I'm in Love with the Muse

Her song makes my pen dance across the paper, causes sparks to flow from ink
Without her, poetry feels so empty and lifeless.
Without her, there is no fire to craft my words over the anvil.
So why does she always hide from me?
When the world beats down on me, she sometimes flees or gives a voice to my rage
Sometimes I wonder if she’s in love with someone else and spends every day with them when she’s not with me. Have I not appreciated her? Have I forgotten how to cherish her? Do my poems fail to meet her standards? Or have they ever been good at all?
I can’t own the muse. No one can. She’s free to come and go as she pleases.
She will inspire whoever is worthy of her. And then they are on their own; to now write the wonders she has shown them in the flickers of her eternal robes.
Every artist deserves to look upon her, to hold her only a moment
Before she bursts into blossoms and scatters to the wind
To fly where she wills.
If not to me, then to a better poet.
I have what she has shown me forever in my heart
And my heart moves my pen to write.
