Interesting

Would love to see where this goes

“What I'm trying to say is: I may not be able to fix this.” She looked ahead with a brokenhearted sigh. “And the Sunset Shimmer we have come to know and love is gone.”

Hopefully she can.
I like this story so far.

Good story, I'm so anxious to see where it goes.

I hope princess Twilight can restore Sunset memories, she got so far, and if she lose all their memories, all that she learned and most important of all, her friends, just isn't fair.

I'm loving the story and for my vote, I'd say every other day. I can't wait to see more. Have a 👍 and a 🌮

Good so far. Will also be interested to see where it goes.

Once a week is a good release cycle for those who check FIMFic once a week. There's no rush to get them all up sooner. Those that really like it will keep checking back and get used to the schedule. It'll be less pressure on you too.

So I know its a bit early to tell, but it looks like Wallflower Blush won't figure through much of the story until the end. I was never satisfied with the quick pace of her turnaround, but what can you do in the span of one t.v. special, lol? It would be a bit of a disappointment to see Sunset lose everything she gained from all the hard work she's put in towards her redemption. I wonder too if in her reverting back to years prior, will she return back to the evil, arrogantly, power-hungry pony she was before? Will be fun to stick around and find out.

This story is so amazing!

THIS STORY IS GREAT

thoe you are forgetting one very important character

ray her pet thats kinda something that does need to be addressed

Her turnaround wasn't nearly as bad as others (ie. last week's special).

You do just that :raritywink:

Can't forget Ray!

I was kinda sad not to see him, or even a tank for him, in the special. Maybe, he's on the far wall. We've only really seen Sunset's apartment from one angle.

He won't appear here, but does get mentioned.

I both like and dislike this story. The plot is gold, my issue is this, he memories are gone, but personality and emotions are seperate, to me, she should still be her kind self, she would remember being Celetia's student and how she was nasty but the personality and emotions she gained would stay

Well this was odd. I'm rather sure this is the first time I have ever rooted for Starlight in any confrontation with Sunset.

I'm really not sure how she is going to deal with not being the smartest and, possibly, the most powerful mare in the room with Twi and Starlight.

When and if Sunset gets her memories back she is going to be so upset with herself.

9041833
Im not 100% sure, but I thank personality and emotions are tied to experiences, which are memories. It’s why Alzheimer’s patients are so different from their normal selves.

Couple of curios things. First is why sunset didn’t react to twilight being an alicorn. From the time of her memories there ir should only be two alicorns. Second is the reasoning behind not telling sunset she lost her memories. She will figure it out eventually unless they plan to keep her prisoner for life with no acces to newspapers or calendars and when she does she will feel lied to and betrayed (and she’d sorta be right). Would like to know their reasoning for not being upfront about it.

That will be touched upon next chapter.

Because the plot demands it! (jk lol!) No, Celestia is just trying to be gentle with Sunset. She either doesn't know how Sunset would handle the news, or knows she can't handle the news. This is also only meant to be a short-term solution. Just to buy them enough time to prepare what they're going to say to Sunset and set her up to receive whatever help she needs.

Is it the wrong thing to do? Probably.

I'm rather sure this is the first time I have ever rooted for Starlight in any confrontation with Sunset.

What? Not a Starlight fan? It's okay, I usually cheer for Sunset, myself.

Yes, Sunset will have a lot of apologizing to do if/when this is all done.

i have some issues here

1. hiding things from sunset is wrong she should be told the truth about things

2. sunset not knowing well it removes all the drama potential of sunset feeling lost in her own life

3. while going to eqeustria makes sense it cuts out the impact things have on her actual friends

1. hiding things from sunset is wrong she should be told the truth about things

Should she? I'm not disagreeing or agreeing, but, we don't always do the right thing. Or, sometimes, we do the wrong thing, thinking it's the right thing.

2. sunset not knowing well it removes all the drama potential of sunset feeling lost in her own life

Possibly... But, I feel I can't write that without having all the characters brooding (and no one wants to read that).

