Just so we're all clear, I'm putting on my glasses

E

After saving Camp Everfree, Sunset Shimmer just wants to kick and celebrate like any typical teenaged girl. Or at least as typical as one can be when you now possess magic powers that let you see into the hearts and minds of others.

But memories are a fickle thing, and when Sunset Shimmer runs into her ex-boyfriend, she soon discovers that even a memory can be deceptive.

Is this incomplete?

I'm no stranger to giving Flash a hard time in my own writing, but this was really sweet. Good job.

This was perfect. :pinkiehappy:
I so love Sunset and Flash. They are so freaking adorable. :raritywink:

FlashSet is my Equestria Girls OTP right now!

This was a lovely trip into the mind of Flash Sentry and the fact that memories are what we make of them and are not necessarily factual.

I love it when I click the like button and it goes up by 5

Wonderfully written.

Absolutely top-shelf, broheim. I'm not even going to cheapen it by slapping my ugly mug in the comments section with my usual 'Pirate Approved' thing; this story deserves better'n that, :ajsmug:

Now normally, I'm not a fan of this pairing, but you made it work here for me.:yay: A very sweet story.

“Guess it can be a little tricky to move on when she’s dancing over there with another guy,” she commented.

Been there, done that, ended up crowd surfing...

Nice story. A bit anticlimactic compared to how I imagine Sunset repairing her relationship with Flash (it's actually part of the basis for my own vision of the fifth movie), but sweet.

A nice and sweet little story. Good choice in cover art too, I think you should give credit to the talented Ponutjoe.

I SHIP IT :3

Though I prefer Sunlight, this was sweet!

I don't ship this... but I couldn't help but enjoy it. It was a beautiful story. Very well written.

I've never disliked Flash as much as others (though Princess Sunlight is still my favorite couple), but excellent job of writing Flash as a nice guy without being too generic. I know Flash never gets much screentime or development, and his romance with Twilight was pretty rushed, but I sometimes wondered about his and Sunset's time together. He was the one closest to her so saw more of the real her than most of the rest of the school. Sure, Sunset was nasty back then, but it wasn't all bad, or at least I hope in some ways Sunset wasn't all bad back then.

Even though he was mostly a running joke in the later EG movies, I'm glad the most recent one did kind of tie up the loose end of his sort of relationship with Princess Twilight, and I enjoyed how you expanded that into rekindling his relationship with Sunset, it felt very natural. Thank you for the fic.

I agree with you on most of what you said. Especially the parts about Flash being a nice guy and how he saw more of the real Sunset than the rest of the school did!

Huh.
So I'm definitely more of a fan of The Gay Ships™ but somehow you made me really enjoy this. I mean, I'm still all about Sunset x Twilight but this story makes me appreciate the Flash x Sunset ship a bit more and that takes skill.

It was a super nice story.

Bow chika bow wow?

The opening scenes made me think Sunset was going to go after Rarity.

That was cute. I liked that.

I may not like the pairing but cool story. A lot of good back and forth and very natural dialogue from all involved and though I would have liked a brief moment of Sunset/Flash interacting with Twilight/Timber, I can't really find cause to complain.

While it may seem like a bit biased I would favor a fic like this, being a Flashimmer fan myself, that's not just the reason I like this fic.

Flash is definitely an underrated character, especially because he's been given the unfortunate fame of being the "waifu stealer" of the fandom, but there's a lot more to him than that, both in this fic, and the films themselves. He's portrayed as talented, an optimist to the point of almost being a goof ball, but he has he boundaries and knows his limits, as it was HE that broke up with Sunset when the relationship turned sour, which is a good balance for him: Optimistic, but knows when to set boundaries. But, like in this fic, he's willing to recognize redemption when he sees that a person has changed.

Sunset herself, in turn, is one that has hidden depths as well, as this fic so gloriously pointed out. She's shown to be very regretful of her past, but that same regret can sometimes distort ourselves from the truth of our mistakes. When we make a hard enough mistake, we almost briefly let that mistake define us for a long time even after we try to move on, as a way to distance ourselves when we try to improve. But, as Sunset figured out, sometimes that perception of a mistake isn't always equal in everyone's eyes, it can distort the truth that we refuse to see in ourselves. Sunset may have been a bully, but she probably wasn't a bully 24/7, cause there must've been something that drew Flash to her when they became a couple.

This is WHY I'm really excited for Sunset's powers, because it allows her to be more empathetic towards others by seeing their feelings and emotions, and it turn become a better friend, or in this case, a better partner for a couple.

