Magic has slowly been flowing into the world. Ever since the appearance of Twilight Sparkle's crown in Canterlot High, more and more magical incidents have occurred. So far the Mane Seven has done their best to keep this contained but sometimes they are simply not available. Sometimes they can't be reached.
When an artifact is found by a student which has pony symbols and strange writing on it, its origin is obvious. Remembering whats happened before, the quick thinking student brings the item to Principal Celestia, and now its up to her to decide, how to handle this.

Sweet story and that's funny how the item was just a "tourist bauble" as you had Principal Celestia say that, I would love to see what would happen if some gems or pony money ended up in Human Equestria and was found by Principal Celestia or Vice-Principal Luna, they could really use the money to help the school out I bet.
This needs a sequel and expansion.

Okay, now that I've actually read it...it's decent. Not the best I've ever read, but also far from the worst.
My whole 'toss it into the portal' idea was brought up and disseminated, which is nice (I mostly left that comment because I was busy reading something else, and just went to the homepage to see if anything interesting was there for me to read later).
I would like to read a continuation, seeing Luna's 'exchange information and culture' program come to fruition.

The whole concept of just tossing it through the mirror vs going was a case of the principle effect, or i should say the principle of double effect. The ethical method for evaluating the permissibility of acting when one's otherwise legitimate act may also cause an effect one would otherwise be obliged to avoid.

Good story but there a small problem. Twilight never have any problems with speaking with EG-humans or reading books/the internet. Which kinda suggests that EG and Equestria use same or similar writing system and language.

BUT we also see 3 diffferent written languages. one symbol based, one squiggle based, and one thats close to english.
since it was a Replica its base language was the pictorgams, with the unicorn "squiggle" rather then the alphabet.
