Obviously, Adagio’s confidence was one of the attributes that set her apart from those who had come before her. Ha ha, come before her! She did genuinely wonder what the rest of Adagio’s life entailed that might fuel such self-assurance.

I'm a sucker for unusual pairings, and I am loving this so far!

Aie Chihuahua.

A well-written SpitfirexAdagio fic on my feed? Um, I'm not sure if I have enough YES to pay for this, forbloodysummer! Definitely a watch and favorite from me.

It's a good week for epic romances! :pinkiehappy:

And an unusual Spitfire pairing? This is relevant to my interests.

You're setting up quite a dynamic here, of two strong-willed individuals used to using their partners. It's going to be fun to watch the sparks fly as they try to navigate that beyond the initial fling. (At least I assume, given that it's a longer work to be posted weekly, that this goes farther.)

9733175 Unusual pairings are very much something I like. Perhaps not really because they're unusual, but just because they offer a much broader scope of characters than the small number who are usually paired up. Glad to hear you're enjoying it :pinkiehappy:

9733640 :twilightsheepish: In a good way, or...?

9734411 Thanks very much! I think I've only seen humanised Spitfire done three times before, one of which was yours :twilightsheepish: This is my pony OTP and I have kept quiet about that for three years while finishing this story, as I know how slowly I write and I thought someone else would beat me to it (there's one other DagiFire story out there so far - it's M-rated, so I can't link to it directly, but it's the only thing in this group folder).

9734516 That sounds like the best kind of week!

Ooh, I didn't realise you were a Spitfire fan, that's good to know - she's the best thing with legs, whether she has two of them or four

Thanks! I'm not sure what I can say without spoiling things to come, but I think it's fair to say this really isn't a FlutterDash-style pairing of opposites coming together. In canon, these two are literally worlds apart in distance. But once you get past that, I don't think there are many characters more alike in situation or temperament.

Spitfire needs to get laaaaid.

9744990 :rainbowlaugh: She definitely does!

...Maybe I should use that as the story's short description :trollestia:

The woman in the cover art is Spitfire, right?

9745078 Yep, that's my take on humanised Spitfire, standing up there on the balcony. I commissioned the piece from Lucy-tan about a year ago, and sent her reference pictures for Spitfire's dress and hairstyle - the only difference is that her dress in the story is bright yellow, but didn't look so great in the picture.

And then the person in the foreground is Adagio, looking up at her.

“I might be able to help you with at least one of those things,” Adagio smirked. Her voice resonated with confidence, before changing, along with her posture, to be more business-like, almost lecturing. “Now, overworking is a serious problem…”

Dammit Adagio, you tease!

9745215 Thanks, I'm really glad that bit came across as intended :pinkiehappy:

I struggle to think of many Adagio moments in fanfiction that have stuck with me the way that signature one has :raritystarry:

9756035 :pinkiehappy: It makes me very happy how much it resonated with you! I was thinking about maybe having it as the cover image for a few weeks.

Making a reference photo to send the artist was fun! :raritywink:

“Would you do that?” she asked curiously, but also sounding flattered and tempting. “Steal a car to impress me?”

"Depends. Would that turn you on?"
(Considering it's Adagio, I'm betting yes)

9768007 Can't say I was a fan of the film, but I do remember one scene, and it's hard not to think of in answer to that question :raritywink:

9770132
I actually have never seen that movie. I was just making a joke.

9772056 I know

Seemed relevant as a response - can't say I'd recommend the movie beyond that scene, though.

I.......... don't know what to say. Wasn't expecting it to be so short. Well written, but short. :rainbowhuh:

Huh. That happened.

9778207 Been thinking about how to reply to this! :twilightsheepish:

It's short for a few reasons, really. I didn't want to push the story beyond the teen rating, and I think showing much more would have risked that. I also wanted something that was more about sensations and impressions than definite events, like it's seen in a fever dream or a drug-induced hallucination, and I think taking it longer would probably lessen the surreal sensation? Alcohol often hits people way more the second they're horizontal, and those two have had quite a few drinks by this point (though I'm saying nothing about whether they were horizontal, vertical, diagonal or anything else in their orientations), so this is not the perspective of a sober person who's had plenty of sleep.

Furthermore, though, I don't really like detailed sex scenes, in any medium. The characters hook up, and then head into the bedroom, and I kind of think the viewpoint shouldn't follow them in. We don't need to see them kissing more and undressing and stuff; we know what's going on and what'll happen next. If we're going to be in the same headspace as the characters, we kind of need to be aroused, and that's then disappointing if it doesn't lead to proper M-rated territory. And then becomes distracting for the rest of the story. Whereas if we're reading it when not at all in that mood, then it's just kind of awkward and you want them to skip to the next bit?

I’m excited to see where this goes; thanks for recommending it!

9780615 :yay: Thanks, I'm really happy you like it! :pinkiehappy:

I have found the theme song.

Seems fitting to me at least.

~Skeeter The Lurker

Why did the hot ones always have to be lacking in personality areas?

It's a nice conjecture, but I think every other named character in the story proves her wrong here?

“Yeah, tell them they’d better write down your name.”

Ouch.