This fic took Flash and Sunset and gave them the chance that they needed to start over, and remind them WHY they feel in love with eachother in the first place, while routing out any doubts that plagues any bad break ups.

Well done good sir. Well done indeed.

I ship it so much!!!!! AGH! This was sooo cute!!!

There's admittedly one thing I was waiting for and got a little disappointed when nothing was made of it.

EG1, all the girls told Twilight that Flash was the one who ended the relationship between Sunset and him. They even wondered why she hadn't exacted horrible revenge yet.

This would've been a fine opportunity to take up that point. Even if it ends up not being true. Like, say, Flash told everyone in school he broke up with Sunset so that he'd look like a douche instead of her.

Or, for that matter, how he was the one who exposed her tricks to vice principle Luna to exonerate Twilight. He must have the memory of that as well. It would've been interesting to see his feelings during those moments.

It's AJ. It's AJ, through and through.

This was straight up adorable

I'm honestly expecting Equestria Girls to start pushing Flash and Sunset back together, and if they do, I hope it's half as well written as this fic is. Cause this fic was pure adorabetes. Much like everyone else, I too am a bigger fan of the SunLight, but I definitely have no issue with this ship, or TimberTwi, or whatever other relationship EQG makes canon~

Beautiful... absolutely beautiful, and I love how you portrayed Flash. I know people have given him a hard time because of how he had been depicted in the Equestria Girls movies, but I believe Legend of Everfree gave him some much needed character development. He's understood that he needed to move from Twilight due to circumstances beyond his control. He also knows that Sunset has changed from who she used to be back when she first came to live in the human world.

Sunset was portrayed in the same manner that I felt with Flash. She still regrets the person she used to be, but perhaps she was being too hard on herself and that things weren't as bad as she actually thought.

7638831

And no one bothered to tell Princess Twilight about it. And that's a bad sign. It's more or less saying the writers are banishing Princess Twilight from the human world forever. Since otherwise, it would VERY awkward if the lad she's attracted to, she told was told to "let go" of her IN HER ABSENCE.

That was great, I loved that it's more about explaining the past and the present realtionship between Sunset and Flash rather than just shipping. And quite a smart use of biaised memories.
However, I always thought that the reason why Flash didn't broke with Sunset in the first place is because he saw the loneliness of Sunset. She had left all what she knew, her home, her parents, her teacher etc, she must have felt lonely and have found some comfort with always-optimistic Flash. He recognized her loneliness and had tried so hard to help her, until he finally gave up, seeing all the mean things her girlfriend had done.

Wow!^_^

This is really well done here now.^_^

A really great and good fic too!^_^

By the only person who has a reliable way to communicate with her, no less.

And who gets to have Flash back in the end.

... You know, a cynical person might conclude that Sunset had an ulterior motive when she kinda sorta broke up what relationship Pony!Twilight and Flash had. From all we saw, she didn't, but it does look a little bad from a certain angle.

Of course, both of them could be remembering inaccurately: memories are fluid, and not only do we perceive past events in different lights according to what emotions we associate with them, but the brain tends to do its best to fill in stuff we have trouble remembering - essentially making up stuff that we think (often subconsciously) is "right" given the situation. (Which is why judges and lawyers really don't like eyewitnesses that much, compared to actual physical evidence).

7638838

One wonders if they're planning to reboot Equestria Girls as a pure "magical high school girl" show as a spinoff from MLP when the Ponies no longer bring in the bucks.

In short, he was trying to save Sunset from herself, and only gave up once it became clear it was doing more harm than good?

That's my headcanon, anyway. It explains why Flash was with Sunset without just going to "because he was helpless before her manipulation, like everyone else."

7639115

In short, he was trying to save Sunset from herself, and only gave up once it became clear it was doing more harm than good?

For me, it was not because he was doing more harm than good but rather seeing the good side of Sunset (wich is greatly describe here, her passion, her invovlment etc) slowly vanished to be replaced by her dark side (of the moon, I'll see you there :derpytongue2:).

And for Sci-Twi and Timber Spruce, I didn't hate the canon shipping. At least, they got some moment when they flirted and it seemed that they had some things in common that could lead to a romantic relationship. It was done far better than the Flash Twilight ship. I think that this 4th movie's aim was in part to correct past mistakes: Flash is a bit more developed for audience to start to like him (worked for me) and the love issue wasn't thrown out of nowhere.

