I think I agree that No Nut November is just a 'optional' challenge, the world won't end if you fail it. I'm onboard with that post that made you create this story.
If I were to choose between NNN and DDD, I'd rather choose DDD, you don't really gain much from NNN, but if you complete DDD you at least gain bragging rights.

Like NNN could be done any time for as long as you like, I know a friend who never did it for a year, but you don't really gain anything from NNN. DDD though is a true challenge that many should try to achieve, at least there's a more greater sense of competition.
