The grey earth pony and the electric hair unicorn walked out the hospital together the next day. Vinyl giving a sigh of relief that she was finally out of the the retched place. Octavia gave Vinyl a smile. The two mares walked across town with nothing to do, until Vinyl saw a new music store opening across a random bar. She then put her hoof on Octavia's shoulder making her stop. "You okay Vinyl?"
Vinyl looked at her marefriend and then at the sign, making her look to. "Hey Octy you see that sign?"
"Ya?"
"It says 'Mus1c b3 l1f3', I've heard that somewhere before but where?" Vinyl put her hoof under her chin trying to think very hard about it. After three minutes of thinking she slammed her hoof on the floor. "That's it we're going in!" She let out a heavy sigh of frustration and stared to march toward the shop.
Octavia quickly caught up with her, "So I take it you remember where you remember it?"
"Not at all."
She stopped to think as her friend continued to march across the street. She probably just wants to see if she knows any one in the store to refresh her memory. She then once again quickly caught up with Vinyl as she stopped in front of the door.
Vinyl face-hoofed herself, "Well no duh! This is the same store where I got my first big gig."
"How can that be if it is opening now?"
"Oh Octy everything has to be perfectly proper grammar with you."
"Yes, yes it dose Mrs. Scratch."
"Don't call me that Octy, if you do, you will pay. I might not of known you long but I can tell what your weakness is, and worst of all it will be in public!" Vinyl gave a challenging glare at her.
"You're bluffing, you wouldn't." Octavia believing every word Vinyl said, but still trying to call her bluff.
"I'm not bluffing Octy but I want to go in the store first before I..." Vinyl whispered the last part into her ear, which made Octavia blush like mad. Vinyl instantly broke into a laugh when she saw her face. " Wow, did't expect this from a mare of your class Octy. I mean we haven't even been going out for three days and you're already actually thinking about -" Vinyl griped her stomach with one hoof from the straight jab Octavia gave her.Octavia quickly shook the red from her face and planted a hoof on the ground. "Totally worth it." Vinyl said taking in a small breath of air. "Jeez Octy no need to put me back in the hospital... unless you wanna let the doctors watch." Vinyl stepped to the left dodging Octavia's first attack, but quickly after she hit Vinyl in the back of her head.
"Why do you insist on purposely annoying me Vinyl?" Vinyl rubbed the back of her head and gave Octavia a ear to ear grin. "why are you smiling?"
"You're such a silly filly, an angry Octy is an cute Octy... well a even cuter one." Octavia gave a small blush to Vinyl's complement. Vinyl continued to walk in the store, "You coming Octy?".
"Ya on my way." walking in right besides Vinyl. She quickly scanned the store, " Vinyl this all DJ stuff isn't it?"
Vinyl shook her head, "Yup" She then looked at the turntable display her eyes widened with amazement and she used her magic to lift the shades above her head to make sure she wasn't seeing things, "NO WAY! These are the best turntables out there!" Vinyl jumped up and down unable to control how happy she was to even be near them.
"Wow Vinyl I never seen you so happy. you're acting just like a schoolfilly."
"Well can you blame me?!"
"Wait Vinyl your glasses aren't you afraid that people will she your eyes?"
"Nah, well not in this place I got a rep that goes through all these stores."
"Which is what exactly?"
"Nothing really just if anyone who enters these stores better prepare to die if they try to say anything about my eyes."
"Well isn't that... WAIT KILL!" Octavia shouted
"Oh Octy, you know I can't kill another pony." Vinyl gave a small giggle then put her glasses back on.She then turned her head to the direction a voice came from. "Is that... na can't be."
"Can't be what."
"I just thought I heard someone I knew but guess not." Vinyl walked to the turntables lifted the price tag with one hoof to see it. The next second Vinyl threw herself on the ground putting both hoofs on her face in aggravation.
"What's the matter Vinyl?" Vinyl then pointed at the price tag and gave a loud groan. Octavia walked up the the tag to see it, her jaw dropped in shock of the price. "2-2-2-2-200,000 bits!"
