Codex Ex Equus

The writing account of Deus Ex Equus.

E

This story is a sequel to Changeling Courtship Rituals

After many years of battle, Queen Chrysalis has finally defeated Twilight Sparkle.

To Twilight's surprise, she discovers that to changelings, this means they are now married. However, she has some thoughts about this...

***

A reboot/remake of Changeling Courtship rituals, where Twilight reacts in a much more normal way, rather than like a sitcom character.

Seeing Queen Chrysalis after clicking "Feed" was... not what I expected. But appropriate.

Well written enough for a thumbs up but slightly disappointing.

Lol,an April Fools story but a realistic one too.

I'm going to have to read the proper two stories yet again now, aren't I, to shake the sadness this one leaves behind?

I don't think I've particularly mentioned it before, by the way, so I'll also take the opportunity to say that I utterly adore how you write Queen Chrysalis

A certain amount of deviation from normal reality may be required for a story to work. That isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Well that was depressing. But then laughed to tears at the authors comments. So it balances out.

Man I can’t wait for that 1,650,000 word epic. Sounds like it’ll be a thrilling read.:rainbowlaugh:

Is that 23 chapters or 23 stories

I actually forgot what day it was. Thanks for reminding me.

nah, i like the original way more

(try to remember what today is)

April 2nd?
in Ireland at least

... that was sad.

I am sad.

I could go down the list about how wrong you are, but I think you already know by now.

*reads story* *reads authors note*
"and THERES the april fools joke*
i remember reading changeling courtship rituals and pony courtship rituals as they came out
(moar story food needed)

Tobe honest, this is more satisfying. Chrysalis realizes she done fucked up, and removes herself from Twilight's life.

This is so much better. What I actually expected going into the first one.

Well, maybe not Chrsyie giving up so thoroughly and so quickly, but still.

Holy Jesus I love you so much. This was really well done, though I will say that I knew it was gonna happen. Still pretty good.

Needs a followup where a drunken Chrysalis cries on a bemused, but diplomatic Celestia.

8836119
That absolutely needs to happen.

I don't get it, what does this have to do with Easter?
;p

8836073
You stop! Chrysalis loved Twilight, and Twilight destroyed her completely! :fluttershysad:

And this is why I never listen to people who complain about lack of realism.

I'm still mad at Cadence for the end of the previous stories so...

Eeeeeehh~~~~~~~

1rst April... :v

8836307
Shhhh, it's all going to be okay.

Honestly I kinda liked this. It could be interesting if instead of the changelings "never being seen again" Chrysalis tried to learn pony ways in secret and then woo Twilight as a pony. (Though that would make it an actual story rather than a one-off gag.)

I've seen april's fools stories/chapters/articles that made me laugh, some that left me neutral, even some that frustrated me.

But I think this is the first time I had one that just made me sad. :pinkiesad2:

I'm conflicted.

So good job, I gues? :derpytongue2:

Sucks to be Chryssi. But seriously she should have known better. You hunt for eggs on Easter not purple ponies.

I know what day it is, but this actually the beginnings of a very good sci-fi twist ending story commenting on the nature of cultural context.

That... was actually pretty good, if a little short.

I think I wouldn't even mind a sort of a mixture of both stories, where Twilight would still go for, but would also act a bit more more realistically.

Ri2

That was sad. Nice April Fool's prank.

Huh. I thought I knew what I was getting into when I started reading this, did not quite turn out as I expected... Still loved it though! WOO HEARTBREAK THE VILLAIN!!!

No wonder my Mother says I have no romance in my soul.

Oh no this is way too sad, does this Chrysalis ever get her own happy ending?

8836073
You have a list about...how wrong he is for enjoying the original more?

Just let people enjoy things dude.

8836304
Nothing, yesterday was a very unique day one that apparently won't happen again for another 30 years or so I think someone said yesterday. It was Easter AND April Fools day somehow.

So I legit find this to be a far, far more interesting start of a story than the original — which, I'll admit, I gave up on after the third chapter. Everyone just acted so silly in that one, like they all knew they were just characters in a story. The style of comedy just very much wasn't for me, which sucks because I found the premise super interesting! I wanted to read a story about this premise. I wish this wasn't a gag and Chrysalis didn't just give up forever. :ajsleepy:

April second. That's what day it is. Go get a late pass.

23 part, 750 chapter, 1,650,000 word epic

...Austraeoh?

8837146
It's a long ongoing joke I have with him.

Chrysalis: Twilight, we R iz mareed.

Twilight: BUCK NO!!! *BLAM BLAM BLAM!!* (Twilight has a shotgun, because she does.)

Chrysalis dies from syphilis.

The End!

Roger Ebert's review: Still a better love story than "Twilight".

:trollestia:

That makes more sense, it just seemed really mean spirited is all.

Alondro #43 · Apr 2nd, 2018 · · 1 ·

And in the end, it didn't matter. She never saw Queen Chrysalis, or any changeling at all, ever again.

And this was for the best, since they were never ruined by a horribly paced, instant reformation, never getting a backstory nor any real idea how their society worked or moved or... anything really... before they were suddenly transformed into Skittles Bugs that looked like a 5-year old's idea of crossing a scarab beetle with a pony.

:trollestia:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

So thanks to this I actually discovered your other fics, so thanks! Also, I know it's an April fools joke buuut I wouldn't mind reading a longer story that tried to continue this, just by removing the part where it says she never sees a changeling again?

I mean there's changeling divorce or changeling alimony? Imagine Celestia's court if they suddenly receive 10 barrels of goo as for twilight and are like 'whaaa? what's this for? Oh twilight is technically married but separated... to chrysalis?!??

This one may be more realistic...but I like the other one better.

Guessing it's still April first for where you are then, at least when you posted this that is.

That said, it certainly is more realistic, even if it's a shame it ends that way... Mostly because I don't think that would stop Chrysalis that easily, perhaps at first, but I'm certain she would come to the conclusion later on that if she can be misguided in such a way, that certainly the same can happen to Twilight, or that perhaps Twilight still sees her as little more then some kind of monster because of their past and decides to try and court her the pony way to see if she even can feel the same way and so forth, plenty of options there at least.

That said, it's a good joke with the end part... Or the whole story if that's the case, I almost would have believed it if not for that ity bitty line you put there at the end.
