the moment more romantic somehow. Your method was far better, though. At first, I thought maybe the Changeling could have been Thorax (maybe he tried hanging out near some towns before being drawn to the Crystal Empire?), but the use of Kevin was a stroke of genius, considering that this story is set before the end of S4. Kudos to a creative use of canon!

Along with the warm, fuzzy RariJack hijinks (which are always good), I think my favorite bit was Dash mistaking holly for mistletoe. I have done that myself before. :twilightsheepish: It's just such a Dash thing to do, along with starting to argue with AJ about it. :rainbowlaugh:

An easy fave, this one! Great Hearth's Warming story.

EDIT: Also, I somehow wasn't following you before? Fixing that.

The ironic thing about this story is that one of the most common host plants for mistletoe are apple trees.

You're forgetting that mistletoe is a weed, so the Apple family would have torn out the mistletoe at the first hint of it growing on a tree.
They're not going to sacrifice a few trees for a few extra bucks during Hearths Warming season.
Since the trees are dormant and coasting on stored energy through the winter, the mistletoe would likely kill the tree well before Hearths Warming.

I loved the use of the lines to indicate scene changes, as Apple Jack runs across Ponyville.

I really enjoyed the story!

A fun and lovely romp for the OTP. Just the right mix of funny and heartwarming.
