soooooo 1 down 1 to go
It is better a bad acquaintance than a bad one to know, but how bad can a person be who is willing to die for others in the most horrible way? I think Twilight made one of the worst mistakes in her life.
I sincerely hope that the last words Luna said to Twilight come true :'v
I mean... logically, Twilight made the right call. A miserable land ruled by Celestia is still better than an elder god ready to tear reality apart at the seams. And, as she herself notes, there's a chance Celestia can be convinced to change. Discord, not so much.
Twilight saved her Owners life. She had best get an appropriate reward.

And if everything is a Discord plan ?, Luna has already paid the price, her death and with that her future.
Yawn, saw it coming. Now on hiatus? You backed yourself into a corner didn't you? Twilight is a dumbass in this story, she thought she made the right choice? After all the shit Celestia and her guards put her through it only took Celestia loving her to change her mind? DUMB.
O boy, that was pretty cool. Can’t wait to see how this arc concludes
Great story
Love the characters
And the plot is really thought out
Can’t wait to see how you continue
Fuuuuuuuckkk, what a brutal way for Luna to go. I knew Discord's involvement was going to change things significantly, but part of me was thinking that Twilight would've killed Celestia after the latter had killed Luna, and take the throne with Flash. That's not realistic, I know(and it would've been too fairy-tale and perfect for this story*), but I didn't think I was ready to imagine Twilight turning on Luna. I think anyone who has trouble with this turn of events should think about it more; you can't trust Discord, and Luna sold her soul to him. What else was Twilight supposed to do?
*It might still end this way. The story ending with Twilight on the throne is probably the most popular theory, at least. With Celestia's most powerful rival out of the way, who else could oppose her?

Get a load of this kid.
I could get into the various bits of psychology involved in this situation, from Twilight being abused to her having a misjudged sense of pity for the Empress to the fact that she literally saw the future of what happens if she didn't betray Luna, and that future involved a wrathful deity basically doing whatever the fuck it wanted with the fabric of reality... But I won't.
I could also point out that one of this story's themes is choice, or lack thereof, and in this situation Twilight in one sense makes a choice but in another sense doesn't really have a say in things. That's all I got to say about that.
As for the hiatus... You're super duper right. This story I conceived in July of 2018 and have been working on fairly regularly since August of 2019, yeah I totally didn't plan this turn of events. I'm really just throwing darts at a board and hoping the result is something that resembles a narrative. It's truly a miracle that all my readers are idiots and you're the first person with a functioning brain and also huge meat who saw this and realized what a hack I am.
That's obvious sarcasm, but you're also not all that bright, so I figured maybe I'd spell it out for you.
No one's making you read this. I urge you to find something you like better.

I'd say I couldn't have said it better myself, but I kinda wrote two chapters that came together to convey this exact idea, and it seems to have flown over people's heads.
I don't hate the idea of Twilight pulling a triple-cross, but consider the following: Luna is still dead, and Flash knows that it's Twilight's fault (or, at the very least, he'd be able to figure out that it is). The last person I'd wanna be is the one who resulted in the death of someone that meant so much to the king.
Keep on theorizing, I love seeing what you guys come up with.
True, but I can't imagine Twilight eventually causing Flash's death, or even doing it herself. Still, he's still a factor in the story, and still has a reason to go after Celestia and now Twilight.
Although... My final theory is this: Flash will form an alliance with Chrysalis and the Hive, and continue his resistance against Celestia. Twilight's magic training will continue under Celestia*, and Pinkie will soon reenter the story as a major character(perhaps being brought to the castle to serve some benign role, for Twilight's sake and to get Twilight to submit even more of herself to Celestia). Eventually Flash's machinations will come to light, and Twilight will learn of Equestria's future if the Hive were to succeed. She will kill Flash and Chrysalis, and kill Celestia(or Celestia will die in the battle and name Twilight her successor). Twilight's actions will alienate Pinkie(or she'll die as well), leaving Twilight embittered and angry, and she will either emerge as Equestria's ruler(perhaps as despotic as Celestia, given the many fucked up things that happened/will happen) or just kill herself, leaving the Kingdom a chaotic ruin.
*Having written a number of stories myself, it's plain as day that there's a lot of plot flags showing a thread of "master teaches pupil and pupil turns on master", but that'd be the easy ending. Truthfully if I were writing this Celestia would remain Equestria's ruler, with Twilight loyally at her side, replacing Rarity as Celestia's right hand. It'd end the same way it began: Twilight as a prisoner, but this time as a prisoner of luxury and grandeur. She'd be utterly subservient to Celestia, with Flash dead and Pinkie dead or exiled. Chrysalis and the Hive would remain subjugated, for potential sequel-bait, with an ending twist thrown in showing Discord coming for Twilight and Celestia.

What about the whole "Discords gonna come to collect" thing?
Please reward her with pinkie and a nice house it would be so good

1) Twilight is written dumb I'm sorry you don't realize it. I get it, it's your story and you are going to do and enjoy what you write no matter what I or anyone else says. Still doesn't stop the fact that you made her abandon Pinkie for a piece of royal tail. You wrote it all up that she was doing all of the things the empress wanted just for her. Then you switched it cause of said royal tail. I suppose if that is the route you want to take it then I can't say much other than I feel bad for the Pinkie in this story.
2) You wrote that Discord would not take anything if Luna didn't take the throne. Then you flipped it and said that he would take it anyways. So NO you wrote it weird.
3) Never once did you say it was a prophecy until Twilight said it was. So she just knows? She knows what is and isn't a dream eh? Better than Luna? Dumb.
4) Sorry you don't like criticism. But that is how it is I suppose. The Hiatus is cause you are stopping regardless of what it's for. You ended on a HUGE cliffhanger and that is annoying but whatever, you have your life or whatever is the reason. Because of that I don't have to go somewhere else. It's being done for us. So NO I will not read anymore. It's disappointing cause I like it up to the last two chapters. It just got too weird and switched too much for me to enjoy it anymore.
So yeah, call me dumb and all that. It makes you look so good. I will leave and find something better to read than this flip floppy shit.
10376435
Alright, couple things.
1) She didn't abandon Pinkie. The only reason she does any of the things she does is to keep Pinkie safe. Nothing about that changed. What changed is the method of doing so. First, it was obeying the Empress. Then, Luna showed her a way out by way of the assassination of the Empress. Then, for reasons I'll get into in a sec, Twilight believed that wouldn't work. So she once again changed her plan. Nothing in life is static, and sometimes shit changes.
Furthermore, there's no way you can look at it in which Twilight is dumb. Every decision she makes is based on sound reason based on the information she has. The word for Twilight is naive, and there's an important distinction.
2) I wrote that Discord would claim Luna's future, and Luna believes she can circumvent this by not claiming the throne herself. But, as Celestia later says, Discord is a flippant God. He sticks to his word, but he may stretch the definition of "future". It could be argued that even having a subordinate of Luna's on the throne would constitute as "Luna's Equestria", and that would render it forfeit if and when Discord came to collect.
3) The reason Twilight knows that it's more than a dream is the nature in which she experienced it. It had all the same symptoms as Luna's magick (which I make mention of), implying that it's more than just a bad dream. Furthermore, I never said that she knows dreams better than Luna. I never even imply that. I presume you're referring to when Luna calls it just a dream, so you're taking the word of a known liar/deceitful leader who is in a life or death situation for gospel.
4) I have no problem with criticism. Criticism implies respect given both the the writer and the piece, and you showed neither. You were just being kinda a dick. Also, I find it interesting that you accuse me of "flip-flopping", yet you changed the entire basis of your hiatus gripe. First, I was going on hiatus cause I wrote myself in the corner. Then you say that it doesn't matter, and you're just annoyed cause of a cliffhanger. Both arguments suck, by the way, but you should at least stick with one.
I'll admit that you have a point: calling you a dumbass probably isn't a good look for me. Pulling up to my story and acting like a prick isn't a good look either. If you're gonna criticize, then criticize, but do it right. Or be prepared for me to get annoyed and call you out on your awful points.
Step back, chief. This ain't it
Twilight would rather end up being in the Hell she's been accustomed to than letting her world become even more Hell. She made her decision and she's gonna be dealt the cause of that effect.
Good Lord tho how Luna went out wasn't just Killed Off For Real, that was There's No Kill Like Overkill levels of done. Thought the dagger use was enough but the aftermath...
I figured Luna would still escape somehow, but as brutal as the rest of the story has been going I should have seen that coming. Now I’m really hoping this causes Celestia to make some kind of positive change seeing how close Twilight was to betraying her for the promise of a better future. When someone you think you have under your thumb saves you not because they are loyal to you but because the alternative is even worse that has to be a wake up call.
A brutal end, but considering she really did sell her soul to Discord... really, Luna. It's Discord, for fuck's sake!
Incredibly tense and well-written. God damn you're great.
Honestly I didnt expect that ending. The Daybreakers get there pound of flesh from there original Mistress.
Very sad to see this on Hiatus, hope you soon decide to continue it, this is one of my fav fanfics.