"It's not fare who has that kind of money!" Vinyl yelled. "Ugh, Buck this store! I'm leaving!" she then launched her self on all fours and stomped her way out of the store with Octavia close behind. "Can't believe we spent over one and half hours in that place. So what you wanna do Octy?"
Octavia thought about it for a second and replied, "Wanna go back to my room..." She looked at Vinyl who had a wide grin on her face.
"To your room Octy? I would love to, but didn't know you wanted to go to that step in our relationship yet."
"What! No that's not what I meant, that's just what they call hotel rooms!" Octavia face blushed and thoughts started to fill her mind. Octavia shook her head rapidly to try and get rid of the images.
"I know, I know just teasing you. But on one condition I'll go to your room."
"What?"
"No more of that 'X6' or '6X' whatever it's called."
"Deal" Octavia said simply, leaning on Vinyl and gave her a soft but passionate kiss. Vinyl instantly fell to the ground with a blush on her face. " You okay Vinyl?" Octavia giggled.
"Ya, just didn't expect that." Vinyl got up and started to trot with Octavia again.
~~~
They reached Octavia's room when she face-hoofed herself. " What's the matter Octy?"
"I completely forgot that I have rehearsal today!" Octavia looked at Vinyl trying to give her an apology, but Vinyl just looked back at her.
"Well lets go."
"What do you mean?"
"Well you never took me to rehearsal the first day you said you were."
"Oh... well alright then." Octavia opened the door, trot up to her Cello case and put it on her back. "Well lets go, but Vinyl I don't want to let anypony to know about us going out. Well not yet."
"It's cool Octy I understand you play for those fancy types of people, they hate 'fillyfoolers' and probably you would get fired for it. Am I right?"
"Ya, but that doesn't change the way I feel about you Vinyl" She walked up to Vinyl and gave her one more kiss. "Wow you didn't fall this time." Octavia gave a small giggle.
"Well of course, the only reason I fell was because I didn't expect you to kiss me while walking."
"Sure Vinyl, Sure." Octavia trotted out the door and headed to the elevator. "You coming Vinyl?"
"Yup on my way." She said with a smile on her face.
*~*~*
The two mares were walking up the stairs to the building where Octavia needed to be. Just as they reached the top of the stairs, "Hey Octavia!" A voice came out from behind them. When Octavia and Vinyl turned around she see it was Golden Harp.
"Oh no." Octavia whispered to herself.
Golden Harp looked at the pony to the right of her and gave a grin. "Hey Vinyl hows it going?" He waved his hoof to her.
"Uhh... pretty good. You?" She asked just noticing that Golden Harp isn't stuck up or snooty.
"Please Golden Harp act like a gentlecolt."
"Ya, ya 'Octy' just because I'm in the ensemble doesn't mean I have to be stuck up you know."
"Yes I know but at least can you dress correctly? Oh and call me that nickname again and I will kick you down these stairs"
"What do you mean?" Golden Harp looked down at his body spying that he is in his pajamas. "Oh... silly me forgot about that. But more importantly, are you and Vinyl going steady or what?"
"What! We're just friends!" She gave a small blush and turned around to hide it behind Vinyl.
"Sure, sure but lets go inside already I want to see who Lyra has been dating for the past two years."
"You mean she brought her today?" Octavia asked surprised. Leaving behind her cover and saw that Vinyl was confused on who she was talking about.
"Ya, I mean she said she would." Golden Harp looked in the sky, "To think she dated other mares..." He gave a small chuckle then looked at Octavia in the eye, "To think she can come out of the stable, if she can do that, why not you?" Golden Harp trotted past the two mares and instantly started to laugh as he saw Vinyl and Octavia's faces turn past crimson red.
The two mares shook their head and continued to walk in the building. "So Octy who is Lyra?" Vinyl asked somewhat interested.
"Well she is my ensemble member and my best friend, I knew her since kindergarten."
