Luna has found that many things have changed since she was banished. Technology, culture, even cuisine had grown and advanced far beyond what she could have imagined back in the old days.

But there's one thing that she always thought would remain constant, and yet it seems to have changed the most.

Who better to ask about it that the one pony to have lived through years of change?

But can she handle the answer?

Full disclosure: this was my entry into the Quills and Sofas Speedwriting Competition. Though I do admit that I went back and expanded it and did some editing between the contest ending and when I posted it.

Ha! Silly but clever way of explaining the "phases" of the celestial objects with Equestria logic. :rainbowlaugh:

I was caught off guard when Celestia said she ate the stars. Then Luna says she's been drinking the sun.:rainbowlaugh: Good story nontheless.

Okay, that was funny. :rainbowlaugh:

Oh my, 'tis so unique and funny! :rainbowlaugh:

Have a like and a face, you madman!

There's a small error, look for "Lune". However I love this explanation of the lunar cycle and seasons!

I thought this would be a different kind of story. What a twist! That's on me for not reading the tags before starting the story, however.

Verily, I say, mine expectations hath been diverted

HAHAHAHA! XD I was already enjoying this, but I did NOT expect it to culminate in an explanation for the moon waxing and waning, and the sun looking smaller in the winter. THAT IS CLEVER. Well done, that made me laugh, was very well written, and super cute!

And here I thought this would just be Luna learning about light pollution. Brilliant work on all fronts. Thank you for it.

That said, do note that the singular is "millennium." Sorry, just a pet peeve.

Now this is a clever little tale. I take it the inspiration came from the many legends and myths made up to explain such things as eclipses and the lunar cycle.

In one, an eclipse was due to a giant sky snake swallowing the Sun and then puking it back out again.

However, many cultures that featured such tales also postulated the ACTUAL mechanisms of an eclipse, making one wonder how many of these myths were actually believed by the more advanced civilizations at the time vs merely being entertaining fables akin to modern fiction. It's also possible that BOTH ideas were regarded with equivalent validity, as was frequently the case with other phenomena. Both the Greeks and Chinese had discerned that the Moon shone due to reflected sunlight as early as the 6th century BCE, and had begun to chart the relative positions of the Sun and Moon to predict eclipses.

Aww dangit, now I'm hungry and have no easy access to celestial bodies. Curses, for being unable to sample the skies for myself! :flutterrage:
