The Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai'don.

”You’re my diamond dog, Spike.”

Pretty much a love letter to Aragon. A really weird one.

Written for Oroboro's Journeys contest.

You utter madman. I don't know whether to be ashamed of you or kiss you.

I don’t think I ever said how much I love Spike’s dialogue during proofreading, so I’ll happily say it now :rainbowlaugh:

These two are my favorite bits, though, definitely:

Twilight’s little robot dog had, the one built just for Spike, but… He’d been too enthusiastic with it, the poor robot hadn’t made it, and it wasn’t like there was anyone around who knew how to fix it.

They both felt the hole where a person used to be.

Best way to do SunLight right there :trollestia:

>Love letter to Aragon

Oh no...

(Reads)

Oh no...

Surprisingly heartfelt for what it is. I'm not sure what the judges will make of this one. Possibly just a loud, synchronized "NOPE!"

9137699 You have to admit, that's a fairly... unique collection of tags. Dog tags, that is.

It's... um.

It.

Uhhh.

It's certainly a tribute to Aragon! :rainbowderp:

9137666 If you were going to kiss anyone, my breath is probably better than Sunset's right now? :rainbowkiss:

You made Bookish cry!

Why? Just, why?

9138180 This is a tricky one. Bookish and I had an agreement to read each others' contest entries (I plan to read The Winning Formula this evening, having not started it yet as it's twelve times the length of this one and I've been doing the final readthrough of Naiad's contest entry today) and then hate each other for a bit afterwards, as we knew we'd each probably object to the others' story.

So I hope Bookish isn't too sad. But I also entirely agree with Naiad.

9137909
I just wanted to echo Summer’s sentiment of “I hope Bookish isn’t too sad.” While I do stand by what I said, I don’t think we know each other nearly well enough that it would be alright for me to bash a ship I know you like to your face--I knew Summer agreed with me, so I was perfectly alright saying it here, but if I did offend/annoy/affect negatively you, it wasn’t my intention.

No worries, Naiad!

I'll say straight up that was a bad idea on my part for me to read this first thing in the morning, with like zero of my rational faculties about me, and I think I might've handled it badly as a result. I was sad, but the last thing I wanted to do was make anyone feel guilty about it. Summer and I talked and as usual, context was shared between us both. At least, I hope it was.

So yeah, no hard feelings towards either of you. That said, Summer and I are probably still gonna hate each other for another day or so, since that was the original agreement--and I can't wait for them to have to read mine now :pinkiehappy:

9138418
Fair enough! I think that was a completely understandable reaction, and I’m sorry for contributing to it.

You’ve written the only SunLight story I’ve read recently and walked away from kinda satisfied, if it helps.

9138449
Water under the bridge.

It does. ^_^

Why do I feel like Sunset’s final statement should be prefaced by “Gentlemen, Behold!”

Very well done.

9138715 Because she's in love, and wants to declare it to the world! :pinkiehappy:

9139127
It is FAN FICTION!!! No need to over analyze it. Its not like Hasbro or Lauren Faust skim this site for ideas to add to the canon.

9139893

Yes, I know, but with a DOG.

9139900 Do you think Sunset's barking up the wrong tree?

It...

It’s not a terrible premise. Sunset and Spike finding comfort in each other after a heart-stinging loss. Could almost work. Yes he’s a magical talking dog... but she’s a magical talking pony. And they are both intelligent enough to have complex emotions.

I think the trouble is that the story takes the premise and uhh... screws the pooch....cough

You're terrible. Making me read this with my own virgin eyes.

9142740 :rainbowlaugh: 'Making' ...!

If eye virginity is a problem, I hear Aria Blaze is the person to speak to?

9142755
Awful story. 2 cacti out of 2.

WTF did I just read?

I couldn't even get through this without being reminded of Whitney Wisconsin.

Thank you!

In all seriousness, nice written, but wtf?

This is something that I read.

9168094 Everyone here knows how you feel. This is less of a comments thread and more of a survivors' support group.

This was not something I needed in my life.

No, that definitely makes it worse.

How is this a love letter to Aragon?

This... was certainly something interesting. But most importantly, it made me chuckle on the inside.

Keep up the good work. :)

"You could always try googling it, if you're not sure what 'nonce' means?"

I had to check more than one dictionary before I found one that had what I think you meant. Seriously, like when I bought the dictionary on my bookshelf, I forgot to get it in the special section for pervert English? :twilightblush:

This story is definitely...an achievement.

I don't know whether you wanted me to laugh, cry, or both. No, I know you wanted me to laugh, because of how I did.

It's a little-known fact, but Aragon sometimes transforms into a sexy sexy dog in Barcelona. Something to do with the phase of the moon? :pinkiehappy:

10454548 You're definitely more likely to find the right answer somewhere on google than in a traditional printed dictionary, eeyup.

This story is definitely...an achievement.

Ok, let's talk about this, because enough time has passed that one can be forthright!

I'm not a fan of Sunset Shimmer. No one liked her in the first film, and then along came Rainbow Rocks and she was great. I liked her back then. And I still like her when I, or a very very select few others, write her. But the problem is that she's become the fandom's #1 waifu who can do no wrong and either always wins or suffers tragically to tug at the heartstrings. As a result, she's one of the most shipped characters around, certainly the most shipped for her level of screentime, and is always presented as perfect. So, the idea that someone would then run a Sunset shipping contest, when there's already so much of her everywhere? :pinkiesick:

So my thought was, fine, if you want to encourage more shipping Sunset with everyone, I'll ship her with someone you really don't want to see her with. I'm not sure I can agree with you saying the story was an achievement, because the contest ran again the year after. I haven't really discussed this before because people can get their humourless heads lodged pretty firmly inside their bowels over the subject of trollfics, and being disqualified from the contest would be rendered the whole exercise pointless.

For what it's worth, I think the one I wrote the year before was worse.

How is this a love letter to Aragon?

Oh god. Spoiler: https://www.fimfiction.net/blog/766775/chlorine-and-ladybug-kisses

"Based on a true story." :fluttershysad:

ADDED: But this is a GREAT answer to the question, "Ms./Mr. Writer, where do you get your ideas?"