It might not be back until October/November, if I'm being perfectly honest. I need to focus on other, smaller scale projects, and I would also prefer to amass a few chapters in bulk before I start updating this again.
It will be back, and that's a promise. If you're not already, I suggest you follow me to see when I blog about the return. Given this fandom's tendency of abandoning large scale projects for whatever reason, I'm trying to make a conscious effort to keep everyone in the loop as far as this story goes.
See you when I see you
10390295
I do already follow you, and I'm more than happy to wait. Tbh it's not a this fandom thing where people abandon big projects, that's just fanfiction in general, and I get why. Having ideas for a long story and actually writing them out properly is hard. I'm currently working on a long series that I'm very passionate about, but it's a struggle sometimes.
10390318
Yeah, for sure. Didn't mean to discredit anyone, just saying that it feels like it happens strangely frequently in this particular fandom. I've been in that boat and I totally get it, which is why I wanna make sure this isn't like that
Though chapters for this story are a rarity, that just makes them even more special then they already are!
Not what I was expecting so quickly, but I'm honestly pretty happy with this outcome. 'Luna shows up and overthrows the tyrant' is a bit overdone at this point, and Celestia is actually becoming an interesting/redeemable character.
Also I'm a sucker for pet Twilight in any story.10444726
Funny you say "so quickly". A while back, I had a few people mention that their disappointed that the end was coming up so soon. Little did they know, we're just getting started.
This was always the plan, but I'll admit that I briefly considered having Luna come out on top. I found that outcome to be unsatisfying, though. Feels too easy.
Also, I'm kinda in love with the Empress as a character. This story quite literally came to me in a dream, and the Empress in my dream was the main force that compelled me to write this.
10447674
Nah I've been for 7 years now. but I understand your confusion
While the details are "conveniently" missing from this chapter and last one, I'm left to wonder...what did Twilight tell Celestia that spared her the execution? From what I remember, she executed a guard by disobeying her.Did she make an exception for Twilight?
She could not say that she met Luna just once, because that would contradict the "they attacked me" plot line.So did she told Celestia the truth, and she forgave her because she wanted to capture Luna?
11537924
She told Empress Celestia the truth. about how she had been conspiring with Luna for some time now. Celestia forgave her because she was honest about it, she had a good reason to distrust Celestia, and she had the sense to realize that Luna was the real problem. As far as The Empress is concerned, her pet made a mistake, but ultimately did the right thing by maintaining loyalty, even though she and Luna could have more than likely succeeded.
Also, something people haven't really pointed out, Empress Celestia is a bit of a simp for her handmaiden, in her own harsh, somewhat sinister way
