Wow. This whole chapter is all about how other characters' views of Twilight are changing, some for the better, others very much worse.

I thought it was important to show how different Twilight is compared to when she was still a prisoner of Golden Oak.
to quote Dave Chapelle:
Welp, Rarity's fucked.
Oh boy.

I think you might have said it best, pal
Noooo, not Rarity. I mean it makes total sense but aww man I really liked Rarity in this. O well, guess she gotta die.
Brilliant chapter, after her talk with Sweetie I thought the trio would be spared which made the shock of rain shows head literally exploding all the more shocking.
Though it does mean Celestia’d going to need a new chancellor. Pinkie pie maybe….?
I really should've seen that coming. Ah, well. I liked you, Rarity. A shame, there.
Honestly I see Celestia punishing Rarity but as noted earlier magic users are in short supply. I hope she doesnt kill Rarity, or maim her (and i think we all know Rarity caused Sweetie Belles issues) but breaks her like a horse to the halter. Breaks her mind to make her totally obedient. Then gives the former chancellor to Twilight as her new slave. Or even puts her in prison to keep Pinkie company but only after stripping her of her power.

And people say I'm dark
11089481
Well its logical if a bit 'Dark' Rarity is a rescource. A well trained one mage. It would be a shame to destroy that. So other options would be on the table. Not every Monarchy killed its traitors but put them to work or jailed them until needed. For Rarity her best chance would be to become Pinkies new roommate and Celestia did mention there was room for one new prisoner. At worst Celestia could break Rarity to make her totally obedient. Whether through physical torture or magic she would keep the potential rescource for the future while removing the threat to Twilight.

Never said I disagreed.
You put forward a strong argument
First of all, GREAT CHAPTER!
It looks like Twilight knows how to make the Empress change her mood very quickly. Even I was surprised.
I loved this version of Twilight, seeing her interact without shyness or embarrassment and with a lot of confidence was incredible, I hope to see her again soon.
The only thing I didn't like about the chapter is that thanks to it, I'll be thinking for the next few months about what might happen in the next chapter.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait months to find out what happens
Current theories as to why Rarity tried to kill Twilight:
(Keep in mind that it could be one of these theories, none of them, or a mix; I'm not claiming any of them are the "right theory".)
- It's implied (don't remember if outright stated) that Celestia hasn't had a handmaiden (or any Ruler hasn't had one) in a very long time. Rarity is the Chancellor. As such, she's likely never had to fight for being Celestia's right hand man, so to speak. Twilight is a threat to her position.
- Jealously (related to first theory). Twilight is treated better by the Empress than Rarity is, despite the fact that Twilight is much newer to the Empress than Rarity, hasn't served her nearly as long, and isn't from any sort of noble family. Yet Celestia cares genuinely for Twilight, unlike Rarity.
- Celestia has repeatedly told Twilight she might make a good ruler, and outright made Twilight the stand-in ruler while she was comatose, as opposed to Rarity...who has much more experience, knowledge, and understanding of politics, it seems.
- Sweetie Belle has become attached to Twilight, and they are friends. Twilight is also the handmaiden, which, even if it was someone else, and not Rarity, puts her at the target of potential danger or assassination attempts due to her position. It's possible that, in a way, she's trying to protect Sweetie by taking out Twilight.
- Twilight is (I can't really say for sure though) potentially more magically inclined, or perhaps has more potential. She's also likely more "interesting" to the Empress, as she's the opposite of Celestia in terms of which type of Mage she is. We also know that Twilight, even if not as *experienced* as Rarity with magic, she does seem to have a lot of magical power.
However, I'm not certain *when* Rarity's hatred got this extreme. A few chapters ago, she seemed to be okay with Twilight (the chapter when Celestia woke up from the coma).

I love all of your reasonings, and the way you analyzed the story in order to theorize as to Rarity's motivation. This is the shit I live for.
As for the "when" it got to this point... You should already know.

Fair enough!
Besides the exact "why", my main question right now is regarding the potion Sweetie Belle was brewing that exploded before. I can't tell if this is super far out, but while I don't think it's the direction you're going, I could see in some way how it might be possible that, maybe even indirectly, Rarity was in some way responsible for Sweetie's accident. Again, I don't think that's what you're going for, but I'm trying to figure out how/why the potion blew up the first time (since it's been a minor focus for several chapters now). Twilight has added marsh mellow root(?) repeatedly with no violent reaction. My guess would be that then maybe something was wrong with her cauldron instead? Because, as Twilight said, it would be hard to overlook *that much* of it, even if Sweetie wasn't paying attention. However, I can't really see Rarity intentionally doing that to her sister. Buuut I'll be thinking about the possibilities. Since I'm here already, I'll make guesses for that too. Though these are less grounded than the other ones, as I feel like there's less info or solid conclusions we can get from what we're given so far:
- Rarity, intentionally or not, caused the accident in some way. Intentionally could mean she, for some reason, did something to purposefully cause Sweetie specifically to be hurt, though I see that as highly unlikely. It's also possible it was meant to explode on purpose/have a different reaction, but...I can't figure out why this would be. My only guess would be if maybe Rarity used magic on it to cause a reaction, which Sweetie Belle accidentally set off. Though these theories to me don't make a ton of sense.
- The explosion reaction was caused by an outside factor. My guess would be maybe contaminated water, or something like rusting on the cauldron. But these things seem to be seen as normal elsewhere in this universe, at least to most of the "lower classes" (like how Fluttershy is said to use and old teapot with what seems to be dirty water, which Fluttershy herself never seems to notice or mention, though Twilight notices). But I don't see how either could cause such a major reaction. You'd think if that was the case, there'd be even more strict rules on alchemy. And if that was what happened, you'd think they would have figured it out by now. Like, "Oh, it had an explosive reaction because the water was contaminated, not because of marsh mallow".
- If Sweetie was distracted, she could have misread a recipe, or put in the wrong thing. Like how some people, if they're not paying attention, might accidentally use the wrong seasoning. It could also be possible that she misread something, or the amounts (ex. one tablespoon VS one teaspoon).
I don't really have a "solid" theory on the potion, and find these *much* shakier than the "Why is Rarity trying to kill Twilight" ones, mostly because there isn't enough info. All we know for sure, to my understanding, is:
- Sweetie was trying to brew some sort of potion to make herself more attractive (if I'm remembering right?)
- She believes the issue was having some leftover marsh mallow in the cauldron, which caused the potion to have some sort of explosive/injuring effect that caused disfigurement.
- It seems that, even in larger amounts that would be hard to miss, the most notable effect Twilight got from adding the root is the potion bubbling, not really exploding or anything like that.
- Sweetie Belle is a pretty experienced alchemist, and still essentially works for the Empress if needed.
I'm sure the "Why did Rarity want to kill Twilight?" and "What happens to Rarity now?" will be answered probably in the next chapter, but the potion thing vexes me, especially when it's been brought up over several chapters, with, imo, not enough info to make a serious guess as to what caused the incident.

The next chapter will release tomorrow. I think it'll answer most of your questions
Regarding the thing about dirty water, that was primarily to demonstrate how different Twilight has become, even among other servants. At the start of the story, she was happy to have moldy bread and old cheese, but now she's turning her nose at this tea because the water is dirty and the drinkware isn't as expensive as she's become used to. Fluttershy, and in fact most castle staff, are considered poor, and therefore don't have ready access to clean water and the like. Alchemy follows different rules, and Sweetie would never do something like brew with dirty water. Remember, she's so particular about things that she even uses her own urine in brews because she can be sure of exactly what's in it.
You'll find out more specifics tomorrow. Thanks for reading

Looking forward to it :).
I apologize for the frequent comments, but I reread the previous chapter and realized that I believe the "Rarity intentionally sabotaged Sweetie's potion" theory much more now. I somehow entirely blanked on the fact that Sweetie was considered for becoming a handmaiden. If the "Rarity tried to assassinate Twilight over jealousy/fear of losing power" theory thing is true, I could also see Rarity potentially attempting. Get rid of competition. However, I still don't entirely see it — buuuut one could also say it wasn't intended to kill Sweetie, just injure her. Maybe somewhat like those situations where a parent is intentionally making their child sick/ill so the child can't leave the house, and has to rely on the parent. But instead she perhaps intentionally caused the potion to have an adverse reaction using sorcery (sorcery is different than alchemy, right?). Not to kill Sweetie Belle, but to prevent her from becoming a handmaiden, and preventing any sort of competition. Sweetie Belle, after all, is still important to Rarity, and thus maybe she only intended to injure Sweetie enough to prevent that, and knew she wouldn't die. Isn't it also said somewhere in an earlier chapter something like Rarity doesn't want her trying to make the healing potion? She still might fear a situation where Sweetie Belle may have "more power" or more say than her.
If this is the case, Rarity obviously still cares about Sweetie. After all, she told her not to go with Twilight, assumedly because she knew that either Sweetie might be injured or killed trying to stop it, that Sweetie would protect Twilight, or that even Sweetie Belle might recognize, like Twilight did, that the bags had the royal symbol on them and put the pieces together. I suppose injuring her would mean that Rarity isn't exactly loving of Sweetie Belle like a normal person might be, but if she wanted to "get rid" of Sweetie Belle she could, especially when Rarity is a mage and SB is injured (albeit still an incredible alchemist). I'd also like to note that one of the few times that Rarity tries to seriously oppose Celestia is over her wanting SB after the attack on Canterlot...though wanting someone dead because you hate them and wanting them just injured enough not to be a threat to your position are perhaps two different things...

Don't apologize for the frequent comments. I love em.
Stay tuned for more
What would she have done if Gylda didn’t divulge the information out of nowhere? Unless Gylda thought she was bargaining for a painless death, it didn’t seem like she had any motive to speak up.
Rarity, that fabulously jealous bitch! The signs were there throughout the lore and it finally came to boiling point.
Ah, so it was indeed Rarity...
One question though:in the last chapter, it is stated that the trio didn't knew that Twilight could use magic, so why didn't Rarity told them she could, in order for them to have an advantage?
11243049
She did. She warned Dash, and even gave her the arcana ring to counter Twilight's sorcery. Dash didn't tell Gylda, because if she knew what they were up against, she wouldn't have gone along with it.