What I hated is the fact that Sci-Twi and Timber got interrupted when they were about to make out. God that made me cringed. If you want to do something that will bring you hate, do it all the way. Don't end it like that, get them interupted by a third character, oddly oblivious of the situation. Like the Deadpool from X-men Origins: Wolverine. I hate him but the fact they got his mouth sewed and he wasn't able to talk and make jokes, which is why he is loved and so funny, was ballsy and I respect that they did it all the way.

“How long could it possibly take to make one pot of soup?” she shouted in annoyance.

“I’ll be there in a minute, I misread one of the steps,” Flash called out in return.

:rainbowhuh: Wow, that's epic fail, since there's only three steps involved in making tomato soup: dump it in the pot, pour in a can of water, and heat it up.

“Don’t touch that! I’m still eating that!” she barked once more.

Twenty minutes later, a giant space cockroach ate everything but her skin, then started wearing her like a suit. A Shimmer suit.

the eloquently-dressed fashionista

"Eloquence" is not a quality one usually assigns to clothing.

Thankfully, though, she discovered that Flash had become indisposed

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

That was a sweet, fun story. I'm glad to see some great SunFlash like this in the wake of Everfree.

Love, think you missed a thing. At first I thought I read it funny, but no, lol.
"There are you!"

This was a really nice little fic. Definitely a reminder that there are different perspectives do exist and not everything is remembered as you think.

7638838

Very true. Princess Twilight might still harbour some feelings for Flash and wishes that she could go and see him again, but then discovers that he has moved on from her because Sunset encouraged him to. Unless Sunset mentioned it through one of her messages to Her Highness via the magic journal, things could get really awkward.

Interesting, I could get on board with SunFlash as a possibility following the fourth movie.

“What’s the worst that could happen? They think you’re mind-controlling me again?”

You know, that makes me wonder. Movie 1, Sunset mind control people. Movie four Sunset gains mental powers. Could be a connection there.

Usually I avoid Flashlight stories like the plague because most of them are pretty much the same. I only give Flash a chance if he's paired with anyone else. Flash I will admit, I did not care for him at first because of the forced romance and found him bland as a Ken doll. Two more movies really did not help his case, but from what I'm hearing in the latest he's maturing a bit (if you love something let it go kind of way). Sometimes you have to throw characters like these a bone, but with this story you made him seem sympathetic in a good way.

kul

“You want to know what I think? I think you keep telling everyone that the relationship meant nothing because then it doesn’t matter that you tossed it away; that it was just another stepping stone in your plans,” Rarity pressed on with her analysis. “Because if it meant nothing, then losing it means nothing as well. You have less to regret and never have to spend a night alone in bed wondering ‘what if.’”

BRUH. Best line in this fic. Sunset still never get over her old self, and this realization is the nail that just fit right in the whole Flashshimmer ordeal.

7639902
Which sucks even more because I LIKED Twilight visiting the human world!!! Because in case anyone forgot, she considers the Humane 6 HER FRIENDS TOO!

I think this help cement in my mind my EqG OTP, they both hopeless dorks who love each other but are afraid.

I am so glad we are at the point in this fandom that the automatic hating of Flash Sentry is over. This was exceptionally sweet, I loved it!

7640609

Not having her come through the portal takes away a major plot point Equestria Girls established in the first movie.

7640679

I never hated Flash personally yet it took me a few watches of the first movie to like him. I always thought he was a character who had potential, yet the writers never gave it to him until Legend of Everfree. His portrayal in the new movie is exactly what he's been needing and I hope they continue on from there.

7641018

For me. It comes across less like 'you'll never have her' and more like 'mixed couples are bad'. I know that's crazy sounding out loud, but when they introduce stallion Flash Sentry at the end, it gives some unfortunate vibes.

7641025

I know what you mean. Fans were against Princess Twilight and Flash Sentry being a couple because the Mane Six were designed in a way in that they wouldn't be tied down in a relationship. And then there was the whole "waifu" craze that started because of him.

7641018
I think at the start there was a lot of fuss, I mean, from what I recall a lot of this fuss happened before the first movie was even out, in that is crushed a billion head canons. He kind of got a bum wrap from that.

And then in the second and third movie, they kind of just kept him in the background, I dunno, maybe to appease the haters? I don't know, really. But I fully agree with you, I am glad to see him getting a little more character in the latest movie, but I still remember the times where posting a story with Flash Sentry tagged earned a tonne of down votes in times far to quick for anyone to make an informed decision about a story.

I'm just glad to see that that time has passed, and I've seen some people write some amazing things with Flash since then.