3. while going to eqeustria makes sense it cuts out the impact things have on her actual friends

We may have to wait and see on that one...

you do have this tagged as a drama and here is another issue by not telling her its basically trying to sweep her entire life under the rug so celesstia can play pretend

I can’t wait to see the part where Starlight either blows some shit up or does some super complex spell work and sunset is forced to eat her words

"I don't know. All I do know is Sunset is not the Sunset we know. And, right now, Celestia is the only pony who knows Sunset best. Until I have reason to do so otherwise, I will trust her judgement in this matter."

And how well did Celestias method turn out the first time?

“I'd like to bring Starburst and Moondancer in on this, if you'll let me. Both of them are fluent in Old Ponish and enjoy a good puzzle.”

Should be Sunburst. Why not give it to Sunset to solve? She is the one who figured out it was a code to begin with.

Is Sunset related to Sunburst in this fic?

I’m surprised Nopony has made a different alternate ending fic
As TvTropes pointed out, if Sunset hadn’t jumped in front of the beam, her friends would have lost all their memories of high school, leaving them as middle/elementary school kids in teenage bodies

That has such story potential

If anypony does make that fic please send it I would read that

9059557
Not in this one. I am working another story where they are, though.

How will Sunset get her memories back and return to her friends?

This feels like one of those stories where the protagonist doesn’t remember their life and someone comes up saying they are someone to them when they are not.

Celestia keeping quiet about it is what irks me the most. True that without it there would be no story, but this seems like they’re out right lying to Sunset. She was her mentor and instead of learning from past mistakes, she’s making new ones by pushing her student away, something I find Sunset will feel, maybe not anger, but something. Sunset redeemed herself and Celestia pushes her away.

Twilight also seems out of hand with the scolding, the chores and with keeping Sunset’s journal. She may be the Princess of Friendship, but that still doesn’t give her the right to treat like Sunset is her subject or something. Hiding who she really is will only hurt her when she remembers. No one said anything about who she was.

I’m rambling and my thoughts are jumbled so let me list it out.

I like your story. Feeling emotions that are not boredom is the mark of an engaging story

I dislike Twilight and Celestia in the way they are going about helping Sunset. She already learned about friendship and is the better person. Them keeping her from knowing is like lying to her and it is. They are simply taking advantage of her condition in my eyes if they act like she hasn’t change.

Celestia is just the worst if she just sent Sunset away instead of sitting down and explaining to her what has happened.

If Sunset gets her memories back and Dhe is not mad that Celestia pretty much pushed her away then something is clearly wrong.

Anyways. I like the story and hope for more updates. I don’t like the direction I think it’s headed, but I’ll wait and see.

Edit:
“We don’t always do the right thing” is something I read in a previous comment. I hope that this holds true in this story. It would make it better if Sunset was mad being held information from since it is her life.

Also that they swept her life under the rug also seems to be true here. That’s like denying a person their name and identity.

I think Wallflower is hiding something that she's worried that the girls will find out

Hope this story has a happy ending with Sunset returning to Canterlot High with her memories back

9082055
She's not hiding something. She's experiencing something she herself does not notice and I know what it is.

Ah, so that's where the story is heading. That's good at least, I was afraid it was heading in a more "past sunset is now twilights student" direction and the whole memory thing was just a plot point to get it there. Interesting idea and curious how it plays out.

Let me guess, Wallflower now has Sunset’s memories and her headaches are likely caused by her brain trying to sort them out. “We” happens to the collective pronoun where Sunset/Wallflower are preferring because they are two identities inside one body or mind.

I like the story, but it still irritates me.

