interesting , purly interesting, not something i read again mind you but interesting nonetheless.
I'm of mixed feelings. The writing of this seems a little amateur. You need to work on your pacing. And I had an issue with how easily Cadence took the death of the colt she loved most. Twilight seemed more emotional than Cadence. Understandable, since it was her brother, but still... Cadence couldn't cry? Shed a tear? And for Celestia to just come right out and propose something like that on the day of her husband's funeral... Just improper.
It needs work. A decent idea, but it need work.

The one thing that naws at the back of my mind is that people tend to forget age spells. [Introduced in the episode Magic Duel]
Don't get me wrong, ponies can age past their expiration date for a number of reasons, but I must question why couldn't Cadance use the age spell on Shining.

The scene is one Cadance will have to face (Save for the fics where Shining becomes an alicorn himself). I do agree it hasn't been done the right way, but if you trimmed off the last section with Cadance and Celestia talking, it could be redone into a much better fic. I agree with Loyal. Trim it and do it again.
One day I will, or frankly someone else can if they want. The whole fic is an embarrassment to me, it's my only total fail.
