This story is a sequel to A World Above
The 9th installment of the RCF series. Based on “Beauty and the Beast”. All of Equestria is in panic when two of its most powerful ponies get kidnapped! To save the ponies most dear to her heart, Twilight and her rescue party must venture into a dark place of evil – Tartarus. Meanwhile, there are troubles at home, such as a slave operation and conflicts that could bring war.

Alright! I've been waiting for this one! And right off the bat, we get what I'm guessing is the "Beast" half of the adaptation. Now, the only question is, who's going to serve as the "Beauty"? Also, I see the darkness (which I'm going to just refer to as the Pony of Shadows) employing classic devil deal tactics. Overall, this was an interesting beginning, and I'm curious where this'll go. Also curious as to what Sunset's role is going to be.
“The darkness spoke to me of a power beyond any I could imagine, and I listened.”- Stygian/The Pony of Shadows from the show proper, and this very much gives us a possible exchange between Stygian with the darkness.
This seems a most promising start.
I kind of hope my OC would appear in this, but hey if he's one-off, he's a one-off, it was fun while it lasted.
Hmm, okay, so not a romance then. Hmm, just where is this story going? If Stygian is the beast, then who is the beauty?
Your prologue is making me ask a lot of questions. Wait. What if I'm wrong and the beast is somepony else?

Wow. Just wow. I don't think I've read such an emotionally heavy chapter in this series since that point in "Sweet Pea" where everyone thought Sweetie Belle had been killed. Except here, Sombra is actually dead, which was something I was definitely not expecting; I knew he was getting old in the previous story, but still...
Honestly, you nailed the somber feeling of being at a loved one's funeral, and I felt for every one of the girls. It also felt appropriate to learn a bit more about Sombra's past, particularly how he apparently attained the throne by defeating Grogar, which was definitely something I didn't see coming. That along with the mention of the unicorn from Gusty the Great's band makes me wonder if Grogar's going to come into play at some point...
I also enjoyed learning more about Blackthorn's past and how he and the deer became known for secretly helping ponies in need. Also, congrats to him and Skyla for getting engaged!
Finally, Luna's eulogy was perfect; it was brief but detailed all the ways that Sombra's affected Equestria, and even included a brief but welcome bit of levity with that Celestia joke.
Overall, this chapter was VERY effective when making me pretty damn emotional, and this is just the beginning of the story; if this keeps up, I think I'm really going to enjoy this one.
Now I want to know the actually story of Sombra's ascent to the throne...
I wonder.. is the darkness from the prologue connected to Grogar?
I think a line is missing, like one pony..creature should have said 'The King Sombra is dead' then turn to Twilight and kneel and say 'Long live the Queen Twilight'
I joke, but humor is a copping mechanism... (sigh) my grandfather passed in 2016... and this story just happen to land pretty close to home.

Hmmm, something seems off about the play, not the director I doubt a minion of Grogar would be introduced without wearing a bell somewhere on his/her body. Back to the play, even if it is a shorten form of what the director wants, give that song used is base of 'The Bells of Notre Dame', I am getting a vibe that the play to be commissioned will be like to the real events of Sombra's ascension as Disney's adaptation is to Victor Hugo's novel... and the chapter ending...

I'm reminded of The Magician's Nephew when Jadis tries to tempt Diggory Kirk into stealing a silver apple for himself instead of fetching it for Aslan. Also, I'm sorely tempted to call shenanigans considering what happened in The Phoenix Tear, but then again, people do things for the people they love that they normally wouldn't do for themselves.
Also, again?! How is she still within child-bearing age? She's a grandmother now for crying out loud!

Well her husband is a Draconequus, it makes sense that it doesn't make sense, also as long as she didn't go through menopause she can still have childern, but the odds of it are still slim... very slim... but this is not the first time nor will be the last time the Sisters (Kid and Cartoon) had... less then unquestionible math for story-telling purposes
This was an enjoyable chapter.
The brief bit between Apple Bloom and Grand Pear was nice, and it makes me interested in that story, although I'm curious: is it going to be a complete side-story ala "The Quest for Family" or "A Woodland Romance", or is it going to be part of the "Royal Canterlot Family" anthology story?
The play was pretty good, and had some nice references in there, plus I like the idea of Canter Zoom making a movie about Sombra's life; seems like a good way to keep his legacy going.
Finally, regarding the ending, I'm of two minds: on the one hand, neat! Screwy's getting a little brother/sister. On the other hand, I assumed that Fluttershy was at the point where she couldn't sire kids anymore. Then again, considering who her husband is, something happening that doesn't make sense weirdly makes sense.
All in all, a good chapter, and I look forward to that story you mentioned.

Well, there were quite the interesting developments here!
With the Mane Seven inheriting the slow aging gene from Celestia, that actually kind of makes sense and was a good explanation for how Fluttershy can be pregnant again, although now the guys outside of Discord and Spike are in a bit of a pickle.
However, the main event was the introduction of the Young Six (who I can't call "Student Six" since they're technically not students in this context). First, I thought it was interesting that they're the same ages they are currently in the show; usually, show-canon young characters tend to be aged up by this point. I also thought it was interesting that they were slaves, and I like the slave names you came up for them, although now I'm curious as to how they're going to get their canon names. Finally, Silverstream is our first hippogriff in the RCF series; now to wait for the rest to be introduced!
All-in-all, this was a good chapter, and I'm excited to see what happens next!

I leaned more to laughing at that scene, but you have to remember humor is a copeing mechanism and guys generally use humor as we often aren't in a place or have the time to express other emotions.

That entire scene on the train with the girls and their husbands was definitely somber, but meaningful. Also, very well said, Capri; very well said indeed.
The scene with the Young SIx was nice; I guess Yona being five when she was taken compared to the others makes her the oldest. Also, I had a feeling that Ocellus was that missing Changeling egg! I'm glad you followed up on that!
Finally, good grief! Now there's even more to add to an already really big and somewhat confusing family tree. Not much else to say other than the story of how Skater adopted Dyna sounds like something I'd have liked to read.
All-in-all, a good breather, and I'm interested to see what happens next. Although, I'm starting to wonder when the Pony of Shadows is going to make his entrance considering he was the focus of the prologue.
