This story follows Lessons for the Teacher, but it can also stand alone nicely.

After the reformation of Sunset Shimmer, the Mane Six united their powers against all manner of threats. Then, Twilight Sparkle joined their number, and over time the bonds between the Mane Seven have become stronger than ever.

They have called upon their power to aid their friends, to protect the innocent, and even to defend their world.

Never have they called upon their power out of anger, or to seek revenge.

Until now.

Okay. That was one of the best twists I've seen in quite some time. I'm curious, though, to know how this fits with "The Secret Apprentice," assuming the two exist in the same continuity.

Ri2

...Okay, this looks like it's going to some very dark places. I love it and want more.

Also, Twilight was hoping to have kids? Um, how? She and Sunny are...eh, you know what, never mind. Not important.

Ahem. I have the perfect quote for this.

"He who fights monsters should see to it that he himself does not become a monster." — Friedrich Nietzsche

It’s a little unsettling when your girlfriend’s assassin has your face.

Good points about being unable to stop the others' involvement if they're truly determined.

And that last line:

Together, they went to the nearby chapel. Luna closed the door after them.

Are chapels in hospitals a common thing? I've never really been in a hospital long enough to know if they have rooms set aside for religious prayer. Not to mention it wouldn't make sense for the two of them to completely leave the building just to find a quiet place to talk.
Or is this a completely different kind of chapel?

9064412
Yes, many hospitals, especially those sponsored by or connected to religious organizations, contain small nondenominational chapels. Given what goes on in a hospital, it’s hard for me to imagine a more appropriate place for prayer. (I myself am an atheist, but I recognize religion is profoundly important in human society.)

9063635
Different continuity. If this story works out the way I hope it will (for plots and characters can be slippery customers some days), it will be the start of a new series of tales.

...and thank you.

9064062
The Freudian analyses just kind of write themselves, don’t they?

Plenty of people have asked the “if Sunny and Sunny go at it, is it sex or masturbation?” But in this case, one wonders, how much of it is homicide, and how much is suicide? How much of this is true revenge, and how much is buried self-loathing?

9064275
Oh? You’re sad she lived? :raritywink:

Actually, though, I did consider her being killed outright. But upon reflection, I felt that would be a cop-out. No matter what happens next, Sunset will have to face Twilight about it. And anyway, the literary world has more than enough women stuffed in refrigerators. Since she’s alive, Twilight will be part of what is to come.

9063888
Oh, yes, there will be darkness.
There will also be light.
Time will tell whether I attain the balance I desire. This is a “twilight” tale in many ways.

9065198 Was that a Kingdom Hearts joke?

9065235
Well, I had not been thinking deliberately along those lines, but family members have been exposing me to the Kingdom Hearts story, so perhaps on some level... :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

Ok, wow you really need to make sure this is a continuation please

Ri2

9065174
I HATE women stuffed in fridges. It's a horrible trope. Thanks for avoiding it.

Well I do believe a message was sent. And that sunset is expected not to mention that twilight's own prognosis indicates that this world's version knew not only where to shoot to do the least amount of damage but wasn't after twilight either, I honestly think that revenge is actually best case scenerio.

Ri2

Wait, were Sunset and Twilight feeling each other up in public?

Sunset's right, those were all lies thrown at Fluttershy. Her family can't be perfect since Zephyr Breeze is in it.

So, Sunset was found as an orphan by a lake in Equestria? Why does she think her doppleganger will be waiting for them there?

Oho! Now we know exactly why Sunset feels so guilty about this - why she feels it's her fault.
Nicely written.

I like this Fluttershy of yours. She feels like she's got wisdom, an inherent sort of goodness, and inner strength while still reading like Fluttershy. To my eyes, at least.

9072249
No. Sunset’s mind drew parallels between sex and death in her dream, in the process blending memories of lovemaking and violence into something truly horrific.

Poor Zephyr, nobody loves him! :rainbowlaugh:

Sometimes, when everything goes to hell, a person will seek some form of grounding in their personal history; an object from the past that always brought comfort, or a specific activity containing the emotion they need, or someplace of great personal significance. Not quite regression, but drawing upon the past for balance while evaluating the present and future.

Sunset is such a person. In her case, apparently when she was at her worst moments in Equestria, she would go to the place where she was found. Where it all started, as it were. Having observed the similarities between parallel Twilights, Celestias, and so forth, she believes that since that is where she would seek perspective if she had just shot / maybe murdered an innocent person, probably this is where her human-born counterpart would be.

9073304
Thank you. I am of the opinion that Fluttershy is a vastly underestimated character in both worlds. It is a difficult thing to be both strong and gentle. Fluttershy’s gentleness is plainly visible. Her strengths are easy to overlook in most contexts, especially by herself. At least, in my eyes.

I guess Human Sunset was trying to kill Pony Sunset?

Ri2

9073494
Well, yeah, but how does she know her human self was an orphan found near a lake? The parallels between worlds aren't exactly one to one.

9074394
She doesn’t, really. Not 100%. But consider: even though Twilight Sparkle wasn’t Principal Celestia’s prize pupil in this world, she was still a daughter of Twilight Velvet and Night Light, and still under the guidance of Cadence (in a sense).

So with so many parallels in people’s parents’ names, schools vs. kingdoms, and so forth, Sunset’s playing the odds as she perceives them, and trusting her instincts for the rest.

And you’re quite correct, they aren’t exactly one to one. She’s going to be reminded of that little detail in a little while, herself.

It's a better conclusion than I'd assumed at first.

9077442
Well, thank you. One of the advantages of dealing with characters who are both smart and essentially compassionate.

THANK you. This actually addresses how Human Sunset’s life is affected by Pony Sunset’s presence.

9077942
It could have been interesting, I admit. Not just hiding the body and dealing with the guilt later on, but also facing Twilight about it later, and her reaction to what they had done. Seeing how it affected the relationship between Sunset and Twilight... not to mention the Rainbooms as a whole. It could easily have torn them all apart, in a variety of ways. Friendships shattering over time, tortured dreams, self harm... who knows? :pinkiegasp:

But I had someplace i wanted to go with this tale, and this was the best way to get there, I think. Glad you’re still enjoying it.

Ri2

9078171
...Yyyyeah, glad it didn't go that far.

Is this the end?
Short but good.

You my friend...did a wonderful job finishing this story! This final chapter was, at least in my opinion, creative, emotional, comical at certain points yet still focusing on the serious tone of the plot and most of all, has a very heartwarming and comical resolution. It really makes you wonder what the situation of the human Sunset is in EQG. And aw far as fanfics go, this is one my new fav Sunset meets Sunset fics! Also are considering making a sort of sequel focusing on human Sunset’s transition into the world of Equestria? If so, i would definitely read that from start to finish! :pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

You ended that well for human Sunset.

She dreamed of unicorns.

9092623
Thank you so much!

And I am planning to continue the adventures of human-born Sunset. This is the second of three continuities I have planned.

(EDIT: Sorry, four continuities. I forgot to count my comic book timeline. :moustache:)

9092717
She did; and she is not alone. I am so very glad you liked it.

“So, that was fun,” Pinkie perked. “Who’s for Chinese?”

Never change, Joke- I mean Pinkie! Yeah, Pinkie...

Great read. I always thought that meeting your alternate must be a little bit stressful, but also really interesting. In time, it might even be fun to meet your double. This story really conveyed the whole gamut of emotions. Nicely done.
