When Rin Okumura - the half human bastard of Satan and exorcist in training- encounters the legendary Nyarlathotep, he gets transported to the world of Equestra.
Now Rin must find his friends and travel back to Earth.
Unfortunately, the door back is at the very bottom of Equestria's hell Tartarus. Now to get back Rin has to do what he does best. Killing more demons!

They traditionally aren't, but in BE it seems like anything supernatural is classified as a demon including Seraphims (which are angels in The Bibel) and the Shinto gods of Japan.

This looks like a good beginning. I'll be looking forward to the next parts! Are you strictly going off the manga or are you incorporating elements from the anime and movie as well? As for using Lovecraft, well, that's the beauty of fan works, you do have some leeway...

Never seen the movie. The only real differences about the anime and the manga were the origin of the sword and Rin's mother who we still don't know much about. The brother Yukio Okumura is also still human but seems to have inherited some sort of power with his eyes that he's keeping secret. They recently did a second anime season that covers The Impure King arc of the manga in replace of the original ending they had for the anime. I recommend giving that a watch if your worried about any differences in character development or continuity between this and the first season of the anime.

No romance planned otherwise I would have set this in an anthro verse. However, Rin likes Shemi and Fluttershy reminds him of Shemi so there is that connection.

The first hint was probably the bit where he attacked the Herald. The part where he, in the same encounter, both held off explaining and explained, in detail, his race and history. Following that, his repetitive use of unfunny one-liners in his apparent bloodlust for all things non-pony. In precedent, he would've argued that he wasn't a bad guy, while doing combat with Rainbow, in the midst of which, he would've heard her accusing him of an attack. So, the character and encounters feel a bit off from canon portrayal of characters Blue Exorcist.
Nyarlathotep was done almost perfectly, except for him being explicit in his motivations; he would send someone to another dimension to have them rethink their decision , assuming he requires their assistance in one of his many plans, but he wouldn't send their friend with them. While he's the only Outer God that's interested in mortal affairs, it's pretty much exclusively to implicitly dick them over.
