If you close your eyes, it's like nothing's ever changed.

E

Phil, the first and only human in Equestria, finally poses a question that's been forming for the past three years.

Done solely for fun, and shouldn't be taken too seriously. Enjoy.

That....Was really good

:coolphoto:
A bunch of the deep thoughts that an HiE brings up, without the silly character development and plot before it.

Well-written, but I didn't like the "ponies good, humans bad" vibe I got.

The first bit I new about Archaeology but when you got to the part about ponies I remembered that I was reading a pony story:rainbowlaugh:

Curse you! One second! And I even just posted coolphoto, then edited in my actual response. :duck:

Creation beats Evolution :trollestia:

Nice short story. Classical conversation in pill from HiE fic that must showed up at some point.
Humans as individuals are not bad usually. Power of manipulation, corrupted power this is what makes our spieces so... violent. Mass is stupid, easy to control to basically brainwash. Some individuals can endure it but rest of "zombies" can deal with them....

Hmmmm...bueno. This was a good look into a plausible evolution of species pony and indeed, the formation of their world. Well done and well thought out!

In my honest opinion, I think it is too short. Things started getting really interesting, especially when Phil explained the human side of evolution. But then it was over, and that's it. Not to say it's bad, I really got engrossed. But I do wish it was longer.

1146479 Maybe I'll make it longer. I just didn't want to get too involved with the whole thing, since this was meant to explain more about ponies, than humans.

1144619 I wholeheartedly agree. Despite what a lot of people on the internet tend to think, humans aren't all the bad. Take this video for an example. At times, you really need to ignore the media and look at the world through your own eyes. The Earth is a very beautiful place, as well as the inhabitants that live in it. Sure, us humans have our ups and downs, but we don't all always to look at the negative sides of our species. There are many positive ones as well.

But onward to the actually story itself. To me, it's just basically a theory as to how ponies evolved. I like how it's similar to humans, but different in many other ways as well (such as implementing magic, for example). There's nothing much noteworthy about this short story, but there's a few things in there that kept me interested enough to read it through the entire thing. On the bright side, there's wasn't any spelling or grammar mistakes I noticed (it's late at night for me, so I could be wrong).

I'll give it a thumbs up, but this isn't exactly favorite worthy for me.

“So, what do you think of you’re latest literary challenge?”
You're should be your, you are latest literary challenge doesn't make a lick of sense :pinkiehappy:

1146771 I am aware of the positive aspects of human nature, and human society. But looking back through history acts of terror, and death seem far more prevalent than others. Sure, taking specific examples of the species will yield certain results, but I'm trying to look at the species as a whole, from an independent outside view. Granted, that's impossible, but I wanted to try to explain the most notable aspects of our species. We, as a rule of thumb, aren't nice people for the most part. When given the chance to get ahead in life, or help someone, most people would choose to get ahead in life. And that, in my opinion, is the difference between ponies and humans. Most HiE fics focus on the individual character, while never really exploring the more fundamental differences between the races. That's why I made this. I need to work on it more, to make it more complete, but the idea behind it is solid. This really started as an attempt to explain pony evolution, but by the time I finished I wanted to publish it, so I simply added a bit of plot to it. There's tons more that I could address, such as societal differences, but this was just meant to be a focus on evolutionary differences.

Magic, or at least fine-manipulation telekinesis is the only way a quadrapedal equid with no fine manipulating limbs could have developed a tool-using settled civilisation without invoking higher powers. That said, the existance of Celestia, Luna and Discord and their roles in the world do suggest that higher powers are extant in the MLP universe and are active in the physical world. Therefore, it is necessary to question to what degree the current forms of the three subspecies of Equestrian Pony are the result of natural selection and to what degree they were shaped by interventions by god-like creatures.

A literary example: In the Lord of the Rings universe, it is established that Orcs and Hobbits are both magically-modified life forms, magically altered from their ancestral stock (Elves and Humans respectively). In the case of both, their supernatural creators also heavily influenced their social development in line with their wishes too.

That was an interesting read.

The problem I have with this is that when it's tossed into a story, it's never really explained. With how this story was going at the start, I thought it would actually bring it up, but in the end it turned into just another short fic with the HiE going on about how evil humanity is and how ponies are everything good.

It's like none of these stories ever actually think to consider the context behind all of it. Like I said, I thought this fic would be different, but it fell in with the rest of them by the end. Yes, we are more violent by nature with countries going to war over complex issues (what, did you really think wars are started over petty ideas most of the time?), and ponies are peaceful. Now, something these stories never bother doing is looking at the context. People are more violent and ponies more peaceful, but ponies also happen to have magic, control the weather and seasons, and just so happen to be led by a pair of benevolent monarchs who also happen to be immortal and pretty much goddesses and who can help them with their problems. Humans? No magic, no control over weather, and while we have at rare times had countries being led by a monarchy which was actually benevolent those leaders will die (not being immortal gods and all who control the sun and moon), and end up being replaced by either someone incompetent or a dictator.

So yeah, humans aren't as peaceful as ponies, because said ponies live in a world pretty much designed to serve them. What those fics also ignore is the strong possibility that if those ponies developed in a world like our world and not Equestria then they would likely be much more similar to us.

Good explanation but the Human hating was gay so I am undecided.

Going good until "Humans are teh evuls."

More proof that one "aw shit" cancels a thousand "atta boy"s.

Damn man you have skillz. I have to say that I am a huge fan of this work as well as many other works of yours. You my friend are a frecking champion:rainbowdetermined2:

Reread this just now. I cannot for the life of me remember why I liked it in the first place. The explanation of evolution of the herbivores is weak and full of holes, and everything else between the first living organisms and the establishment of E. Archai is painful. "Magic" may be a good explanation for evolution in ponyworld, but not when you are trying to explain evolution in ponyworld specifically!

Thumbs up changed to thumbs down, dropped the fav.

2850879 That's fine by me, honestly. A lot of my earlier works are less than pleasant even when I read them. I know that it's weak, and, honestly, looking back, I probably wouldn't have even written this had I known how weak it would've come out. But, that's the benefit of hindsight.

I made the comment more because I wanted to explain the down-vote. Your writing in this was still better than most things on this site, and your newer work is still pretty awesome.

That said, I hate it when readers leave unexplained downvotes, hence the comment.

Yeah. Humanity is often depicted as a warmongering chaotic race. Its not really. We are pretty grey. Capable of unimaginable evil and incredibly good.

On a sheer bit of whimsy I searched out stories about Pony Evolution, yours was one of the first that came up that was actually about evolution as a science. At face value this story could be expanded upon to fill in the numerous blanks and holes, but as this is practically an ancient artifact in terms of fimfiction I'm more than willing to overlook some of these things. I'd still be curious about a longer more detailed explanation of how pastel ponies came to be outside "magic".
