I’m guessing that they in fact are the girls and have just had their minds injected with copies of spikes memories, personality, and sense of self, rather then being separate beings
I think it’s as simple them as them all being the original mane six, but with their minds being flooded with copies of spikes memories, thoughts, and personality. They’re all the same people as before, just was some extra stuff mixed in, and with the spike identity originally being the strongest one
If they waited 4 years for an update, why not me?
