Sequels1

This story is a sequel to Single Point of Failure

Love. It's a powerful feeling capable of toppling empires and bringing monarchs to its knees. It can make the sun shine brighter, the birds sing louder, and the world taste sweeter, but everything has its shadow.

A seemingly innocuous sentiment sends Twilight on a journey of discovery to find out just how deep the heart's rabbit hole can go, as she wrestles with that most dangerous aspect of love.

Ai yi yi... apparently Twi didn't internalize the one lesson she needed to from the last time.:facehoof: I mean, things like that do often take repetition in real life, but viewing it from an outside perspective really makes me wish she'd just get on with it and open up. And kind of makes me feel lousy for thinking that Crystal Empire one-liner was sweet.:twilightsheepish:

And on the subject of resetting, you'd think Rarity's disaster countdown would have already gone off in the last story. She really does come across, internally at least, as kind of a jerk about it. But as far as I can tell, she also continues to be right, so ehhh....

AJ's shock at recognizing Fancy!Twi was classic though.:rainbowlaugh:

8005012 Yeah... Twi is the sort who sometimes needs lessons hammered into her head twice before she learns (for example: "Lesson Zero", then "It's About Time") so I could see her being a bit dense about talking this over with AJ. But it's kind of painful to read all the same.

Well... if Twilight hasn't exactly made progress in this situation, at least it's lateral movement.

Crystal Princess Rarity's tone is a pretty good blend of the real Rarity and Twilight herself- nice touch.

Well, I guess it's progress that everypony is at least aware this is not a good idea. And Twilight opened up again!:pinkiehappy:

Why do I get the feeling AJ and Rarity tried this long before and it has to do with whatever Rarity is hanging over AJ's head?:unsuresweetie:

but then everything started happening so fast and before I knew it there were all these feelings…and then there were even MORE feelings!

This is a great ending point.
Though I would love to see more of this tineline, you set up some good... don't know the word for it but you have a good set up for when Twi becomes a Princess.
Either way I look forward to seeing what else you do.

I have to admit, having watched Twilight muddle through her emotions makes it all the more satisfying to see her finally reach the obvious answer (well, I suppose obvious when it's not happening to you).:pinkiehappy:

A lot of pretty funny bits too.:rainbowlaugh: Another benefit of making sure to give the whole cast their moments.

8058624 I think the word you're looking for is foreshadowing.

Although this is the end of the story, it is not the end of this continuity. There will certainly be more to come, and I hope everypony who came along for the ride will enjoy what's in store down the road.

8059633 I'll be waiting. Hope I catch it when you post it.

For Twilight’s sake, it all had to be perfect.

This day was going to be perfect~ :scootangel:

“Bet you ten bits you can’t knock down that tree!” Flutterdash snickered at Applejack behind her pink bangs while her rainbow tail swished casually behind her.

Who's FlutterDash

“What makes you more deserving of Applejack than me?”

You accept Applejack for being Applejack, in every dream you've had Rarity is trying to change her and Rairty has often said with disdain Applejack is dirty and messy. Honestly I'd be more worried if you said Rainbow Dash stole Applejack away from you, they are much closer and more like each other. Applejack appreciates her help but Rarity doesn't have a strong enough pull to get Applejack away from you Twilight.

she'd prefer the best Rarity

Rairty, Applejack is a hard worker your not, you're logic isn't very sound even in the rules of dream logic.

On the other side of the ballroom, Bulk Biceps shouted at the top of his lungs, “WATCH ME LIFT THIS TABLE!” He hoisted one of the buffet tables over his head with the trays still on it. Several caterers scrambled around him, desperate to bring it back down to earth but not sure how.

Fluttershy let out another giggle. She didn’t have much to compare a non-Pinkie party to, but this was certainly more fun than she’d had at the Gala. Tonight was a good night.

I like Bulk Biceps in every story he's in that I've read so far.

I'm still in the middle of it, but I just wanted to say - the way you put together the nightmare sequences is simply amazing. It's very evocative of actual nightmares I've had before - the way they work, how they're constructed... There was this one time when I dreamed I was being suffocated with a pillow, only to wake up and still be in the nightmare. It took me some 10-15 times to finally wake up for real.

Job well done, on that end. And the third time was absolutely fantastic. My worn-out, blackened heart skipped two beats when the realization hit me that she had fallen asleep at some point, and straight into her nightmare no less. It fits. It fits. It's dreadful in execution, and even thinking about it makes my chest tight. Congratulations.

Apparently, AppleJack was having a dream, too. Weird things happen in dreams, y'know? ;-] So why not Flutterdash?

Well, considerin'-'s Twilight doing this ta herself, it makes perfect sense don't it? Darn eerie too, the entire thang.

But in all seriousness, "dream logic" doesn't need to make sense to the rest of the world - the state it represents is internal, not external. In fact, considering it "logic" is inconsistent with the idea to begin with - "dream logic" need only keep the dream together, keep it consistent with itself. It hardly goes beyond that, nor should it... and the fun thing about it is that it partly does so by a literary device called "informed {whatever}" - something is so because we're told it's so; it doesn't need to make sense, the dreamer's mind accepts it a priori.

Besides, the whole idea is that Twilight is going through some things, and she's doing absolutely everything except facing it head-on - partly because she has no clue, and partly because she's refusing to accept it. As repressed and outright denied as it ends up, it's little wonder it shows up in her dreams instead.