"Wow, even though you barley help me with my question now I really want to meet her" Vinyl gave a smile.
"Why?" Octavia asked suspiciously
"Duh so I can figure out what ticks you off." Vinyl gave a small smile.
I will need a pre-reader so please if anyone wants to help leave a comment.
another good chapter, i really enjoy anything with Vinyl in it please keep up the awesome work
''Yes, yes it dose Mrs. Scratch''
kinda funny, because two lines earlier vinyl says something about the good grammar of octy.
"You're such a silly filly, a angry Octy is a cute Octy... well a even cuter one."
an angry, an even
''Vinyl shook her head, "Yup" ''
uhm isn't shaking your head not denying something?
''Yes I know but at least can you at least not dress incorrectly?''
sounds not so good.
''The two mares shook there head and continued to walk in the building.''
their heads
well, that's for the misspellings and phrasings. I enjoy the plot so far, but I think Octavia is slightly OOC - besides she's in love and such.
I'm looking forward to the other chapters.
84214thanks chapter five will be out a little late because holiday and stuff but I'll try a little holiday special and such.
84223 Thanks a lot I owe you one.
84223 oh and shaking your head most of the times means no but it can be yes to.
84303
learning never stops :D
Oh Vinyl, you and your threats of death.
Aside from that and your childish manner, what's not to love?
Pretty good chapter here, the story is progressing well anyways.
84223
That's kind of funny. Octavia and Vinyl don't really have established personalities, they're pretty much blank slates.
We most commonly see the ones that the fans have created for them, which would be a sort of snooty and stuck up Octavia, and a carefree and somewhat dim Vinyl. With each author they vary a little bit, and that's good. Technically, Octavia could be the carefree spirit and Vinyl could be the elegant snob, but that's not done very often, for obvious reasons.
Still, I digress, they can really be like whatever the author represents them as. They don't have anything in the show to really represent how they would act, so they can be written in numerous ways. They don't have any guide lines to follow.
88095 couldn't said it better my self
88095
well then i'll accept her little foolish personality, although it doesn't fit a classical musician. and yes i'm saying this as a musician and a person who has many friends - and i don't have a doubt that they will count to the best musicians in germany. believe me if i say that musicians (as me) can get snobish, wise guyish (meehh) and VERY annoying. but they aren't silly, or act like men, although they're women (well now i mean the lack of empathy, regarding octavia).
91285
It may very well not fit the common perception of a classical musician, this is true, but that doesn't really hold any meaning. Classical musicians may be perceived one way, a stereotype if you will, snobbish and up tight. Yet, how many are like that? You can say yes many of them are, they fit the description, and I will have no reason to doubt you because I don't know any personally. But I know for a fact that no one is the same. Similarities? Yes. The same? No. You can't stand there and claim that Octavia does not act how others in her profession do. You are saying she does not conform to the stereotypical view held by many others, and she doesn't here, but you can't say that she doesn't act like other musicians do. Do you know all other Classical Musicians personally? I'm going to assume that's a no. You don't know how they act, you see the portrayal of them, but not what they do besides that. For all we know, you and I, Octavia acts just like some other world renowned classical musician. We don't know that man (or woman) personally, so we wouldn't know how he would act when he's not in front of fans or playing music, or living life in general.
There is a good probability that some musicians that share her profession act like her, not every thinks the same. Some could very well be 'foolish' yet still be seen as geniuses and musical prodigies. All I'm really saying is that you can't say they don't act 'silly'. You don't know that, you're basing that off of those you know and the common view of others. Unless proven that all Classical Musicians think and act the same, there is no reason that they can't be a bit silly or foolish. It's who they are, they don't have to fit the bill to be Classical prodigies.
91363
I didn't say they all act in the same way, but they wouldn't act THAT silly. I'm not going to lie, I enjoy this story very much, but I can't stand the way how she acts so naive and is so oblivious of everything (that matters in between the relationship of her and Vinyl). I know, I maybe seem very stubborn and like a guy, who can't really order his thoughts, but I can't say everything I'd like to, mostly because of lacking knowledge in the English language.
