It's independent; I had an idea about Sweetie Bot, and just had to try it.
Though it may be worth note, it's the same overpowered Athena as is present in both The First Equestrian Starliner and The Equestrian Starliner, though in those stories, Athena doesn't demonstrate a convincing enough humanoid conversational ability to pass successfully as Sweetie Bot.
That said, I think I like Sweetie Dreadnought- and may use her again in a future story.
Wait...didn't they get their Cutie Marks before the Castle showed up? I forget.

Castle showed up in season 4 conclusion, they got marked in season 5 sometime.
Plus, the cutie mark episode is never canon to my stories. Because, in my opinion, those marks destroy their characters, in personality, behavior, and appearance alike.

Nah, after all this time, she’s long since curbstomped all galactic threats, so they aren’t around any more…. This may or may not include the civilization that built her.
As for what, exactly, she was built to fight…. I don’t know. Maybe the Death Star Squadron?

This COULD imply that other galactic threats might exist, not necessarily in the present, but the future.
Perhaps she has a second job, as a galactic-scale police officer, essentially? There could be others like her with the same task, even if the civilization which built her is dead and gone...
This is all conjecture, of course.

Usually, she’s so powerful that entire galactic civilizations fear her, sometimes even her name, for fear of drawing her ire. So yes, she usually serves a peacekeeping role.
Here, she’s probably been “in hiding” for the last few billion years, and so is a myth/legend…. But retains the power to flatten anything else ever built. Sometimes literally.
As you may guess, this is far from the first time that ship has appeared in my works- though the first time she’s appeared as Sweetie Bot.
