Oh Shining Armor, you are an idiot. I hope he gets what's coming to him.
It surprises me that someone can run a country for over a thousand years and remain comparatively incompetent. And Shining, for that matter, seems to be actively treasonous, out of spite?
... You're kidding me....
An emotionally unstable and possibly delusional egomaniac is running the Equestrian army and has proven himself to be inadequate.
Need is say more?
What is Celestia doing?
Shining.. It seems he is becoming more and more hollow like.. I want him to go hollow..but.. I don't want to see Cadence, and Flurry Heart sad.. Also. He's a bitch
Am I Solaire now?

Will fix that!
I honestly cannot wait for Celestia to put Shining in his place. I am liking him less and less in this story... which is a good thing Incase that sounded negative! Hehe, anyway great chapter! I can’t wait for Solaire to meet the Nameless King!
Have a great day!!!!!

That was the idea I was going for! We'll see what happens next.

Thanks for reading the story! I'm glad you like it.
Shining is purposely written to be different than the show, for reasons that will be revealed later!
I'm pretty sure celestia could've just demoted the shit out of shining. She is the head of the army, being the ruler of the land.
Another great one!
Really, the rebels are upset because they are not being adequately financially supplied? If I remember correctly, Appleloosa counts as a frontier/border town, yet it's a very successful town, especially since it was founded by a majority of Applejack's cousins. Also, these rebels are real morons if they don't understand how serious and dangerous it is to manage an entire kingdom, they expect to have important place on them because they have it bad or because they're farther from the mainland, yet they forget that most of these frontier towns were most likely built by volunteers or ponies who want to build their own homes farther from the larger cities.
If a decision was made for either equality or based off needs, of course there would be consequences, but seriously if these ponies feel wronged, they need to remember either they can bring their demands straight to Canterlot or give up and live in the populated areas. Fighting back simply because of some slights... that's just complaining about the deck of cards given to you by your own choices. Solving a problem with violence won't fix anything, not only that since some of the rebels are ex-military - whether being discharged or retirement - they are killing their own fellow guard, so I don't see the rebels having any rational reasons to act this way, at best calling them radicals is proper response to them, they're fighting for something that didn't need to fought for in the first place. Not only that, since this is taking place some time after S8 opening, some of the quote-on-quote frontier towns - like the homes of Starswirl's friends are being rebuilt - so exactly which of these frontier towns aren't being given proper attention, because this sounds like absolute horse-shite coming out of the rebels asses and to me sounds like a small minority from various frontier towns are just complaining about their living conditions rather than fixing it with their own hooves and expect the government/royalty - the same royalty that has to deal with the occasional villain attack, demands from annoying nobles, requests from other towns, some requests possibly being more if not just as important - to fix everything for them, for deities sake, Appleloosa fixed all their problems with little to no help from the Elements, and these other frontier townsfolk complain?
Sorry for the ranting, but these rebels are the saddest and dumbest excuse within this story... not the story is bad, it's awesome, the rebels are just complete lazy shites, as the list to why they're rebelling is getting dumber with each time they're mentioned - their reasoning isn't any personal hatred to the royalty - so far - or any mistreatment by the guard or certain noble individuals, they're basically complaining like any common small minority group would without thinking of any alternate solutions... Better this rebellion problem is fixed, because if it ends up getting bloody I don't know who to blame anymore - them or the ones trying to stop them - and let's not forget we have entities from other worlds appearing so I'm pretty sure the rebels would be screwed if they encountered said entities, they wipe them off in an instant.
I don't typically leave a comment... ever, but it was nice Author's Notice that tickled me fancy to leave something.
Great story Incandescent! Keep it up!~
Best regards,
Someone from the 'MERICAN Swamp.
Loving the story so far. I could never get into dark souls as the game (I like video games, but I'm horrible at them) but I always loved the idea of it. Typically not a fan of cross-overs but you've done a beautiful job with this one. Looking forward to what you have in store!![:pinkiehappy:](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/pinkiehappy.png)

Perhaps he's intentionally trying to get himself fired? That's literally the only way he could get out of the position that you've set up (since you mentioned it was a requirement of a treaty/alliance not a thing he did voluntarily or even wanted to do). That's my impression anyways. Getting something over on Solaire would just be icing on the cake for Shining (as you've written him).
Guess we'll find out eventually.![](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/twilightsmile.png)
Edit: Or he's a CHANGELING!

The purpose of the rebel's were supposed to be considered as 'dumb and naive' by the general population.
Radical groups are usually considered to be un-organized groups of chaotic messes, with little to no reasoning behind their beliefs other than crazy or insane thoughts that brought them to the conclusion they've arrived at. Generally, they go about thing's one way, and usually it is the worst way, instead of talking about things.
I can understand why it's confusing, and they do need further elaboration and to be cleaned up a bit to be better in the story, but that was the general gist of what I was going for.
Crazy, unreasonable, radical ponies who want to cause chaos because they can't have their way.
Anyways, thank you for still reading! I hope I could answer some things that you may have had a question of. 'Til the next chapter!

I'm glad that you liked the little author's note!
And thank you for the support! I'm going to continue writing this, and hopefully it will get better.
'Til the next chapter.
Praise the Sun!

I'm glad you're liking the story, despite not getting into the series itself!
The series has been noted to not be for everyone, and the difficulty also puts people off easily. However, that doesn't mean you still can't enjoy the story of the series, so i'm glad you've given my little story here a read!
My idea for the story was to combine the darkest, bleakest atmosphere I know of, into the brightest atmosphere I know of.
And what better way to start it off than with the all-time favorite of the series, Solaire? Who also happens to be the brightest character in the series, at-least in my own opinion.
As more Shining, I won't reveal what happens later on in the story! Just know, that he is important! I'm glad that he intrigues you, and has you asking questions. That simply means that my tactic is working~!
'Til the next chapter!

I get that and the way you portrayed them was the best example of radical, what really got me confused is the fact they have ex-military among their ranks that got me really confused, you don't get that kinda help unless there's some other reason behind it - like the ex-military members did something to get them discharged from the military?
He obviously knows better than someone who's been ruling for over a thousand years, right?