This was a surprisingly nice chapter for something with no Adagio in it :rainbowwild:

At some point someone on the team would probably inadvertently set Wind Rider off, and he’d throw a hissy fit and start screaming about professionalism – because everyone knew the shows were selling fewer tickets each year, and he blamed the rest of the team for it. Especially Spitfire and her closest two friends, who he charmingly referred to as the ‘young upstarts,’ and thought to be reckless glory-seekers not taking the job seriously or treating it with the prestige it deserved. Just thinking about it got Spitfire’s pulse firing up, and her teeth ground together out of the learned habit of holding her tongue all the times he’d shared his views with them. Prestige belongs in a museum, and so will we if you don’t recognise that!

And if Wind Rider had his temper tantrum before they left for Manehattan, then that was what she, Soarin and Fleetfoot would spend the journey discussing, tucked somewhere out of sight and earshot at the back of the bus. And by discussing, she meant the other two would be trying to calm her down or hold her back.

Nobody likes Wind Rider in either universe, do they?

9789760 I can see where you're coming from with that, eeyup  I think that's a song I've possibly heard once before, skating just beyond the edge of familiarity in my memory :twilightsheepish:

9789774 Oooh, good point. Um. Bear in mind this is several years before she met Adagio, so that one at least doesn't count?

Because the hot ones who aren't lacking in those areas become her friends, and so get thought of as more than just 'one of the hot ones' :raritywink: I don't think she'd deny Fleetfoot and Soarin are hot, but her instinct to see them as prey isn't there, so she doesn't think of them that way off the top of her head :twilightsheepish:

Ouch.

:pinkiehappy:

I mean, she is literally called spit fire, so if she insults you, it burns.

This was a surprisingly nice chapter for something with no Adagio in it :rainbowwild:

Best I can do under those tragic circumstances! :twilightsheepish:

9790062 No redeeming qualities, and the antithesis of everything a Wonderbolt is supposed to stand for, so, nope!

I think the best comeuppance is that in the second chapter Spitfire is worrying about being seen as the captain under whom the Wonderbolts lost their edge, so Wind Rider, who in FIM wanted to make his mark on the history books so badly he framed a pony, has been totally forgotten by that point. Even by her.

9790122

In the 90s, sure. Not quite as big as its album maybe All Star, though.

~Skeeter The Lurker

9790157 It's definitely All Star of theirs I remember, especially the live performance of it at the end of the movie Rat Race.

Actually I heard it again a little while ago in the form of an unconventional mashup that worked better than it ought to. At least the first verse :twilightsheepish:

This chapter made me feel sincerely awful that there's not more of this pairing out there.

9803464 It needs so much more!

I was really happy with how this chapter turned out. I think I took quite a big break from writing this story between chapters 5 and 6, so I think the writing here is quite a bit better than some of the earlier ones

9803464

Very true. And easily fixed, but seldom as skillfully as this.

~Skeeter The Lurker

9803517 :twilightblush:

Skeeter, I'm really glad you're here

The quiet musing which followed from Adagio was not at all what Spitfire expected, followed a moment later by Adagio asking, “Do you think I should shave my head?”

Spitfire squeaked. It was undignified, unbecoming of an adult, let alone a Wonderbolt, and certainly not their captain. But how else could anyone respond to that?

“Nice and cool on my scalp,” Adagio continued, closing her eyes with a contented sigh. “Would that be manly enough, do you think?”

PFFFF!:rainbowlaugh: I'm sorry, I just had this wonderful mental image of Adagio shaving her head with a buzz saw.

“Right,” Spitfire said, breathing out and feeling some of her muscles relaxing at Adagio’s touch, like they’d turn into jelly and she’d sink into the bed. “If I let a relationship hold me back, let it get in the way of how much I devote to my passion, then I think I’d come to resent it.” She focused on Adagio’s eyes, using them like beacons to keep her anchored in the conversation. “And I’d always wonder what I could have been, if I’d given it my all.”

Huh. That's an interesting perspective.

9804460

PFFFF!:rainbowlaugh: I'm sorry, I just had this wonderful mental image of Adagio shaving her head with a buzz saw.

:rainbowlaugh: She would definitely need something pretty powerful! A conventional electric shaver would look at Adagio's hair and just stop working.

Huh. That's an interesting perspective.

I don't know whether I should say this or not, but I know absolutely nothing about sports, and don't know anyone who plays them seriously. So it's all conjecture on my part, and I couldn't tell you if that's what it's really like. But I do know a bit about drive and dedication, and that's what Spitfire has in spades, so yeah, I think that's how she sees it

Wow, they are gonna be exhausted come morning.

9815631 If their union doesn't break time and freeze the universe in perpetual bliss, that is :raritywink:

dagi has fine taste in bling

these cheeto girlfriends are getting veeeeery spicy

9823896 As in the dress in the picture? :pinkiehappy:

It's so beautiful! Unfortunately it was in a collection from 2015 I think, so not really available anymore. Wish I had bought one, though!

9823905 Glad you're enjoying it! :yay:

I can't really see this pairing being a thing that isn't spicy with enough sparks flying to illuminate at least a small province

9824889
they’re 100% like Cheetos though because I need more of them

9825018 We need so much more of them! :raritydespair: There's only one other story published featuring this pairing on the site (at the moment, at least); I'd write lots more myself but this story took a very long time as it is :twilightsheepish:

9825204
i'm always eager for some cheeto gf updates, then

Poor Spitfire's not gonna get any sleep tonight, is she?

9825606 It's really nice to be in a position where there are more chapters already written, rather than having to answer with 'Uh, just hang around for several months, and hope that I feel like writing more and don't get distracted by something else...' :twilightsheepish:

9825826 I think 'beds used for sleeping' and 'beds containing Adagio Dazzle' are two completely separate things :ajsmug:
