Sequels1

E

It's not easy being the only pony in Ponyville who can hear and speak to animals. Flutteryshy's had to deal with the stares and the whispers all her life and it hasn't gotten any easier. Even her friends, the Elements of Harmony, will never really understand this gift.

But Fluttershy does. You see, she has more friends than anyone else, and she has them all to herself.

I can imagine twilight would be interested in fluttershy's talent just for scientific reasons

I have always wondered myself why Twilight doesn't go to Fluttershy and try to learn at least ONE animal tongue. "Do I look like I speak squirrel?" says Twilight in Hurricane Fluttershy. Well -- if you *DID* then you would both be more useful as Shy could send scout squirrels to you at any time she needed and you would be able to get the message.

7238266 Yup. And over analyze it. :rainbowlaugh:

7238285 Come to think of it, does Twi even speak other languages? :facehoof:

Probably several dead and archaic tongues for research.

I really liked how you presented the idea and the humor of the story. Also Gummy having a cult was the best part. Nothing here that I really disliked!

7241850 Thank you. And remember, cult services are evert Saturday at 3 :rainbowwild:

The cat smirked. “Relax. I don’t eat them. Too stringy.”
Fluttershy crossed her arms. “Opalescence! You’d better be telling me the truth.”1
“Swear to Celestia!”
“Thou shalt not take the goddess’ name in vain.”
“I’m agnostic.”

Good God that had me in stitches. This entire story was wonderful, but that was just absolutely hilarious. Something about that coming from a smug, smirking cat is just funny as hell.

7242837 I'm glad you liked it. I originally considered doing a fic where all the pets could talk. Opal s was one of the funniest personas.

My pleasure. I think it was done very well and the subject matter is an interesting one. Fluttershy talking to animals comes up in so many stories, but not a lot of them spend any time thinking about what that must actually be like for her. It was nice to see that from her perspective for once.

A little bummed she didn't run into Winona somewhere along the line, but that's a trivial complaint. Nice take on a subject I don't think I've ever seen done here before. Novelty is a helluva drug.

7245339 I thought about it, but I wanted to keep the story short and adding more pets would have been excessive. I'm sure some brony has touched on the subject before, but thanks for the kind words.

I liked this story. Fluttershy is able to understand the animals' speech because that's her magical cutie-mark talent, and most of the locals know and accept that as a normal part of Ponyville life, but I imagine they also believe that wild animals haven't much to say.

Most Equestrian animals seem to understand the pony language pretty well, and some (cattle and sheep) can speak it, though they're not the most brilliant conversationalists. A pony might reason that since cattle and sheep are a bit dim, then woodland animals would be more-so, despite the level of reasoning shown by Angel, the fruit bats, and others.

7297805 The master/pet relationship is a clear indication of where ponies see themselves in the natural hierarchy. True they don't mistreat animals, but what separates them from other equine-like species, say the cows or the deer? Is it the ability to build things? To fly? To use magic? Or do ponies simply feel their special talents put them above all others?

You know, I've been pondering on whether or not to do a sequel to this one. The issues you brought up may be one of those I like to explore.

Thanks for the review!

I really liked this story, thanks for writing! Nice to come across some genuinely inspiring ones that are neither trying to be ironic or witty about it.

7543774 Thanks. Glad you liked it. :scootangel:

This was really enjoyable to read because it touched on a subject that got me to appreciate a few things and it made me genuinely laugh. (My favorite being Pinkie considering gummy'gummy's philosophys to be a cult.) So I just want to appreciate what you wrote by saying thank you.:yay:

No. Thank you. Glad you liked my story!

Poor Fluttersshy...having to deal with the whispers and the stares from everypony that knows her:fluttershysad:. They just simply don't understand the gift that she was blessed with ever since she was a foal, not even her own friends...:ajsleepy:. Don't worry Fluttershy, even if they, or even I don't fully understand, you have my full support:raritywink:. You shouldn't care what anypony else thinks about you talking to animals. Just be yourself and do what makes you happy:scootangel:.

Sad, yet great one-shot:twilightsmile:!

Thank you! Glad you liked it.

Sure did:scootangel:! I have to admit though, I am pretty jealous of Flutters...her ability to communicate with animals and understand what they were saying. To some, that may be unatural, but to me, that's the most wonderful gift that anyone, or anypony, can be given:raritywink:.