Anyways, my point is only the horrible ingenuousness of Octavia, not only in this chapter, but also in the next.
Spoiler ahead people!
In the next chapter she forgets totally about the story, which Vinyl told her and the orchestra, as well as Golden Harp, if I'm remembering right. If you love someone, or at least can't stop thinking about her/him you'll absorb everything she talks about (well, at least if you're respectful and listen). Vinyl talks about the blaze, which ends up in taking her into jail. How could someone's mate possibly forget something like this? I can remember the stories of how my first crush met her first boyfriend - something you shouldn't even care about.
Anyways, "She had a really bad past because of her eyes, that's why she wears her glasses." that's from chapter six, after Lyra mentioned the glasses. This made me stumble. Because six lines later she couldn't remember anymore. Well... ugh, I don't want to talk about this. This was just the best example to show, what i originally meant, although chapter six wasn't released, as I wrote my comment, that was exactly what I meant.
Once again an excuse from me, being as stubborn as I am, but I really should do something better with the time at 0:45 AM. I'd enjoy to write in German though, it'd be way easier to criticize and to improve my critics, as well as to motivate the writer. Anyways, have a good day, both of you.
I see where you are coming from, and I'm sorry if I came off as rude.
I do understand your gripes with her character. It does seem kind of off doesn't it? But, the ultimate decision on how a character acts or thinks is the authors. He/she is the only one who truly knows the characters through and through, and knows their flaws, their imperfections. Each creates the character to their own whim, and well, we can't change that. Octavia may have memory loss, or just a bad memory for all we know. As for the love thing... well, you've got me there.
Anyway, again, I'm sorry if I came of as rude. I was just trying to state my train of thought. I can see how it'd be difficult not being too familiar with English, I don't know that feeling, but I can sympathize. Now, regardless of whether or not those last few sentences were laced with sarcasm - I cant tell - Thank you, and have a good day as well
91579
You didn't offend me, but I was only kind of annoyed of myself, because I couldn't word myself properly (is that even grammatically correct!?). That results in anger and that finally in bitching, flaming, whatever.
For an answer, yeah it seems kind of off, but dealt with it, as well as accepted it. So I accept that it's the choice of the author (Ugh I woke up after 5 hours of sleep, I don't even know why and admitting something is really not my thing).
Ah and the last sentences weren't laced with sarcastic (and a new phrase for my vocabulary), I just wanted to apologize, for my arrogance, but I just can't perceive a classical musician but being stubborn or at least with a little bit of too much self-confidence (I had many absolutely pointless discussions with one of those highly talented students, about god, nuclear energy, politic and even worse, music genres [oh yes.]).
Well that are my sights and aspects of a classical musician. We'll see, if the author ends up in explaining the memory loss of Octavia.
And last but not least, after all I'm on this page to improve my English, so this discussion was not that bad.
Now, I really have to get back to sleep, Sylvester is coming up and I really don't want to fall asleep in that night.
92157
Yep, I completely understand you.
(Hmm, I do believe that is correct... well, maybe instead of 'myself' you use 'my thoughts'... But whatever, it looks fine to me).
That is actually the first thing that pops into my mind when I think of classical musicians, and no apology is necessary. Everyone has their own views and opinions on everything, and you needn't apologize for voicing yours. Personally, I think more people need to do that on this site, we need more comments like these. (Well, comments that are on topic anyway >_>)
I've had debates like that with some off my friends. They can get real annoying real fast, especially when you both have different views and are adamant in defending them.
I'm glad, or I hope, that this has helped with your English. You can only get better by using it anyways.
Sorry if I'm being really oblivious, but what in the world is a Sylvester?
92327
I really had to laugh because of that question, but well I looked it up and it's called New Year's Eve in English - I just thought that it could be used in English as well, but... ee-nope.
Well, looks like I couldn't find any rest - anyways, was a nice conversation
I would pre read but i found this story to l8 its all ready complete.
