Lets Do This

We're going to build an exact copy of Ponyville... right over there! We've got less than a minute!

T

The Doctor is on the run, from an adversary that has pursued her across all of space and time... the last enemy there can ever be. Fortunately she has family and some good friends along to help!

A crossover based on Jodie Whittaker's Doctor. Also explores the question: what if Time Turner wasn't the Doctor all along?

I love Jodie Whittakers Doctor, and this was a beautiful rendition of her as Derpy. It was a joy to read.

I'm honestly surprised no one came up with this concept before. Or maybe i just missed it. Regardless, fantastic work. Brilliant presentation of Best Pony doing Doctor things. Thank you for it.

This was amazing! Very unique. My only regret is that I'm not caught up with Doctor Who at all! I absolutely love the series, but unfortunately I still have yet to see most of it. I have only seen the 9th and 10th Doctors.:fluttercry: Thankfully, I know a little more than that due to having a Doctor Who encyclopedia up to the 12th Doctor.

I wish I had more time to watch stuff. So many great shows I'm missing out on...

As for the story itself, it was awesome. Very well written.

Signing out, VShuffler42

Thanks! I really like Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor myself. I think she nailed the character, right from the get-go. My one regret is that so far she hasn't been given much in the way of stories and adversaries to work with. I'm about halfway through Season 11, and I'm still waiting for the 'Girl in the Fireplace' episode -- the one in every season that makes you go woah, that's why I watch this series!

You're very welcome, fellow Derpy fan! :derpytongue2:

While looking for groups to file this under, I did come across this story, which does the Doctor/Derpy angle, but with Derpy channelling Peter Capaldi's Doctor. But that's about it.

I'd had this Doctor/Derpy plot in the back of my mind for a while, and I hinted at it with a throwaway line near the end of Little Pony Story. I figured I should publish this story soon, so someone else didn't grab the Jodie Whittaker take on the Doctor first!

Thanks, DG! I did try to keep this evenly balanced, as a crossover, between a Derpy/Timey story and a Jodie Whittaker Doctor story, so it has something for both groups of fans. I hope no one minds that I went with Twilight and Rainbow as travelling companions from the pony side of things, rather than trying to cram in Graham, Ryan, and Yaz. Trust me, I'm not deliberately ignoring them, I'm really getting to like them... it was just getting a little crowded in the bigger-on-the-inside blue box!

Thanks very much for reading, and for everyone's kind feedback!

Thanks much! It's great to hear that the story also works well for a reader who isn't familiar with the new Doctor. I did throw in a few nods to past seasons, like the scarf and the fez, the watch from David Tennant's era, and the "all of time and space..." line from Matt Smith's. But they're just extras for fans who recognize them.

Fantastic!

:derpytongue2: "... Right, let's get a shift on!"
(Not sure if they're doing a catchphrase yet with Jodie's Doctor...)

Give them some time. :)

Because I needed one.

What a wonderful twist on the usual idea of the Doctor as a pony, and having it be Jodie was a fantastic idea. It's one of those ideas that just works as soon as you set it up. I really would love to see more of her adventures (and now that she has a daughter she really should meet back up with Susan). Also loved all the little references through out the story.

Thanks! This was fun to write, since I'm a Derpy fan and I'd just started watching the Jodie Whittaker episodes myself as I wrote it. It's great to hear it works so well for you!

I never thought of this concept of derpy being the doctor but it actually makes a bit of sense. In a female centric society it would be the males that take the last name of their female partner after marriage, and we have always known derpy a Derpy Whooves

Again I am impressed by another wonderful story! Great iob

Thanks much for the read, and for your feedback!

(If you're so inclined, for more DW crossover fun see Doctor Whooves -- The Two Sisters.)

Interesting take...

The very first stories I ever wrote were Derpy and Doc Whooves. The second one chronologically actually being the first one, and the second, the first...

I was already in a Doctor state of mind, it seemed...

Since my Doctor was Tenant, the Angels were the choice. And a Doctor that could give up the wandering for a time...

I never considered Derpy in the Doctor role. I had her as the one that fell into the Companion part; with some various changes here and there, it all worked.

Quite well.

These stories have a special place in my heart(s?)

I'm glad to read one from you...

Thanks much! I was a Whovian long before MLP (in fact, as far back as Jon Pertwee, believe it or don't), so being able to try a crossover here was a lot of fun, especially as a way of wrapping my head around Jodie Whittaker's portrayal. I think she nailed the character right off the bat, and simply hasn't gotten enough good stories to work with.

Glad this worked so well for you. Thanks for reading!

Excellent work. 13 is a weird one for me. I like her, but I haven't enjoyed any of her stories. She's a little like 6 in that regard (if you've not explored Big Finish, I urge you to so). Let's hope after her departure she can get some good stories.

Having Derpy as 13 is one of the most original and off the wall ideas I've seen. But somehow make it work. Off goes to show there are no bad ideas. Only poor execution . A lesson some mainstream writers in Doctor Who could do with learning i suspect. Well done.

Thanks! I'm with you, I think Jodie nailed the character from page one. She's just not gotten enough good stories to really let that shine. Like, The Empty Child, Silence in the Library, Vincent and the Doctor, Time Heist, stories that combine sci-fi, deep ideas, and off the wall zaniness in equal measure. It'll be interesting to see where Davies takes things when he comes back.

It certainly will be. I suspect he'll lean away from Chibnall's run and more into his own thing. Not because I think he dislikes the current, but its usual for new show-runners to reference the previous runners stuff. Moffat stayed away from most of the RTD Era, except for River Song (whom he wrote anyway), immediately rejuvenated the Daleks (though he walked back the redesign - which was a shame, because with the slight tweaks we saw to them in Asylum, they looked pretty good) to being a present power in the universe. Chibnall similarly ignored most of the Moffat Era (Most egregiously with the Master, and seemingly not realizing that Gallifrey was brought back into the Prime Universe prior to the events of Hellbent) and tried to restore some of the "Last of the Time Lords" mystique, which was frankly a baffling choice, because he then immediately ran with a story arc that removed all the Doctor's connection to Gallifrey, leaving his effort... slightly numb.

I suspect RTD will return to the "One Doctor, One Companion" Formula enjoyed by his first run. Though I'm fairly sure the next Doctor will be a woman, as RTD is too sensitive to the optics of walking back that one after the... lukewarm reception. Besides I reckon he'll see it as a challenge to do it right.

I suspect he'll have a "Homebase". Though it might not be 21st century earth. Under RTD, the companion's family was a touchstone back to normal life. They had family back home who you also got to know, and saw how their lives were affected, that created a sense of continuity. I also suspect he'll so something to pilot a spinoff series, so I'd expect to see Unit back in action.
One thing I think he will do, is a Peladon Story. Peladon was always a metaphor for the UK joining the EEC, and now that Britain has left the EU with such... uh... gravitas, I can't see him passing up the opportunity to satirize it. Its genuinely hilarious to me, that some people think RT Freaking Davis is going to Less be less politically charged. He's always been socially conscious, and since Doctor Who his major dramas have been:
Cucumber (Literally Codenamed "More Gay Men" when in production), - focuses on the life of a gay couple, accompanied with Banana, an anthology series about younger characters across the LGBT spectrum and Tofu, a documentary series which discusses modern sex, sexuality and issues arisen during the show.
A Very English Scandal - A drama about the Thorpe affair (A sex scandal about the homosexual affair and subsequent murder plot by the leader of the British Liberal Party.
Years and Years which focuses on British family who experiences massive political, economic, and technological changes over fifteen years as a populist government takes over Britain (And absolutely worth watching. Like seriously, you should watch this. It will leave you shaking, because even though its speculative fiction, it never leaves you in a position where you think "This couldn't happen", because it walks you though a completely plausible scenario. Genuinely horrifying.
It's a Sin, a Drama based on the HIV Crisis.
Interestingly, one of the favourites for the 14th Doctor is in both those last two: Lydia West, and was great in both.

So basically, I'm expecting the second coming of RTD to be the gayest, most politically charged and dramatic modern Who has ever been. But whether or not people notice will depend entirely on the quality of the stories. I am fairly hopeful, because frankly everything he's done has been brilliant.

I have to admit... I've always been a bit confused about the Doctor's numbering system. 12 regenerations which means a total of 13 Doctors. Yet the count got muddled up after Doctor #8. If I count correctly John Hurt was #9 (The War Doctor). That would make Christopher Eccleston #10, David Tennent #11, Matt Smith #12 and Peter Capaldi #13. Then, thanks to Smith's doctor defending Christmas in combination with the events of the 50th anniversary Day of the Doctor, the regeneration cycle reboots making Jodie Whittaker Doctor #14, and the returning Matt Smith as Doctor #15. Have I missed a regeneration somewhere? Oh, and by the way, I am completely ignoring Peter Cushing as the movie doctor, though I suppose if you counted him he would be #2, which is what I thought the two movies were.