A glimpse of the old Sunset we know and love, in addition to her slowly opening up little by little really makes this chapter all the more of a fun read! Keep up the good work! Patiently waiting to what you have in store for us. :pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

9092588
Pretty much what you said, but I've got to ask. Does Sunset's body not remember how she studied all those forbidden spells? I'm sure that can't be part of brain memory but muscle memory. A unicorn must feel the spell they are attempting since everything you do needs a feedback.

this =/= the "greater good", Twilight - was it spite

If Wallflower does have Sunset’s memories, then that explains why Sunset’s memories didn’t return to her

The only question is, how did that happen? And how can they return the memories from Wallflower back to Sunset?

Very nice. And heartbreaking. Can’t say many stories have me on an emotional rollercoaster. I just hope Wallflower isn’t dumped when this is all over and Twilight has the courage to tell Sunset the truth.

9093526
That is a very good and serious question. What’s more, both Wallflower and Subset’s memories are getting out of control. Wallflower is starting to think she like Sunset.

Hopefully they’ll find a way to fix this

So, does Twilight believe that she can just keep whats happening to Sunset a secret from her. Everyone seems to know but her.

Truth be told I don’t see Celestia feeling sorry for leaving Sunset with Twilight. No visits or letters. I thought she wanted to make peace or at least spend some time with her to make up for lost time.

Twilight says it’s for the best to keep things quiet but, that’s not how things work. At the rate things are going, Sunset will be bitter towards the princess’s once she finds out the truth no matter how things are spun. You don’t just keep important things about a persons life from them. Am I to expect that, once it’s all over, Twilight just says it was for her own good and Sunset accepts that with a smile and I forgive you.

They are literally keeping her true self from her and replacing it with another. I’m sure that two sets of memories new and old will do some harm. What does she go with. Her old life with all that she done and lessons she’s learn or her new life where her mentor threw her to become another’s problem. Her not yet friend treating her like a student instead of the friend she’s suppose to be teaching her friendship yet not being a friend herself. Hypocrisy is strong in the Royals.

By this point I’m just hanging on to see if things get better cause so far all their actions have just got me mad. I like the story to some degree and hate to see Sunset become abused. Removed from the familiar to work in a castle, lied to time and time again, no comfort from Celestia and a new personality being crafted.

I’m reaching and over analyzing things at this point. Just my opinion since I’m salty over their actions.

Keep on writing since others will find your story enjoyable.

Hide the truth from her. Yeah, that's a brilliant idea which never backfires OH WAIT

Ri2

I enjoyed how three of the girls immediately became detectives.

“No, you're not!” Sunset raised in her seat, “I know every assistant and everypony on the palace staff. But, I don't know you .” She pressed an accusatory hoof into the princess's chest.

Should this be "hand", since they're currently in EQG world?

You know Twilight, the longer Sunset doesn’t remember, the more people she will insult. The more people she insults, the more she will feel bad when she gets her memories back. And when she gets he memories back, she will resent you. She could had made amends with Ballad.

Great chapter by the way, I like how Sunset feels something is wrong and Applejack is just doing what she needs to do. Though if Applejack was reluctant to have Sunset work on the farm, than that means Twilight put her. No matter how good her intentions are, Twilight seems to forget who Sunset was and how many years have passed. Sunset may not have been to Ponyville in her youth, but that doesn’t mean other ponies won’t move in and recognize her. This chapter goes to show how badly things will get in the future and the miscalculation on Twilight’s and Celestia’s behalf.

And for that I thank you. May not be the direction you are going, but that’s what it looks like to me at his point.

Keep the chapters coming. :)

Why not just TELL HER THE TRUTH!

9100303
You don't tell the truth to a person with amnesia. Sunset doesn't have amnesia, she just lost years of her life up to before she even heard of the mirror. She can still remember people from her past because she to her, its the last thing she remembers.

This can't end well.

9100802 You don't tell a person with amnesia the truth? Which medical journal did you pull that from? Even so, as you've said, Sunset doesn't HAVE amnesia. So that doesn't even apply.

9101506
Sorry, hard to phrase it. You don’t tell a person who they were right of the bat. They have to slowly discover little things they did since muscle memory and habits don’t tend to go away. Not sure how to explain it.
