Don't know that Tales but I think Celestia acted very OOC, she wanted to imprison him because he said he wanted to be left alone ? He's a danger to others because of that ? Really ?

but like you said about ooc. Celestia wouldn't execute someone just like that (since he hasn't killed anyone), but imprisoning something that has as much dark energy or even more power than Discord is highly likely.

But I never heard of this 'Tales of Graces' before, so I read a brief story synopsis.
So for anyone wondering who this Lambda guy/girl/other is here is the synopsis for you.
Presented in a bad rhyme.
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away,

there was a doctor called Professor Cornell,
The doctor one day said:"Let's rise!
And build a creature out of sugar, spice and everything nice!"
So built it, he did.
With boold tears and sometimes spit.
He said: Let's call him Lambda, yay
because I love radiation decay."
Sadly humanity didn't took kindly of him, creating a creature of death,
so he breathed his last breath.
But in the end the monster he shaped,
escaped.
But humanity used their greatest weapon, Sophie, a Protos Heis,
to kill him and explode him twice.
